Georgetown to Charleston was a great sail last episode - but a sail issue developed that I neglected to identify . . . and it cost me . . . Tough lessons learned and your favorite sailing megayacht may very well be in this one. Beautiful gunkholes and sounds of the ocean coast greet us along the way, while solo sailing a Catalina 42. Dream big - maybe Lady K is just what you need. ( ; )

Hi Dennis. A quick thank you for taking us along. My wife and I retired 3 years ago with the intention of taking our sailboat south, but some positive life change has postpone our adventure (six new grandbabies in 2 years). Thank you again and hope to meet up with you one day! Paul and Gillian.

Six grandkids in exchange for a delayed sailing getaway - I'd take that deal any day, all day, Paul and Gillian. In two episodes, you may be glad you aren't out in the weather. St. Augustine is locking the latches for a big blow on Sunday. Stay warm, dry and cuddly for those kids. 😊

Dennis, don’t feel too bad about your headsail. It happened to me in Cuba: My engine overheated, and I got caught in 50 knot winds. Needless I ended up in the Mangroves, and lets when my headsail decided to partially open. The sound of it flapping around while I’m heeled over in the Mangroves was frightening. I had two small Cuban fishing boats pull me off the mangroves the following and tow me to the nearest port. I had a cutter rig, so I managed to get to my destination: Isla Mujeres, Mexico. I had the leech repaired and I lived to tell the tale. It was a learning curve, similar to your journey :)

Enjoying the videos. For what it is worth, a group of pelicans is actually referred to as a squadron. 😁

Will do! Even if I fall off the boat, it's gotta help someone learn a valuable lesson . . . other than to stay in the kitchen 😅

Well, Jennifer, I could have done without my sail drama - yikes. BUT, my dodged bullet may help some others to be a bit more careful - when storms approach - than I was . . . Dangit. I wasn't prepared 😮 but I was able to rally. May all of your adventures be trouble free. Thank you again and again and again for being part of the journey.

Wow - that's a movie!! You've got A LOT more experience than I guessed from your former notes. I think you need a RU-vid channel, so YOU can help others!

All these giant boats are nice...but impractical. You can go with your c42 almost anywhere. They cant. You have to go from bog port to big port. Cant single hand either.. A tip for the sail.. always tie a large sail tie around the furled sail and sheets which are wrapped. Will save your sail and take a.minute to do. When we leave the boat, overnight or if on shore we always do this. Saves us many times. That mega dock in charleston seems like a big pain. Im surprised.many people dont use the marinas on east side of town. Fair winds.

Thanks lone star. I had a bungee around the furled sail, along with my spinnaker halyard. A bubble in the burrito that is my furled genny cost me - good thing it wasn't worse. On those big tubs, they have retractable keels - good and bad; right you are. Thanks again for your insight and interest.

I'm interested in purchasing a Catalina 42 or 380. Maybe a 36 MkII or 400. Soon. They seem sturdier than the other mass production boats. I'm stowing my bike below deck though.

Hey, John - The Catalina is a great choice based on my experience. Let me know if there is anything specific that interests you about the systems. If you don't need a sleeping berth for distance supplies and tools - as a garage - a bike fits fairly well. In my 42, one side of the seating in the saloon is removable - which would make plenty of space for shorter trips - I keep it for the below-seat storage . . . Pans . . . Finally, I explained in an earlier episode that my system is a bike rack from a Jeep spare tire mount . . . Works great but the salt is taking a toll on my bike. Good luck in all your pursuits.
