I credit Jon for bringing up the criticisms of the book, and Wolfe for answering every one. Good stuff.

In light of the comparison to barking dogs behind a fence, it occurs to me that our many years of lacking influence in politics and culture may have been providential, given the way so much of American church leadership has proven itself either lacking in any vision for applied Christian political thought, or else utterly in error on it, thus avoiding an undesirable historical precedent, while also painting a horrifying picture for what happens when we don't meaningfully influence the political sphere.

Peter Leithart's critique was unfounded and a cheap shot. This discussion was very helpful! Grace and peace to you both!

What a great interview! How Stephen and Jon remain so calm and thoughtful and gentle in the face of the nastiness they get is truly a work of the Lord.

So, I was preparing a two-part message (two Sundays) preaching exegetically from II Thessalonians 2:1, 2 which necessitated looking at Christian Nationalism to understand this passage better, as well as later verses. Just before the first message, I was approached by an elder that mentioned how he was hearing many negative reactions to Dr. Wolfe's book - he did not know his name, only that he must be bad. So, yes, those with evangelical platforms were grinding out criticisms.

That's an interesting take on 2 thes. 2. I never thought about it in that context. Is there anywhere I can watch or listen to the sermons?

Is Mr Wolfe supposed to look like that picture of Tolkien with the pipe? Because thats was the first thing I thought of. Looking forward to hearing this

A bit off topic but in lieu of the photo just curious to find out if he prefers English, Virginia, Aromatics, Burley or Virginia/perique in his pipe. I'll watch to hear his response to Shenvi's review even without the pipe info I guess.

Fear is the foundation of most of the critics. I dismiss any criticism from someone that has not actually read the book, along with the hysterical. We are not honest that dogmatic beliefs prevent rational examination. Seek truth not propoganda.

The idiosyncratic arguments with little broad appeal charge is bogus and emotive. If Wolfe's book had little broad appeal, it wouldn't have cracked the top 100 best-selling books on Amazon.

All you can end up with is a theory of the way you think it should be and you will end up much of what has already been tried. So what is going to be different ? You know it always moves to the left , liberal and then back to the right , conservative , then to the extremes , so what makes extreme civil ? And not become ridiculous or oppressive to one’s affected, How do you have judges that don’t become compromised with bribes or persuasion? There is an answer.

Biggest reason the book was criticized was because of who embraced it and before it was even released. Bad eschatology has been the forerunner to those who hyped it up before its release.

At the end of the day, I believe in Sola Scriptura, and that as Christian's our final authority are the scriptures alone. Tradition has it's place, but it is not the ultimate. Wolfe admits that his arguments are not from scripture but based on Christian tradition. The reality though is that there is a wide spectrum of beliefs on this topic ranging from radical two kingdoms to full blown reconstructionism, then everything else in between. This is to say, there really is no consensus on this subject. If I am going to be convinced something is Biblical and the right thing for Christians to do, then crack open the Bible and start exegeting scripture. If Wolfe wants to write another book where he can demonstrate this is what Christians are commanded to do by God, I will be more than happy to give it a read. The left and secular humanism are no doubt and enemy of all human life. Wokeness specifically is infiltrating much of what calls itself the church. CRT is the hot bandwagon item on the left and it seems like everyone wants to jump on board. However, let's make sure those of us on the opposite end of things are not also looking for a band wagon to jump on. It seems like in some ways, Christian nationalism is just the right's version of CRT (his rebuttal on this point was more dancing around it imo). As Christian's we should only be following something if it is Biblical, not traditional, or whatever else. I think Wolfe's heart may be in the right place, but not sure this is the best solution to the problem.

I mean he said he was assuming reformed interpretation of scripture because he’s not a theologian, so it’s not really pure tradition

It is very rich of Leithart to tell Wolfe that he has a false gospel.

Interesting enough, Jon avoided asking Mr. Wolfe (whose last name is perfect when it comes to Christianity) about "People who weren't born in this country." Mr. Wolfe calls for segregation, for division for the good of "his" country from him. His point of view is unbiblical and leads to hatred against people who were not born in the US, and I don't mean illegal immigration. Everyone who praise Mr. Wolfe make me wonder if they are indeed Christians... Thanks to God for Founders Ministries, and others ministries that are true Christians and reject this false view! Mr Wolfe is a man with an opinion, one that I dont share. You very much look like a man far more concerned about the Forms of holiness rather than the Substance of Jesus and his example. If you'd like to see the Country come to resemble Jesus more, get more concerned about resembling him more yourself, rather than adopting the appearance of a pharisee. By the way, you like to point out your academic bona-fides. Its not about a PhD, its about your relationship to Christ and your willingness to subordinate what you think in your own conceits to what he expects.

@@johntobey1558 yes, I don't agree with those types of "Christians" either. But the reaction should not be then to pull too hard in the other direction. Do we have to be nationalists? Is there someone wrong with just being a faithful, biblical Christian? Wolfe's kinism tendencies are very troubling (even though he constantly dances around these issues). I am all for Bahnsen style theonomy, but that isn't what Wolfe is proposing.
