I'm surprised to know this wasn't common in the US but here in Asia, it's very common to see people using umbrella on a sunny day. It's to protect us from the sun. When I did that there in the US, people looked at me like I'm crazy lol
Susan seems like the mom in the playdates who always will lend you stuff that you forgot to pack...and have the best advice and ideas, but not in that annoying kind, but the lovely, friendly, and kind way. Love 😘
I stopped wearing make up and jewellery so that I can reapply sunscreen. I figured skincare is worth it. Otherwise there are also compact powders with spf 50 eg from Avene. Still not as good a coverage as sunscreen creams/lotions xx
I love these types of videos that I know I'll come back to for tips when I'm shopping for sun protection! I know I've said it a lot but I would really love if Naturium had an SPF collection, it's a brand I really trust AND can afford. 🙌🏼
I had to smile when you mentioned instilling sun habits into your children. My mother kept my sister and I completely covered on the beach. I keep those same habits today. I am always under the umbrella, rash guards and 2 hats. One for on the beach and a cloth one, bucket hat or something to wear in the water.
Hi Susan, I LOVE your videos, but I would love to see you offer more sunscreens (general products) selection from a diverse range of prices. Only offering "high-end" sunscreen perpetuates this myth that skincare is only for the rich. For many people, $30 is a gas or water bill. Most of those people are those of vulnerable communities made up of people of color (at least here in the US) who are already disadvantaged for health care. There are plenty of wonderful and effective drug store sunscreens (and general skincare) that I think a lot of people have a misconception about or just aren't exposed to by influencers who could start to change this "myth." I hope you could see this post as a way to invite conversation and invoke change, rather than a negative post.
Same here! Just started applying last year and that’s only because I started using tretinoin. I am 26 now. I love la Roche posay as well . The Shaka fluid and hydrating cream is amazing (European versions)
@@laurenwalters51 That is great you started tretinoin, that another thing I only started after turning 30. Ooo sounds like I gotta try those ones from La Roche.
I'm a boy and I use the tinted uv clear! it honestly looks like i'm wearing makeup.. i kinda like the glam look but i'm going to try the regular one so people don't think i'm wearing foundation lol
How about oral sunscreen?? My dermatologist has prescribed me Heliocare Oral tablets twice a day. She says,it protects you for 4 hours. Also, it repairs sun damage
Dr. Dray made a video about oral sunscreen pills and she said they’re not a substitute. And I imagine if they were 100% legit everyone would be taking them, but definitely recommend check out Dr. Dray’s video on oral sunscreen.
@@brandonnguyen3955 I cannot agree more! I believe oral sunscreen is an added advantage along with topical sunscreen. Being a boy It is hardly possible to keep reapplying sunscreen. When I brought this problem to my dermatologist’s office, she said, if you take oral sunscreen you don't need to reapply the topical sunscreen. . Oral sunscreen consists of polypodium leucotomos. It is an antioxidant that has the capability to reduce sun damage & repair sun damage. . Speaking of topical sunscreen. I am using Heliocare 360 water gel SPF 50 and I am very satisfied with this product.
Ah the pa rating is 👎🏻 the only thing that it tells me is that if it has 3 pluses the don’t even bother 🙃 since spf 50+ with pa++++ has a uv-pf of 16+ it doesn’t tell you much because 16 is very low, my current sunscreen has a uv-pf of above 50 🙌🏻 pa rating is just a gimmick, the boots star rating is 🔥 on the other hand
How about ocean/reef safe types of sunscreens? It is crucial on how these ingredients actually harms the environment. Investing in sunscreens is a long term thing, seriously hoping on the price consideration for a 80ml bottle
My new fave sunscreen is the Garnier Ambre Solaire range! One has Niacinmide and HA - and one with just HA. Both have a great lightweight texture and are inexpensive - A great dupe for the La Roche Posay Anthelios!
@@michellekennedy4426 They have a few under the Ambre Solaire brand, just make sure it the facial SPF and has HA or HA and Niacinamide on the inkey list :)
Bless my mom for being obsessive with sunscreen for my fair skin when I was a kid. All the other kids made fun of me but who is laughing now 🥰 I look like 10 years younger than my age 💕
In my family my skin is the fairest, and sometimes in elementary school my classmates made fun of my skin. Now I love that I look like a "ghost"😂 and I use sunscreen or protection because I have light allergy (not the worst, just tiny bumps are on my hands and sometimes on my ankles)
Hey Susan, You’r looking awesome as always. Susan could you please review sheseido white lucent products.I have a dry skin and melasma too so I’m not sure if it’s safe to use for me. The products are very expensive I don’t want to spend so much money if it’s not good for melasma so please it will be really appreciate if you make a video on that. Thank you and love you always:)
You read my mind. I was just thinking of what sunscreen to get next haha i almost out of my cindy crawford ant aging day creme with broad spectrum. I want something with more spf and for full body too haha thank u!!
I have a question I dont have the budget to my sunscreen now (it's pretty expensive in my country) but my friend bought a moisturizer for me which has spf 30 in it would it be enough until summer I only go out 1 day in a week
I love Biorè Brightening milk SPF 50 PA++++. It’s a Japanese brand. It also has other versions like Perfect milk and Face Milk. They also have Watery Essence SPF 50 as well, feels so cosmetically elegant.😇✨♥️
I have always wondered, what if you put on sunscreen in the morning and walk into work before it’s super sunny out, and then when I get off work and go outside, if I haven’t been in the sun for my sunscreen to break down, am I still protected in the afternoon without having reapplied the sunscreen??
@@nonao265 yes both mineral and chemical sunscreens break down on your skin when exposed to sunlight, so even if you are not directly in the sun or outside, uv rays can pass through windows. I think is better to overuse sunscreen to ensure we are protected :)
Do you have any Sun Umbrella recommendations with proven/tested UPF 50+ rating? There's a lot on Amazon, and even bigger brands like Coolibar(?) sell them for an outrageously high price. Is there anything effective between $20~40 price range that is sturdy n good?
Great tips, it's also very important at what time of the day you expose yourself to the sun. For example, you would see very often parents with their kids on the beach at noon and this is the worst time to be under the sun because the UV rays are the strongest around the hours between 11.00 am - 2.00/3.00 pm. In the warmer European countries during the Summer you constantly hear media announcements that if you can you should avoid being outside around noon to reduce the risk of getting heat exhaustion, sun stroke.
whats with all the supergoop promotions im seeing everywhere? the reviews on sephora are trash, and what was the "its a great everyday moisturizer .. but not a great moisturizer .. don't hold me to it" what does that mean ???
How about lips? Anyone has a recommendation of sunscreen for lips? Or just apply the face sunscreen on lips? Fresh lip balm has spf but it melts under hot weather...
I have a question that might be so dumb, but I’ll ask it anyway lol Does sunscreen only protect you from burning or does it keep you from tanning as well? Like if I’m out all day in the sun wearing sunscreen will I still tan in color?
when you wear a broad spectrum sunscreen, it protects from burning, which is associated with UVB rays. it also protects from skin-related aging (think: sagging, wrinkles, dark spots) associated with UVA rays. to help you remember this, you can think of the B in UVB for burning and the A in UVA for aging. people with fair/more pale skin tend to experience redness/burning more than tanning when outdoors for extended periods of time, but you won't tan in color being outside all day as long as you reapply sunscreen every few hours and wear protective clothing (hats, sunglasses, etc). though, reapplying sunscreen should still be the goal regardless! UV rays from the sun cause 80-90% of all skin-related aging so sunscreen is literally your best friend if you want to stay looking youthful for as long as possible (or just age as gracefully as you can).
Great answer @DayRodriguez 🙌🏼 Stephanie if you want to get a nice tanned color on your body I’d recommend using self tanner lotions, there are really good ones in the market now. Sun bathing to get tanned is just not worth it. Healthy youthful skin is what you really want long term.
I would like to know a good elegant mineral sunscreen for the body. I dislike how it rub off on your handbag handle, rub off on the chair or in the car from back of your legs. I find chemical version give me skin pigmentation problems.
For body spf I use Eucerin 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️ If I go to the beach I use a different spray but typically Eucerin for my everyday body. Cerave and then Eucerin. I’m extremely dry so I need all the moisture I can get
My biggest concern about spf sprays is that they all have denatured alcohol in them at a high amount. I worry about the long term effects of drying my skin out for the sake of a convenient spf spray so I try to pat a tinted spf on top of my makeup to reapply. Should I worry about the alcohol in those sprays?
Hi Susan! Can hand sanitizers make my skin more sensitive to sun? My hands have been tanning so easily lately, but the only time I'm under the sun is when I'm waiting for the bus.
I use the la roche posay you have on my neck but I cannot put it on my face because it burns my eyes. That's the one thing about American and even korean chemical sunscreens is that they burn my eyes. The korean and euro (not euro ones sold in America) ones definitely less though
Oof the neogen is so nice but I broke out from it. Pretty sure it was the fragrance (I believe it has lavender in it, which I’ve learned is a big no no for me)
They are supposed to give you 4h protection and help with skin recovery but it’s not a substitute for topical sunscreen. It’s just an add on if you are exposed to the sun for extended periods of time for your job or something like that.
No! You can switch it up every day if you want! It’s something to protect you and works directly. It’s not something like a serum that you have to use a couple weeks to see results
Is re-applying sunscreen necessary for everyone, or just for people who stay outside the whole day? I put my sunscreen before leaving my place, and it takes me only about 20mins to get to work and then stay indoor for 8h straight (with no windows close to me). Do I really need to reapply?
You probably don’t need to reapply if there are no windows near you but I’ve heard other derms say that white light from in door lamps also have a damaging effect on our skin if we have them all day long near us. I recommend you watch some of Dr.Dray videos on this topic to get more clarity if you need.
@@melimevivzla thank you so much for your reply! 🙏🏼 I always wondered if lights and screens are also bad for our skin but not many people really talk about it in depth. I’ll check the videos you suggested.
