High off his ass, fucked up so much that he could barely form a cogent thought, played better than the most proficient sober guitarist alive. Made clear mistakes, doesn't even make a fuck. My god, this is the epitome of music. I've listen to this song hundreds of times and still get watery eyes. Thank you, SRV.

You can't teach anyone how to play like Stevie played, he not only was a technical master, but no one, and I mean NO ONE, played with so much of their entire being as he did. I feel very fortunate to have seen him before his passing, it was in Sacramento, CA at the Cal-Expo fairgrounds, August 19, 1983 Texas Flood Tour, on the race track, he was a last minute replacement at a Sammy Hagar headlined concert with Bryan Adams and opened with Y&T. Adams cancelled like the day before and Stevie and Double Trouble replaced him. No one had a clue what was going to happen. Bill Graham of Bill Graham Presents, came out on stage after a rousing performance by Y&T and announced that Bryan was unable to make it (no reason was given) a collective sigh from largely female, came out. Then he said he wanted to introduce a great blues guitar player from Texas, Stevie Ray Vaughan and his band, Double Trouble. I swear as the earth is round, some people never heard of him, I had, and was excited, excited so much I left my Girlfriend in the stands and went down onto the track right up to the front where he was. What a great show, he played many tunes and least two encores, the concert opened with Testify, So Excited,and Voodoo Chile. Some of the others were; Mary Had a Little Lamb, Texas Flood, Pride and Joy, Love Struck Baby and Dirty Pool. The end of the set was Little Wing / Third Stone from the Sun. He played six or seven more during the encores. I found out later by one of the road crew guys that Sammy told him to play as long as he wanted, the Red Rocker knew how special he was. During the set is saw The entire band of Y&T on stage left watching in awe, and even Sammy and his Bass player Bill Church were back there for most of it. I'll never forget it.

How does one compare? During this period of his short-lived life, he was higher than the Empire State, yet produced some of the most emotionally-inducive, heart-wrenching vocals playing his entire career had yet to offer before. At his WORST, this is the result. Absolutely mind-wrenching, gut-churning emotion as raw, as uncut as they may or could come; my god, to listen to this is as an entire orchestra from source was one man behest. To hell with technical errors... okay, so he was half off his rocker playing high, right? Who, bloody, who could possibly mmick that massive feeling and rhythm? Who could sober? Name the person, I would love to know? Flabbergasted he did any audience who may trapse upon this by chance, because they're in for the largest thrill-ride of their entire life musically.

👑👑🎸🎸 Stevie was simply THE GREATEST!!!!! I make no apologies for this statement. He took not just blues to another level but he brought it to a whole new audience. He did this at a time when individuals like Eddie Van Halen, Randy Roads, and band's like Led Zeppelin,Van Halen, Judas Priest, and others were on top. His passing left such a void in not just the hearts of those who loved him but it denied others the opportunity to see, hear and experience just how good he was!!!! This song and Tin Pan Alley live with Johnny Copeland are maybe the two best live songs he did.

Dude. Tom Hardy? He’s an excellent actor, but I don’t think they should fuck with an SRV “biopic.” I think it would be bad, just like the attempts at doing Hendrix. Maybe if it’s about Stevie’s life in the 70s, when he started overshadowing Jimmy. That could be interesting to explore, but trying to do his life in the 80s would get cheesed up. Though this song would be a perfect outro to any movie about him.

Stevie Is So Beautiful In This Video!❤ But I Heard Him Live Many Times - When He Performed This EVEN BETTER, God Love Him - When He Finally Got CLEAN & SOBER!!!.....As He Was When He Left Us!!🙏 Stevie Worked REALLY Hard For His Sobriety & It Meant Everything To Him! That's WHY He Shared His Story w/His Live Audiences & Encouraged As Many People As He Could To Get Clean & Sober! Stevie Came SO Close, Way TOO Close To Dying From His Drug & Alcohol Abuse In September Of 1986....Then, When He Survived It To Even GET INTO Recovery, He Went Back On The Road A New Man....And When He Said He Was On "Borrowed Time"...He Was NOT Kidding!! And He Didn't Waste A SECOND Of It!!! GOD BLESS YOU, STEVIE RAY!!!!🙏❤💞😘 😘😘

This isn't even anywhere near Stevie Ray's own best solos during performances of this song, and if you seriously think Jimi, Prince, Eddie, etc never went to this level (and far beyond) then you are truly deprived :/

Thanks for the free advice Euphoric Dankey Kang :) I never realised that "songs touch people differently" but this guy just claimed that he has never heard any solo ever by anyone including Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Hazel and Prince which is "such a great guitar solo like this" .. so obviously he has no idea what he's missing out on, or he just has no idea full stop. Either/or, don't have to be so condescending about it.
@andrew3606
@andrew3606 6 лет назад
Well I'm not really sure what classifies a solo as a great solo, but typically how emotional or how much passion is put into the playing is what you'll hear people say. So since this song is about a man that was close to SRV who had died just recently before this show, being played on the guitar that the man build... For all you know the OP went through a similar instance and this song hit a soft spot for him. Either way, you can't assume everybody has the same musical tastes as you.

But am used to people not getting it, also. So...all I got to say is this guy, by birth or experience, just wasn't hooked up the normal way. Nope. And what a rhythm tsunami he had behind him. The way Stevie and Tommy had a laugh at Whipper's drumming at 7:00 is just amazing. They obviously loved playing together so much.

Stevie. The Hendrix of Blues Rock. He adored Jimi as we know. And Jimi, I think is proud of him. I am. And We are. A song that will live for 100 years. Maybe longer. Itt's all we got. It's all we need. SRV Forever.
