Marsh Harbour is at the center of the Abacos for lots of reasons - proximity, provisions, spare parts and your sailing safety net. The Bahama Bank provides beautiful waters for sailing, incredible beaches and wonderful resorts. The devastation of Hurricane Dorian in 2019 changed the face of the Abacos.
Conch salad is also a local delicacy that includes the so-called Bahamian viagra - the pistil of the snail! Yep, a local vender insists it puts led in the pencil.
Travelling to Marsh Harbour and surrounding cays is one way to support their recovery. This paradise of simple pleasures is the gateway to more-traditional tourist activities that you can reach by boat, car or ferry from Marsh Harbour. Sailing a Catalina 42 - and enjoying the lovely Bahamian blue waters and sandy beach cays.

Thanks - I'm telling you, the conch isn't bad - tough if they don't trim off . . . Well, I'm not sure and I don't think I want to dwell on it, much . . . Anyway, if some parts are avoided and the cook chops it into really small chunks, it's like calamari. Still, mixing it with a bunch of mayo and sweet vinegar makes it pretty good (but no delicacy, I'll tell ya) 😊

Thaaaaank you! The opening and closing of this one gives you an idea of what is coming. Solo sailing and getting the drone shots did create a close call . . . for Buzz . . . Conch - it is a type of snail, apparently. Escargot on steroids. Eaten raw, if chopped into small pieces and added to a vinegar-type slaw, it's . . . O.k. . . . Honesty, this salad was pretty good but sometimes the conch is darn tough - like it could use a good pounding

Hey, SV Dansleau - I had what was left of a herniated disc removed from my back at 21. Since then, I've needed to exercise regularly or things start to feel sloppy and I get pinched nerves. Shoulders are also a big problem and without the right weight training they keep me from sleeping. I'll just give you those two - and try to keep from boring you - but I'll also add a gallon of water each day keeps me feeling good. When I get dehydrated, which is easy out in the wind at sea, headaches are a common occurrence and easy to recognize and remedy. Finally, booze - I can only drink a couple here and a couple there or I start feeling crummy, like I've been living on junk food - so I can skip alcohol for weeks . . . I know - drag - sorry about that part; but it all revolves around weight training and bike riding to manage my health and to keep feeling great. I hope you find the right balance to keep you out in the wind and waves my friend.
