LMAO!!! Where to start....ok I lived in Arkansas for 5 years. Where I'm pretty dang sure the State colors are camo surrounded by Razorback Red!! Giggle! Yeah when we had to move back to New Mexico my whole wardrobe was either camo or Razorbacks and I loved it! Great state! God bless the South! Next I've been raising my Autistic grandson who admittedly is high on the spectrum but he also has ADHD and severe social disorder. Now I grew up in the Wild West where you're either Cowboy, Native, Spanish or Chicano and you damn sure better be tough as a Marine or die! True story!! My grandson started 1st grade here and was picked on relentlessly. Being me I told him to just whoop the MF's ass and he'll leave you alone. Yeah I have a potty mouth and Aidan just giggles! So...he did! Long story short he was in trouble cuz you can't do that shit anymore and that's what the hell is wrong with these punk ass kids! JS! Now mind you I taught that boy old school manners like addressing all adults as Miss or Mr. Holding open doors, thank you and etc. and he won Mr. Manners in 1st grade, so I wasn't just raising a punk. Fast forward to 6th grade...The school calls me and tells me Aidan had called or texted a teacher and called her a c**t! Oh I was livid!! Mind you he is now 5'8" tall, 170 lbs and thighs like Earl Campbell! Yeah I'm 60! I ripped him a new asshole never letting him know that boy could crush me...I'm 5'2", Rheumatoid arthritis and a whole barrel of crap that has broke me down but buddy when I'm pissed the very Lieutenant Commander of the Seals better bow to me...js! I ripped him verbally then gave gave him one big old sock in the chest! To say the least behavior is gone!! I also reminded him I don't care how old I get or how big he gets I will always be able to whoop his butt! He believes me...thank God he's one big boy!! There has to be respect and I promise he loves me more than life itself and more important he respects me. BTW that's only the 2nd time I gave him a whack...please don't report me to CPS as his world would crumble. I'm simply old school and I love that boy to pieces but discipline is also love. And because I didn't coddle him...much...he is one Hell of a boy! Lesson learned! God Bless!

I had an “army” shirt I had to throw on one time(the green ones with the black print). A store clerk asked me “where were you stationed?” and it kinda caught me off guard. Then it snapped to me she was referring to my shirt. I was like “oh no I wasn’t in the army, just a shirt I had to throw on” She replied “well isn’t that stolen valor?” I kinda chuckled “well if I claimed to be in the military, maybe. But nope, just a shirt ma’am.” I mean If I’m wrong here correct me. Im from Texas, and I kinda just throw whatever on to go to the store lol.
@308dad8

@brentbarnhart5827
@brentbarnhart5827 10 месяцев назад
You can dress as a f...g general if you want and wear all the medals, and tell everybody that YOU ARE. It is called freedom in the UNited States, AND, you are free to lie. It ONLY becomes stolen valor if you DEFRAUD somebody, pretending to be a military person. "Technically" getting a discount pretending to be would be stolen valor. But NOBODY is going to arrest somebody for that. Getting a govt contract and claiming to be a veteran, and that contract was preferential to vets, OH hELL, that would be big time stolen valor. Stealing from the VA, big time stolen valor. Keep wearing your shirt, I'm sure you look good in it. People are nuts.

I'm astounded by this. I'm English and have lived in the UK all my life (so far!), I've never been in the military. In the 1980s when I was a poor student I went to the "Army surplus" store and buy German army boots as they were hard wearing and good for use on the motorcycle(my cheap transport). For a time I even had a German(or Italian?) army jacket as my main daily coat as it was long lasting and also a reasonable motorcycle jacket although not particularly warm. Back then the boots were just chucked in a bin and you only bought them if you could find a matching pair. They were less than £5 ($6.86 US today). 15 years after, they realised they could charge more for the boots and they were on a display rack in pairs., Moving on some more years (around 12 years back from today), I had a friend who was a retired RAF officer and I went to a market where they were selling desert surplus military camouflage. I bought some Trousers (pants) to wear while doing gardening and DIY jobs. He was amused by how good they were and the same quality and design as ones he had in desert assignments. Army surplus has always been good rough clothing for people who want budget work clothes, I can't see how any of this has changed into a "shaming exercise", Unless people are going around wearing medals and dress uniforms pretending that they are something the are not.

I served 6 years as a Marine Reservist. I was activated and deployed in 2003. In 2010 I enlisted in my state's defense force which augments the National Guard. A few years ago I was at a parade wearing my ASU and an Army recruiter calls me over in front of his captain and accused me of stolen valor and started going off on me with his questions and saying my uniform was wrong because I had a red name plate with my state's name and state buttons, and once again I had to school him. His captain ended up sending him away amd apologizing to me.

I tend to talk about my Army time with old fogies I happen to exist around, and yesterday one guy asked me to recite the Oath I took when I signed up! I was like, I don't remember that! You'd think he might ask, "Show me your DD214"! I did 6 1/2 years in the Army and never went to combat. I don't know why but it was a little frustrating for me. I was good at my MOS, 17B if anyone is interested and I was training future radar operators to do their job! I was pretty good at it and knew shitloads of shortcuts to get on the air and react to unexpected fire missions. I can describe everything about my MOS though I'll say I don't recall some of the instruments that we used on our plotting board. I wore a steel pot, and shaved out of that thing! We heated our C-rats on the exhaust manifold of our generator because it vibrated so perfectly that the can would just sit and rotate for ten mins or so and you had hot Beef, Potatoes, and Gravy, or whatever that one was. I can open a can faster than any machine with a P-38!

I'm at the age where I'm past the age of enlistment to the point where I could have a kid ,when I hit 35, who is almost an adult now. I almost went to renlist at 34 or 35 or 36 and figured no problem with prior service. I went to a National Guard unit that I knew was going to deploy and I probably had at least one MOS they could've used but their recruiter was out and the guy I spoke with either forget to pass message along or they were just too close to all going and freaking out. Was either part of armor or was anti-aircraft unit if I recall. May have been something totally different. Miss some of those days and even most of the miserable stuff wasn't bad. Except when they took back our re-enlistment bonuses after we completed that time. Wasn't mad at anyone in our battalion even but I wanted the scalp of a particular general for a time. Ends up we were over trained but the new slots were lower level but the next years budget depended upon wasting that years excess money by sending several of us to school. I think the year or two before they couldn't afford the fuel for us to train and drive around.

Glad you made this video. Real stolen valor is clearly a problem, but the fact is since the latest fad of exposing valor thieves, the crazies are starting to switch sides. The whack-jobs that actually steal valor with the dress uniforms and ebay medals, and the crazy civilians running around accusing everyone of stolen valor are two sides of the same crazy coin. In both cases, these fools are looking for some unearned purpose. One steals valor, the other pretends to protect valor. One thing I learned a long time ago is to avoid the crazies. Ignore them, get your distance, and move on. There are too many of them and they can't be fixed. The idiot running up on Lumpy wants just as bad to be a military guy as the stolen valor guy. No matter the topic, these type of things always get out of hand. I still have some of my uniforms and I'll wear any damn part I want. I've removed most of the patches as we used to have to have them sewn on professionally on the BDU top, dress jacket, and Field jacket. Mine are woodland camo for hot and cold weather. I don't have a Gortex anymore as I had to turn one in but someone took off with my other one. I admit I was pissed so I grabbed one left hanging. Next day I discover it belonged to one of the younger guys in my section so I somehow returned it or planted it for him. Much better than the time I was showering and someone stole my clothes. Not a big issue but I only had one of those undersized towels and flip flops and had to walk from the latrine/sinks/shower building for men and through our company area trying to wrap that damn towel around my junk and my ass but impossible to do plus my soap and shampoo, etc was in my other hand. Damn thing mostly dropped just as I was entering one of our little tin huts that fit 8 to 12 of us. That time at that training site had several stories that I could tell but most I better not. I will admit that one time we were supposed to clean weapons and we finished. They decided not to accept them back until evening. Probably because they were returning unused Ammo. Anyhow 3 or 4 of us weren't going to stand for not running to town for the liquor/beer/wine store before they closed(next day was Sunday and liquor store closed in those years on Sunday). We innocently secured our weapons, in a car trunk, and headed to town. Good thing there was no issue or they'd have shut the base down and FBI or such would've been called. Too bad AR15s weren't visually identical or identical if the armorer was dumber as could've swapped out but I guess if nothing else the serial numbers would've screwed us or the M203 or the belt fed weapon. If we were crooked we would've just bought or snuck extra ammo and run the area robbing grocery stores and anything else like bars, liquor stores, restaurants and taken out any responding cops(smaller town) but we weren't like that...we were just immature or not thinking E4s who were just thinking of the party for having a good field exercise and there were females in this unit, unlike the combat arms units we had been in back then. I think that "Don't ask, don't tell" was in effect but that's another funny AF story about a fairly openly bisexual guy in the unit who hit on my good buddy who was in last cot, hiding behind a "laundry line" he set up inside so he could sneak one hitters. He got U/A popped a couple weeks later. Anyhow I had tried to convince him to tone his shit down, especially since he was putting our highest ranking NCO on the spot which wasn't cool as he had become a friend...family. After he transferred from armor he needed a bit for us to accept him and respect more than the rank but he was a different generation. His generation smoked a lot of weed and somehow we discovered he did on occasion but my point was my buddy was being a Blue Falcon. Anyhow, our unit bisexual sat next to my buddy and put his hand on my friends leg and told him something to the effect of how he liked him then went back to his cot. My friend was all red and looked like he was having overload especially being so obviously stoned but more than embarrassed and more like high anxiety. My friend was still trying to fathom what had happened or if that had happened and he looked 12 pots of coffee nervous. Suddenly the bi-guy called my friend by name, whistled, told him to bring himself over, and also patted his bed where he wanted my friend to sit. The look on my friends face was half comical and half like he was standing on a mine. My friend burst out in a single "HAAA!!!!" as in a hysterical reaction and then I can't even explain the reaction. Part comical hysteria, part stoned paranoia, part "is this real?" and panic attack, and I could see he wondered if he was going to be a victim of "dick on the face pics" if he fell asleep. Sorry that I carried on so much, just realized that I was initially just trying to respond to a comment but had gone on and on. I'll eventually erase this but I had to get this off my mind. Thanks for the patience. It was a different era.

My father in the late 2000s had a pair of Army BDU pants he got from a Friend who, at the time, was deployed. He would wear would wear them with his black leather boots he had from his job as a security officer. One day he was at the store and a guy approached him accusing him of Stolen valor. This guy yelled at him, and caused a big scene. This scared the hell out of my dad, he completely stopped wearing them, I remember for years after that he would always warn me about wearing military stuff, and stolen valor. Even to this day he does it when I wear a Camo parka or Trousers. God bless his soul.

I am from the south. A lot of guys wore those in high school. Before realtree came along, that is what almost all hunters wore. They were REALLY common, especially several years ago. They sell them online and in every military store in existence. This is crazy.

I had a similar story when Digi camo first came out during Iraq/Afghan war. Buddy who is a Marine brought me back a pair when he was home for a while. Some guy at a store was giving me crap when i had them on once. Until i told him how I got them. Was all good after that. Stolen Valor is bragging you did this and that when you didn't.

They have the new VA ID now that doesn't show all your personal info. Even then though, it only says your name and the branch you were in. The thing is most people who are trying to expose stolen Valor doesn't even know what the hell is real and what isn't...

Funny story, I didn't even check out the local VA until after I'd been out almost 30 years. For the next 10 years after I got in the program, the damn machine that makes out the ID cards was broken every day I went to get one issued. Congressman said he was aware of it. I went to a different VA to get one. Outside of that, my experiences with the VA have been positive. I'm not owed much, but what I am is on time and on target.

@@larryspiller6633 My father in law didn't know about all the benefits of the VA until he seen me going and asked him much it costs, when I said nothing he got all pissed, he was retired paying a lot in co-pays at the AFB doctors. He started going to the VA and been going ever since.

@@Takedownman His experience is similar to what mine was. I had to retire due to a disability and was scrambling to reduce costs before Medicare was available. My services were not all free, however the charges were nominal, as close to free as possible I'd say. Even if one's category isn't so great, the services and prices are here locally. The VA in Chicago is about like a war zone. We avoid that one period.

I once had the opposite problem. I was headed out for an evening of coyote hunting. I was wearing a multicam top and bottom, a baseball hat, and an old pair of Asolo boots. I stopped by a local store to grab a Gatorade, and this nice old lady told me to go ahead of her in line because I was “on duty”. Several people turned to look at me, and I was honestly embarrassed. I made it very clear that what I was wearing wasn’t a uniform, but only PART of a uniform that I used to wear when I was in the 82 Airborne. Hell, since that day I’ve almost been afraid to wear multicam or anything else in public, and I WAS an Airborne Infantryman.
