Good to see you fired up. With Leon so happy I was worried the universe would go out of balance. I do remember The Gong Show, I wish I would have thought of it first. That is some classic meme material for your B&B booting 😂. I hope your Independence Day, is filled with carnivorous delights.

" Donkey 🫏 milk ? " 😅 some soap ingredients are bonkers 😊...that's a huge Gong what a massive blade ,a classic period beauty . ( Ern was a genius, deep hollow grind inventer, as you remarked, Bill ) Great shave 👌 I really don't try forums breeding grounds for trouble and contention ...Great chat , never tried talc on purpose, but I have used a ton as a release agent for sand casting !

@@Martins-Shaves123 Thanks Martin. I have always wondered who goes out to milk the donkeys for their soap. There was a forum I was a regular in when I took up wetshaving. I learned a lot there and made great friends. The end started when gssixgun Glen Mercurio attacked me for not using flat hones. My honing style detractors eventually got me banned for talking about the things I was working on. I later joined B&B thinking that since they tolerated JPO talking about convex hones I ‘might’ve be able to survive there. I was wrong, my tenure was 2 weeks. I totally welcome the angry Badger & Blade Fanboys like DaBOSS to my channel cause I have so much fun sharing with them. 😎 Believe it or not there were a couple of guys contacting RU-vid trying to get me tossed here for honing heresy. Dr. Matt once made a reference to what I think was probably the same sort of BS for showing folks how to “correct geometry”. People can be so petty and childish over the stupidest stuff. I also used talc in an industrial setting. We would buy the stuff sold to billiard shops to help avoid sticky cue sticks, although that is mostly corn starch these days. I figured if the men’s scented talc’s ever become totally unavailable I’d just get some of the industrial stuff.

I was surprised to find that Dovo’s 1.2210 Silver Steel is an alloy with both chromium and vanadium. Good steel though…
@billm.2677
@billm.2677 18 дней назад
@@DevanJackson I never actually looked up the steel recipe for 1.2210, but I think I heard that it has been for years, the only carbon steel for razor blanks coming from the Hugo-Herkenrath forge that is used by all Solingen razor makers in addition to others. Changes in performance come from heat treating and tempering that can be done by individual razor makers. I have a couple of razors from RSF that were done in 52100 steel which I like better.

Slash McCoy was banned from the beatdown thingy, no? That Gong blank (the forging die and the size and recipe of the raw steel heated and forged into that die) is quite possibly the same as the 7/8" round head Bökers & Wackers...whether those steels start from India as flat sheets vs rolled bails, however, I don't know. Maybe they still have a bunch of the old raw steel awaiting a sale and a forging, but that is not the case for the 115crv3 in 5/8 & 6/8. They don't seem to have the curved bias all the 6/8" and 5/8" shouldered Solingens of today exhibit.

@billm.2677 13 дней назад
@@thesuperiorshave I am not sure if Slash got the “right foot of fellowship” from the “The B&B Elitist School of Bevel Setting and Member Beatdowns” or not. One story said that one of his key understudies in the practice of lapping film sharpening got banned for some ridiculous reason and he dropped out. Either way, the place is sure falling into disarray because Joel isn’t making enough $$ and the band of moderatoritas can’t stop dictating how its membership uses their own stuff. 😎 Thanks for the info on The Gong Razor, it was one of those more sizable pieces with a price too good to pass up on. A far better investment in real shaving gear than the China Wonders.

Happy 4th a bit late Bill, hope you had a nice one. Talk powder = baby powder.. good stuff and last forever. I brought a big can when i was competing in archery.. going for my 2nd shave after honing on a "convex" stone after posting this.. finnished flat though, 100 laps on black ark, plus 100 on burnished black ark.. distinct difference in sound and potential in feel.. let's see. The first impression was that's it was at least not worse comp. to my flat hones.. with the caveat that I am not a hone mesister.. Regards J

@billm.2677 17 дней назад
@@seanstapelfeld Not sure, but I thought I heard somewhere that to get into the B&B Honemaster Superior Class you have to have a “Set The Bevel Here” tramp stamp. 🤣
@jpo31
@jpo31 18 дней назад
You have to set that bevel man, and it needs to be on a flat stone, you know. If it is not flat you need step on it and grind it flat, even if you end up with a toothpick, as long as it's flat. LOL. The stone also needs to be checked with a certified straight edge. This is really important when you hone a banana shaped object. Take care Bill:) I still have nightmares after watching someone set a bevel on a Filly in mint condition.

@@jpo31 Hi John, hope you are well. Thanks for watching. Some interesting things I have learned about razor making in the last month or so. 1) Thiers Issard now only uses flat rotating discs at different grits, then a paddle strop. No hand honing at all. 2) I also saw a newer video from Dovo where they still use those crazy crowned abrasive gizmos, but they have evolved to using black tape in the honing process. I wonder when the uppity Honemaster Superior Class will start making videos of their victory dances as interest in this unusual hobby fades off into the sunset. 😎 Classy looking Woolfson blades you have been playing around lately. 🙂 Best regards.

Hey Bill! Great video as always. I agree that one's honing method is a personal decision. It's amazing that some people in the wetshsving are up in arms about honing. I realize there are some people who sincerely want to help and that's all well and good, but to browbeat a shaver by adamantly stating that he should hone the "correct" way is ridiculous. I believe if you get a great shave after you honed your razor regardless of the method, then why should it matter to these naysayers. I think that I should suggest a new shave slogan. It's your razor, hone it your way. Lol! Have a great weekend
