don't give me wrong I love Stevie and he is a badass but consider Johnny Winters. Who was one of his influences. He never gets credit he is a badass to the complication of a lot of his with like black cat bone period Tin Pan Alley
Such an underrated song of his. Everyone always talking about Texas Flood, Life without you, voodoo child but I don’t see as much appreciation for this song. This right up there with the best
I think it’s the same thing with SRV’s 🎸 instrumentals like Riviera Paradise and Lenny - so beautiful too and yet they don’t seem to have the recognition they deserve either imo!
OOHHH Stevie,,you were so good that words were not necessary for you to sing,,,But! Your talented voice is a joyful added bonus in your music..God`s gift to musical talent was given to you,,that is for sure! Don`t have to watch to know that you gave all you have to your music,,,Thanks for sharing it with the world.. I MISS YOU
WENT to a ZZ Top concert in the early 80's & a Cover Band played...... lol, it was SRV w/ a bass/drum player...... He played the music of any two(2) guitarists & it blew me away !! He was better than the group I paid to see & I miss him dearly....... R.I.P Stevie Ray peace & GB All
So true. I thought I read he actually didn't want to have to sing all the time as he frequently would and wanted some sideman time still even by then. He probably really enjoyed that having some of his supporting regulars join him and sing for him I'd imagine.
everyone knew he was great then....but over thirty years later with all the guitarist that has came since his passing, many good but none better technically and none with the passion. Due to age and going into the military I never saw him live but being from Austin, I was very familiar with him long before he went "national" and was considered a "local boy" here although originally from Dallas. I'm just sad I didn't appreciate the greatness to the extent I should have when he was here and sad he didn't have an opportunity to continue his life and music... still none better....
when you watch not just the notes he picked with precision, but look at his technique. he's hitting the notes like he already played them before@@Mitch1977
There is not a guitarist on this planets surface, past or present. That can play with the passion and soul , Stevie Ray Vaughn took the world by storm, and schooled the best of them with ease, and showed he was a humble man always, giving respect to all. J.S
Hello, there is a lovely very young blues player, he plays like SRV, his name is Toby Lee he is from Britain. Let me hear you in the near future. Enjoy!
Relax, in every genre of music and technology, etc., someone came before--Ford came before Ferrari, just as an example--not that Jimi was a Ford, but you get my drift.
roberta fioretti I agree. But the point is that Ferrari had to learn from ford. Srv learned from the greats... listen to his playing he is heavily inspired by Albert King imo... you can honestly hear a little bit of all the black blues players simply because the genre was created by us. So naturally you pick up the habits and develop your own along the way, so I agree with you that somebody came before everybody but that’s just the point there was a before and that has to be respected.
What about BB King Albert King Freddy King Elmore James Jimmy James James Marshall Hendrix Beano Eric Clapton Peter Green MF ING GARY MOORE! Albert Collins Billy Gibbons Son Seals Hubert Sumlin Johnny Winter and etc Um, I do see your point though, SRV picked a very good song to express himself with here. And he did express himself pretty well
Whether you like his redefinition of the blues or not, you don't know a thing if you can't respect the musical, I would certainly say genius of Stevie Ray Vaughn!
I hear you but remember not many of his songs were his. Like this one is a direct copy not for note. Many forget that but he when alive would remind folks how long it took him to be able to play like his heroes.
In fact when he wanted to play with Albert King and record it his label went crazy and almost booted him. They did not want the public to know his songs were other people's songs. SRV was a very non racist honest man and he got that from his mother who used to dance to Louie Jordon and get spankings for it when she was a child. Just a fun fact....lol
@@suzysrvgirl4ever164 Ok pay attention, I never ever said he did not publish or write this song? Now show me where you misunderstood me ....I will wait
@@suzysrvgirl4ever164 Larry Davis wrote Texas Flood which is the song he got the record deal with and then released in 1983. I just dont know what you're making such a statement about?
I am not sure SRV would agree but he would think your point was correct. I love my birthplace because I was born there but it is a hot racist mess now. I went to Highschool with Dwight Yokam and he had his hillbilly music thing but was not at all much of a hillbilly.....lol He was too cool for that nonsense.
in Jr Highschool he used to call himself a black man. He almost was not joking because he worshiped those artists he talked about. His parents hosted party where the whole neighborhood would show up and dance and play cards. But outside that hood was racist as hell and he hated it with a passion.
THIS MAN BLEW MY MIND WATCHING HIM LIVE IN CONCERT TWICE!!! THANK GOD I WAS BLESSED TO WITNESS HIS OUT OF THIS WORLD GREAT GUITAR PLAYING ALONG WITH HIS SUPER BAND, DOUBLE TROUBLE!!!
I was brought up on the Beatles, in the 60's, But for the guitar, it had to be Hendrix,, But I'm still lauding this guy, S R V, He really is out there with the very best, I listen to him every day, Iv'e never even listened to my wife every day, On the odd day maybe.`But SRV is something else.We miss you man .
This is one of the most powerful and passionate performances I have ever seen from Stevie, even by his standards, this entailed passion. Fuck he was good.
I am convinced Stevie was Possessed by His Guitar with the Blues, He played like a man possessed. The Greatest Texas Bluesman of All Times, RIP Stevie, We miss you Buddy!!!!!
y tf would u do that? if i could do something like that, i would go BACK in fuckin Time and tell him not to fuckin go on that helicopter. no hard feelings RIP SRV
@@MrDavidschloss all great artists should take heed when travelling.. some have died when travelling with cargo overload.. his helicopter pilot didn't have flying experience in foggy or mountainous conditions.. that should have been checked out..before any great artist travels..SAFETY FIRST.. Miss him so much! The Best!!
Damn, that is just a visceral, guttural sound that you can either make or that you can just sit and listen to. I'm more than happy enough to experience the 2nd!
IMO he was one of the top 3 of all time. My personal favorite. This performance, and the entire Capital concert, was one of his greatest total performances IMO. The outrageous chord at 0:36 blows me away every time. Most of the crowd was really ecstatic and appreciative, except for a few in row 1 who were either stunned out of their gourds at what they were hearing, or just plain out of it.
I thought he was one of the best - if not THE best - guitarist in the world. I was stunned when he died! He made playing the guitar look effortless! BTW - I saw keyboardist Reese Wynans play with Joe Bonamassa's band in Buffalo a few months back. HE'S still playin' great!
Before I ever saw his face I felt the connection between his voice and his guitar playing. I have never felt that with any other blues man. I love him.
He plays this version of this song like a gunslinger. He never sounded better. Compare this to the studio album cut and you see what those fortunate enough to have seen Stevie live were shouting off the mountaintops. I saw him in Berkeley, CA around '85 and to this day I've never seen anyone better.
Amazing..a pleasure to watch and listen to this master who is on the highest level of guitar playing and performance while he was here...pray for Stevie..rest in peace great soul
Coming from a Musician, there's All kinds of styles to play But when we Run into a No Nice long Slow Blues in keys of Ab,c especially Bb,it does it to Me everytime!! Srv will always be remembered For not only his Playing but that Soul and passion of him He delivers to Others! David/drummer!
Talented beautiful humble funny Stevie you are the only one who has ever touched my soul and heart with music ❤ rip you beautiful soul you are loved and missed ❤ this song always gives me goosebumps
WELL ITS 2020, & IM STILL LISTENING TO SRV,( R.I.P) TRUE TO DA BLUES" OH!! YES!! INDEED IM STILL TRUE ALL THE WAY!! STEVIE IM STILL LISTENING!! YOUR MUSIC IS STILL GOING STRONG? YEH=?? XX 2020 XX
My brother met Stevie a long time ago and was shocked by how small he was. He said he couldn't have been taller than 5'4". He said at first he thought he was a circus performer and then this buzz went through his spine when he realized who it was. You never expect famous people to be short. Just like Prince who was 5'2". These small guys who were just utter giants in music.
Fallacy. He may have seemed small, but all his documents, including arrests (sure the police got it right) say he was actually 5'9. Tommy was asked and said he was 5'9 and Tommy is reportedly around 6'5 or so. Reese is reported to be 6'7. Chris is a little taller than Stevie.
SRV... ❤️❤️❤️God, he has it all. If someone out there watching this can’t feel it, then you’re not human. I’m totally in it. Edit: shout out to Jimmie and band. Wow. Such sound, such feeling, from so few. Love you guys.

Was this around the time he became ill and stopped drinking? He's the master; sobriety made him even better, and I'm so glad he had those last few happy years. RIP Stevie, your heart plays on.
