Really?! What a great place to be born. Really full of visitors now - 90 percent I was told by a local cubbie . . . Thanks again to the hosts for putting up with us. 😅
You were on Keibler trail which is the old rail line that ran lumber. I lived in a house right next to the entrance of that trail. Protar was the island doctor and that was him homestead. We still have property on donegal bay. You need a better map as that wasn’t “Bonners Lake” as we don’t have a bonners lake. I Believe you were looking at Millers Marsh which is a CMU research area. Glad you made the trip.
@@dennismckee7934 Sorry didn’t mean to be snarky on the map. Next time you visit stop in the community center right near the docks and you can buy a map that is much better. It has many bike trails and shows all the landmarks. WE love the island for exactly why you said “the beaches are empty” there are many islands around us and the views at night are amazing as we have what they call Dark Skies. Safe journey.
Hi! I’m a native and I’ll tell you about the rocky beach in a few months we’ll get another wind from the other direction and it will be a beautiful beach again. Thanks for visiting our Island.
Hey, Trevor - Thanks for hopping aboard. This part of the trip was really a lot of fun. I'm from Michigan - and I had to get used to that salty water and all that lives in it. 😊
Good day Dennis Will there be a follow up video. I understand if there won't be, always looked forward to the motivation igot from yours. BTW the stretching and workout have greatly improved my back pain.
Fair question, Andrew. I am safe and on high ground. I have a few items to juggle before I make more videos - but I'm getting there. Kraken consume so many mariners, it was a good guess 😅
You are a true Crew member, Jenny - I'm juggling a lot right now that I'll clue you in about later. I need to do a catch-up video; then, I want to do a summary video that covers start to finish, with a lot of details for boater/loopers that I didn't cover, originally. By then, I'll have new sailing video to share. Whew . . . Thanks again for encouraging me to keep moving
Hey Dennis! You make it looks so easy. I’ve been in and out of sailing for years and still think there’s so much to learn and try to remember. Did you ever think you just wouldn’t be able to accomplish what you’ve done? 😐 I especially liked your videos of the Chesapeake. That’s my next sailing ground (I think). Then maybe Florida to Biminis, if I dare. Sue
Hey, Sue - There are always small challenges that pass: financial, weather, maintenance, etc. Those pass. Every day, your skills will grow - so that the hindrances will not be you . . . Never will you feel you know all that is necessary - but taking each day as it comes, eating the elephant one bite at a time, makes a long journey more easy to imagine. Finally, get a great companion or take out a boat on your own. Either way, your first step will have been taken - and the first step is the toughest. I hope this helps - if I can do this, you can - trust me on that one. On the job training is typical in all sorts of boating. When you hit the Chesapeake and want a protected and longer-term anchorage, Deltaville Virginia is tough to beat. Good luck and kick a bit of caution to the wind. 😊
One more thing - order a regional sailing book - like Waterway Guide to the Chesapeake Bay - if you haven't already. Places to visit, distances between ports, fuel stops, and watering holes will all be in there. Planning a trip is easier with some of the mystery removed. My favorite app is Predict Wind for betting on conditions - not perfect but a necessity. Let me know if you need more info. The adventure is worth navigating all the uncertainties.
Excellent! Thanks so much. I've been studying the Bay (and Florida) for months now, while traveling around. I have the WWG and have studied things like PredictWind. Very anxious to get started! I should be back in the States by September. I will *not* be on a 42 foot boat though. 😀😋
Hey, random guy from Denmark, that you met at a bar in florida around new years, i see you made it to the bahamas! ^^ glad to see you pop up in my youtube feed!
Yeah, thank you for remembering me - that was in Titusville - and you had a bad breakup story . . . Worst ever, actually. To travel aaaaallll the way to the U.S. to have your heart broken. Wow. Anyway, you were already bouncing back and I imagine you are doing great. Thanks for jumping aboard from Denmark and expanding our Crew. Stay well.
@@dennismckee7934 im definitely bouncing back, going back to college to finish that, started bouldering (indoor climbing), found a nice friend group to keep my smile going and just overall getting back on track ^^
Another great episode! Those waves were pretty big! You were really leaning. I'm sure that's not the right word but I'm not a sailor so ... 😂 And OMG, I hope you used a little Poo Pourri after that long bathroom break! 🤭 It was nice to see our hometown Grand Haven Pier! 🩷🌞 Carry on! ⛵
Yep - GH is on the back of my boat. Those piers are always a nice site - except when the lighthouse is being beaten in winter by 15 footers. And the head . . . It recovered. 😂
Beautifully balanced, zooming at 8kts and below the magical ~23 degree heel - well done and perfect amount of canvass up to get her moving like that and so 'in the groove'. it was awesome to see you get the old gal going and it looked like you had that magical feeling of the boat being pulled forward - brilliant to see and a tribute to your skills!
You give me more credit than I deserve, Luke - but I'll take it. Yes, the grey lady was kickin' it through six footers and only smirked at a few eights. Nice to hear from you and I want you to share your adventures with all of us when you feel like it. Any pictures will be great, Bud. Thanks again for leading the Crew base for the southern hemisphere.
I'm glad you like this journey Andre - I really appreciate you checking in along the way. Seriously, I'm not big time on RU-vid, so comments aren't feeding the algorithm around here 😊 And I'm grateful for the your support.
You are toooo kind. I'm happy to be making plans for more sailing and other adventures ahead - I hope you like what's ahead. Good luck to you, as well.
Thanks for sharing your experiences with us captain. It was a pleasure to watching your videos. I hope second season is even better than this one. See you soon Dennis. Cheers
Wow. That was something! Where’s the Dramamine? Always happy to see a new video Dennis. I have thoroughly enjoyed tagging along on this adventure. Stay safe. 😊🌴🌞
Anchoring beyond the sight of land was bound to catch up with me. I could have just made it to West End in the light that day - but I arrived that way and I didn't want to sweat those shallows again through Indian Passage. Live and learn, eh . . . Thanks again for travelling with me, friends.
Sorry for the late posting, Crew. I got separated from my laptop, which required the kindness of a stranger to resolve, and a well-padded FedEx Box. Thanks again for being part of this journey.🙂
Sorry - I had an issue with my laptop. All is good and I'm shooting for Thursday. Thanks again for closely following the schedule and being part of this epic journey.
DENNIS! This is just so beautiful! Happy to see you're doing so well, Buzz survived and you are making plans to get through the summer hurricane season. Take care, my friend!
CB!! I know you are living the dream - wherever you are! You deserve so much - having done so much for so many. You make the world better, wherever you are. Hugs.
Hey, Elijah and Crew - Elbow Cay is quite the landing spot and I agree that a person could find romance with the place, or in the place, if only to look for it. Thanks again for being part of the journey
Hi there! Fellow Canadian sailing vloggers here. Great video! We're preparing to sail from Lake Ontario, South to the Caribbean this coming summer/fall. Wondering what mic/camera you use for wind noise. When you were walking along the trail the wind was clearly high but your audio was great. Fair winds!
Yes - next episode I anchor . . . And get wind (not the kind I get from cheese), which shows what "can" happen out there. Stay tuned - and thanks for joining me.
Hey, Luke - You would know what a perfect sail looks like. Yes, I am so glad that I was able to capture the moment. Full contact sailing is ahead - the kind that requires standing on one leg on a heeled boat for hours and hours - to reflect the more typical experience. Your Australian summer is coming to an end down there - I hope the seasonal winds freshen to a delightful pace for all you racers. Thanks again - and we will cross our fingers for you being able to find the slopes next year. My very best to you and yours.
Isn't it, Danette . . . Yes, I could not have described the day. I'm so glad you enjoy seeing my sunny sloop sloshing nearly silently over the sea. Downright dreamy. Perhaps this one will become popular with the pot crowd. 😊
Hey, Guy - This was an epic journey for me. You understand the opportunity for growth - which doesn't come for free - but no value can be placed on it. I hope you got something out of this adventure, too. Thanks again for plugging in.
Even though I have made the trip before, watching this video today really sparks that fire to get the boat off the cradle and head south again. So motivating and inspiring for me. Thank you so much Denise for spending the time to make this and all your videos. SV Sandii Derek
Hey, Derek - This part of the trip was optimal. Coming up, my anchor will drag in three-foot seas. Don't rush to renew memories like that. Sailing is a mix - as you know so well - and your methodical approach to getting back cruising makes perfect sense to me. Thank you for your kind words and I hope your experiences are excellent when you get back out there. Good luck.
