Splitsie, instead of turning off the programmable block, assuming you're using Isy's Inventory Manager, just add "Locked", sans quotes to the name of the cargo on the Rock Lobster. You can put stuff in it, but the tag prevents the script from pulling it right back out.
@haydenbarnes1665
@haydenbarnes1665 2 года назад
problem there is that the Lobster is also a conventional mining system, which really ought to be pulled from automatically. And with Splitsie's memory, he would forget to fix that issue. You see the problem?
@UthacalthingTymbrimi

A better way to go in this particular situation: just tag the base connector with "[No IIM]" and all storage, tanks etc. on any grid that docks to it will be ignored by the script.
@Splitsie
@Splitsie 2 года назад
My issue comes down to IIM ignoring a number of the restrictions I've previously put in place (despite me very carefully checking the syntax), so instead of fighting with it I just turn it off :P
@UthacalthingTymbrimi

@@Splitsie I've had exactly the same thing happen. In the end, I actually copy-pasted the [NoIIM] descriptor text from the script code into the connector, and that actually worked, don't ask me why!

That is one of the biggest problems with all games like Space engineers, you can put up a "main base" in a very short amount of time and there is never a reason to make outposts or anything like that, because you can just fit into a large grid small cargo container a full base without issue then just build it. The gameplay loops are so short that it becomes boring unless you artificially limit yourself by saying "I'm just not going to do that". Even with mods that you have, you can overcome most of the issues you built in, in a few hours.
@michawesoy2728
@michawesoy2728 2 года назад
There is a mod, called Industrial Overhaul, that fixes this issue. It extends the loop and makes it way more interesting. Machine to create steel plates. Or separate machine to produce steel tubes. Or thingy that does X. And they are huge. I strongly recommend reading the tutorial before playing :-)

@Evirthewarrior
@Evirthewarrior 2 года назад
@@shahbazfawbush I have done x1 inventories with scarce resources, you just build vehicles that can over come that. It doesn't take that long to set up and you are beyond the hard part. The hardest part becomes finding the resources but a flying miner that can help you build a larger flying miner and you have zero issues after that. Once you scout out the resources, you can even use the flying miners to dig tunnels and have everything underground. With several kilometer long tunnels that go to each resource. Then launch from an underground base that is defended by internal turrets on the off chance the AI decides to attack the small opening you have to launch to space. If you do not impose rules on yourself it is pretty easy to overcome the stupid AI. Even a Europa start is not bad if you have a jetpack, you just fly from the ice, straight up to an asteroid to mine rock then get the resources to start your base from there. Come back then you can find all the stuff you need from scouting. You can even do it with the starter ship if the jetpack is turned off, but it is much harder due to how it controls.

That wouldn't work beacouse sensor can take up anywhere from 3 to 30kW depending on the range, while spotlights take 200W and interior light only 60W. Batteries also have 1W self discharge as long as they are on. 1 fully charged small battery will give you little over 16 hours for 1 sensor at minimum range, 10 days for a spotlight, or 34 days for 1 interior light

Hi Splitsie, excellent episode as always. Illuminating the bridge will not endanger it so much as you think as targetable objects are those that have computer components. Lights does not have them. You just need to place a battery in a covered position (like behind rock) and a wind turbine on an extension (like a couple of blocks below the bridge) to keep the charge and keep the fire away from the bridge main body. The only exposed component will be the turbine as armor blocks and lights do not attract enemy attention and you can put all the lights you want.

Idea for the lamps: merge blocks don't need power, so a small merge block in the rock wall as a socket, then a light on a battery on a merge block, and I guess a control panel will be needed. Now you have a heap of light modules you can put in a truck and then have fun with trying to take down the spent lamps and put in the charged lamps. With the limited space and camera being wonky, it might cause some interesting moments.

Another idea regarding safety: as far as I remember, the targeting works over power consumption. I am not sure how much a sensor consumes but if you attach all the lights of one bridge to a sensor at the beginning and end of the bridge you might be able to turn on and off the lights and thus - next to decreasing the consumption induced targeting - also make it visually less likely to be targeted

A useful Auto LCDs command it inventoryXS cause it shows what you have in the inventory and not things you don't. So a miner you can just put * Ores and you can just see how much of each ore you have mined. The tunnel is already looking super cool can't wait to see it finished. Also you can (if you haven't already) add a line to the name of connectors and it doesn't sort the containers just gens and refineries. I think it is "No IIM" but it has it in the script as to all the names you can add to give connectors a sorting parameter.

I like the thought of sealinglights wich are powered by a smalgridd batery. You could also build a "Bateryexchanger" (smal platform with multiple spots to carry exchangecells and a cranearm to swich the "bulb" ) A topgear style trackrace would be funn, where you let your guests drive the course with a stockkar, while your pro driver "The Pac!" Shows off the course in variouse landvehikles.

For the cargo hauler. Maybe a road train of some sort? As I am sure the many trips back and forth gets old. But the biggest problem is the winding of the road, as such articulation would be needed for something large. It would also allow for enough power and traction to actually carry the heavy loads.

That last overhang of the bridge isn't too low for the rock lobster, but it probably will be for your cargo hauler.

Something that might work for lighting your road, is using the neon tubes on the railings. I believe they are still bright even when they are not powered. They won’t give you actual light but they would show you where the edges of the bridge and roadways are

If you truly want to make your life more fun/difficult you can pipe Steve's Hole in the Wall to your main base. Then you always have supplies at the foot of the mountain and you'll only have to get the magnesium down to Steve's. And if your only going to have lights on the bridge, maybe use solar instead of wind.

One thing you may try for the concrete color, make it similar to the natural rock. It gives a feel that the concrete was made with local materials. Maybe just for the outer and inner edge, and do a bit darker in the center where there would be tire marks.

One idea for your future gas giant visit is to build a solar powered relay station that can park indefinitely (or at least long enough to fulfill its purpose) several kilometers above the planet.
@tdstraitjacket1

Suggestion for you. If you placed solar cells between the covered area on the first bridge, then you could expand the turn around area and build a recharging station for the replaceable tunnel lights. You could also store the vehicle you build to carry and replace the tunnel road lights there.

Ohh! Perhaps some of those crates left at regular intervals (at the turn around?) With oxygen, food and water? Just enough to get you to the bottom of the road..or somewhere where you can survive. I know death doesn't mean so much with infinite clones, but it may still be worth considering, for safety reasons. ;)

This kind of road along the mountain reminds me of Austrian (not Australian) roads, especially the parts where only one side is open and the top , bottom and one side are covered. I often drove a route where these alternated with full tunnels. Very scenic.

In my part of the world (western Canada), the perfect example of this would be the Fraser Canyon tunnels. If you google that, you'll find loads of images and video of 19th to 21st-century engineering solutions to that treacherous stretch of road and rail. And I think you'll be happy living within a 3-block height limit. You would not want to drive tall and tippy cargo vehicles along that road. Also: make use of emissives. They're reasonably analogous to cateye reflectors that would be abundantly used as powerless road warning markers IRL. Maybe you don't even need lights.

Two things, First, when you select a block for placement it seems to add the weight of that block, I have noticed that a few times that even though you might just place 1 single plate, just as the placed block has all the weight, the build image also counts as the fully built block, adding a lot to your "weight" as far as gravity counts. Secondly, one of the wind mills on the manufacturing building at main base is broken and is throwing sparks, the one closes to the hangar office.

Just an idea for the next bridge. Depending on mounting points, you could look into high-powered headlights attached to a hinge attached to a wind turbine on the side of the mountain a little distance away. That way they would have a wide beam of light across them and fewer of them would be needed if you angled them more towards the horizon of the bridge. Just a few thought from my brain

He needs to add parachutes to the Splat for WHEN, not if, WHEN he runs out of power! That way he and the Splat "might" survive the fall. Plus he really should,(but probably won't), upgrade the thrusters. ; )

You might be able to make use of the neon lights blocks to add some light to your bridge. They do produce a lot of light emission, and they seem to be pretty cheap on energy too 😎👍👍 Excellent video as always Splitsie 😎👍👍

On the camera flicker - yeah, a few updates back, they did something that causes the 3rd person camera to act badly when zoomed in as close as possible to a grid. Doesn't even have to be in tight confines like a tunnel, but it's more noticeable there since you have a much tighter area in which you want the camera to be in. Zooming out a step fixes the problem. My best guess is that the camera used the collision bounds to identify when it required a perspective change or forced cockpit view, and now with them that much tighter, it's making it more susceptible to the close-in wonkiness. Either that or something about the jitter that seems to be inherent in grids in general, as if the game can't decide if it's in one spot or another.

Since you have yet to build the hauler i would be tempted to try adding a bridge welding module to the front of it for the big bridge. The challenge of making something like that able to fold away for driving and still fit through your tunnel should easily compensate for the laziness of not handwelding and doing about 20 supply runs

Love the bridge, and yep, I'd call it a bridge, I do think the surface might want to be a bit darker and what about adding white line markings for added visibility during night driving? Perhaps some warning signs before entering the bridge. Drive slow, loose rocks, that sort of thing...? I also think turbines above your safety netting would look quite good, especially if they look nestled into the rock. I honestly thought the Splatform was going to die when she wouldn't stop descending, though my heart stopped, I was getting ready to cry... Loved the episode and the time lapse, I honestly don't think there are enough of the latter, they are so epic. Thanks for a great episode and looking forward to the next one!!

Have an idea for that snowy picnic spot. You should make an hotel/arboretum in that spot. Dig a garage into the side of the mountain for vehicle parking/maintenance and, opposite the road on the snow patch, place a small building with a kitchen, bar and rec area on the main floor and a hotel on the second floor. On the side of that building make a quarter tube style greenhouse with interior picnic area overlooking the valley. It would be a nice truck stop near the end of the journey. I would recommend getting to the mine first though so you have the resources to make it's defenses.

A suggestion for the "hauling vehicle" you mentioned. In addition to HAULING the plates perhaps make it a little bit like an Igor and place some welders for the bridge road surface? Basically a "hauler/paving machine". Also perhaps a larger "central" pillar on the bridge with a turbine to power the lights?

Yeah I think that's a good idea, ideally something that I can easily remove when the welding is done too :)
