Short report from NIKE #BREAKING2 marathon at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza in Italy, 06 May, 2017. Eliud Kipchoge run in 2:00:25 - fastest marathon time in history. Full report see • Video
"Kipchoge has expressed his love for the marathon, he says that marathon is life, it's a big journey, every time you run one he says you feel a lot of pain but you think a lot of things"
If you are watching this from year 3000 from mars or any other planet colonized by humans in our solar system or any other solar system.....this is the greatest human being to have ran on Earth and you know what is awesome about it......it's that I was alive and watched him run....it was a great time to be alive.
One thing I notice is how relaxed Kipchoge’s arm form is despite such high speeds👌 I feel like his slight lean and back kick contributes to this, which is really efficient.
Knowing here in 2024 that Eliud is facing the twilight of his career, I had to come back here to watch this, when I first fell in love with this magnificent athlete. I remember watching this in real time and nobody, I mean NOBODY thought this was even remotely possible ... except Eliud, who apparently didn't get the memo. Everyone was blown away with this performance except the great man himself. Because of the confidence he gained from this, he smashed the world record in 2018, broke 2:00 in 2019 and won a second Olympic gold medal, to mention but a few triumphs. We'll never see his like again in our lifetime.
Found this video after reading "Endure: Mind, Body, and the Curiously Elastic Limits of Human Performance" by Alex Hutchinson. Kipchoge's demeanor both before, during, and after the race is something I will keep in mind during difficult taks in my life as an inspiration. Beautiful.
Incredible performance and hat's off to all involved, but one has to wonder, if they'd deliberately slowed the pace just a little around the 45min mark, with the sole intention of saving a bit extra in the tank for latter stages, the goal might've been achieved. They were after all ahead of schedule at that point and could potentially aim for a negative split and the sub 2h. Tough call. No doubt it will eventually be achieved as man won't rest till it is.
The Vienna marathon where Kipchoge runs for sub 2hrs is not a competition at all. With 30 pacemakers trained for the sole purpose of commercializing the event did not do any favors for the sport. Kipchoge is an incredible Athelstan. But this.... where every 5miles you will have a pacemaker to run a marathon is un heard of. Run and win at the London Marathon or wait for the Olympics to accredit your sub 2 hrs.
When I was a boy the World Record was 2 hours and 7 minutes by Carlos Lopes of Portugal. I remember thinking "nobody will ever break that time". Well . . . boy was I wrong.
I know that. I'm just amazed that he can run for 2 hours at probably around 80% speed and have such good cardio that his breathing is not effected at all.
High altitude training, everything about the Kenyans and Ethiopians geographical location, diet and culture makes for highly successful runners. Most other runners have to relocate or spend a considerable amount of time away from home. Idk seems the odds are stacked up against the rest of the world.
The part that makes me saddest about this whole experiment is that since it involves so much technology, when someone does break it, they can't just break it, they'll have to shatter it. If they don't break it by quite a bit they'll have all the "the car provided wind resistance" and shit like we have in the comments here.
yea everyones talking about the alphaflys now for ineos lol and everyones saying how he couldn't do it without them and im just like "yea sure okay lol"
he means its exhausting as in tiring, he doesn't mean boring lol, i play video games for hours and i get exhausted but i still play a lot because i enjoy doing so
The two other runners in the white shirts were also there to contend but were not considered actual candidates like Kipchoge. Everyone else was there to pace and provide drag
