The quality of a $1000 Neumann without the harshness and pricetag. Wow! Still picking my jaw up off the floor! I've been a professional announcer for a long time, and I've never heard anything like the Stellar X2 at this price point. Listen to the audio on my video for yourself. I recorded the entire video with the X2 in the worst possible scenario on purpose - an open room with no acoustic foam, no pop screen, and with my screen door wide open with I-95 less than a mile away. (Yes, I do have a booth, but this thing sounds phenomenal even if you don't).
PROS:
-- Price! Buy 5 of these for one Neumann.
-- Quality. It feels and sounds amazing.
-- Plastic but very well padded carrying case.
-- Comes with a foam cover. Not really a windscreen, but that's cool.
-- None of the harshness I heard with my Neumann.
-- A ton of gain with very low noise. No cloudlifting necessary.
CONS:
-- Needs 48v phantom power, but so do all professional condensers.
-- You won't be styling when peeps visit your studio, because you don't have a name brand. But you just saved $800, so there's that.
-- Some purists will be angry that the highs cut off at around 18kHz, which could result in some lost harmonics that most humans can't really hear. Really only important for musical instruments, and opera.
-- Does need a pop filter - you don't want to get the diaphragm wet with spit. Curiously did not ship with a silica package, but there is a pop filter.
Overall, it's a really good sounding fair-priced microphone. Might switch to this for a while for some burn-in testing and update later. Secretly wondering if Neumann made this themselves and is testing the market...
