After nearly two years on the market, how has the G80 electric ages in the fast-moving #EV market? Is it still one of my favorite EVs ever tested?
Genesis’ First EV Model
The Electrified G80 is Genesis’ first EV model, presenting a new standard for luxury electric sedans. It builds on the heritage of the G80 with its perfect balance of Athletic Elegance, while also offering customers much more value with its electric powertrain.
The Electrified G80 represents the perfect balance of Athletic Elegance, offering a luxurious and sophisticated driving atmosphere.
Based on the NEDC standard, the estimated maximum range per charge is more than 500km. (Based on the Korean EV certification system, the estimated number is 427 km[1]) while 350kW rapid charging enables the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes.
The Electrified G80 is available only as an AWD (All-Wheel Drive). It delivers powerful performance with 272kW and 700Nm torque, by applying motors with 136kW and 350Nm at maximum to the front and rear wheels. This allows for dynamic driving, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph just in 4.9 seconds. (sports mode, result from Genesis R&D Center)
The Disconnector Actuator System (DAS) can also automatically connect or disconnect the motor and drive shaft based on various driving conditions, including vehicle speed and driving mode, enabling seamless switching between 2WD and AWD to reduce unnecessary power loss and increase efficiency.
The Electrified G80 features a 400V/800V multi rapid charging system, allowing customers to use various charging infrastructures. Its driving motor and inverter can boost the level of voltage from 400V to 800V - a more optimized level for the system - for more stable charging. Customers can not only use the 800V rapid charging system without an additional converter, but a 400V charger as well.
The Electrified G80 also provides V2L (Vehicle to Load) feature that enables customers to use electric power of 3.6kW, which is higher than the level used by an average household, making it possible to use electric appliances conveniently outside of the vehicle.
In order to ensure a comfortable driving experience, Genesis equipped the vehicle with ANC-R (Active Noise Control-Road; formerly known as RANC). It reduces the level of noise significantly by measuring and analyzing road noises with four sensors and six microphones inside the vehicle, and by simultaneously creating sounds at the opposite phase. The Preview Electronic Control Suspension (Pre-view ECS), a suspension which can be controlled by information supplied through the front camera and navigation system, also helps to create the optimum driving experience.
The design inherits the G80’s design character - ‘Athletic Elegance’ and ‘Beauty of White Space’ for the exterior and interior, as well we various elements that differentiate high-end EV sedans.
The Genesis signature Crest Grille evolves into an aerodynamic crest featuring an inverted G-Matrix Pattern that emphasizes the Electrified G80's mission for sustainability. The charging door is located in the grille’s upper right corner, and is invisible when closed. Inside the charging door, the Two Lines chrome design has also been applied, highlighting its design identity and consistency.
The Electrified G80 also features various latest technologies that emphasize sustainability. The solar roof integrated into the roofline can generate electricity using sunlight with a solar panel that increases energy efficiency.
The vehicle also features various natural and recycled materials in its interior, including leather that utilizes natural dye in the seats, console and rear seat armrests. In addition, an eco-friendly 'forged wood' garnish for electric vehicles, which is made from recycled pieces of wood from the furniture manufacturing process, as well as environmentally friendly fabric made from recycled PET have also been applied.
Genesis will provide exclusive color options for the Electrified G80, including the Matira Blue (exterior) and the Dark Green Two-tone (interior).
Electrification is one of the key strategies for Genesis as it aims to design and provide new experiences for customers with its luxury EV models. Genesis initiates its electrification with its Electrified G80 model and will continue to drive innovation in this area with additional EV models to come.

I will be leasing a 2024 Genesis Electrified g80 next February (Savile Silver with Vanilla Beige interior) after 15 years of leasing Lexus models. I am looking forward to the Genesis!! Thank you for the great review!

This is the first car where the driving modes are actually very distinct. Sport mode is a BEAST! I showed a friend of mine and now she wants one too. LOL!

Ok, you are becoming one of my favorite reviewers! Here's why... you approach these vehicles from a practical standpoint with an everyday man persona but still automotively competent. So many of the other channels "copy/ paste" their info from one another liking and hating all the same things for the same reasons. It's agonizing! If I hear one more complaint on "piano black" I'm going to drop a piano on someone's head! Nearly every channel that reviewed this car complained about the "trunk space, roof height, rear seat foot space" as if it genuinely affected them, meanwhile they daily a civic! There's a difference between observations versus criticisms and too many other channels just serve as echo chambers to whoever broke the story first. Thank you for your individuality. I hope you do well in this space.

I like the Ford Lightning but the ones I like are out of my price range because I like the Lariats and limited. I think it is at least good Ford has come out and said this, only for the fact it means they aren’t fully out of EVs. If I was the engineers, I look at the tesla and then look at the lightning and decide how to do similar cost cuts. Plus I would tell the software team to create everything from the ground up and be in charge of what electrical products are used.

I’m surprised to see the radar plate centered on the front grill. Don’t recall that in the GV70 electric and it’s presence is one of the few misses Genesis has overall. Pro-regen tip: Set the regeneration level for your highway/freeway exit ramp desired level before turning on cruise because as so as you come off cruise it’s instantly back. I’m constantly padding up and down to meet my needs of the moment but don’t forget the left and right paddle hold-ins and that affect. On the fly regen levels is absolutely the best. My hope is their greatest strength of 800V charging speeds remains. Tesla V4’s Dispenser roll out are tied to old V3 low voltage cabinets. If Tesla later releases 800-1K voltages they’ll not have to tear up the parking lot. Right now they won’t even let the CCS Magic Docs adapter to be deployed to charge at 1/6th the maximum rate. So yeah…a double solute from Elon Hyundai/KIA/Genesis. Build your own or go home is clearly the current unmistakable vibe. 12:21

The radar plate isn't as noticeable in person compared to how the camera picks it up. Yeah I think regen should be disabled once you set cruise control or at least largely dulled upon cruise cancel. Volvo dulls it when cancelled.

How's the seating position front and rear in this? Since the battery was placed underneath, you sit a little higher than the ice G80. Is it really noticeable and somewhat uncomfortable, or noticeable but livable? Would you take the electrified GV70 instead?

The low speed buzzer is completely unnecessary and created by EVphobia. EV car still makes tire noise and that is already enough to catch pedestrians’ attention

Hey they now have two mild hybrids. G90 and gv80. Those add performance though not so much efficiency

Genesis has a big problem, nobody is convinced they are anything more than a Hyundai. It's just not viable long term with that kind of image.

​@@naveenthemachinein the luxury segment it's all about prestige and status. Porsche (Germany) / Lexus (Japan) Both countries are considered high-reputable countries. Korean cars don't have the same reputation. KIA/Hyundai are known as the 10 year warranty lower-class cars. No one wants to be seen in a Korean car.

@@tz7710 these days prestige doesn’t just come from the logo. It also what it offers in terms of design luxury interior state of the art tech features world class comfort superb performance handling smooth ride etc Lexus couldn’t even afford to do any of these.
