I love how much this actually feels like it was just made by a RU-vidr, no film crew, lots of walking back to get the camera, voice overs. It’s great. Way ahead of its time.

It is a great idea to use these opportunities to allow the local Search and Rescue teams to drill with your programs. Most of them don't get that much opportunity to do that. Great job.

Les Stoud is the reason I started hunting, fishing and hiking. Thank you Les.

Les has total control over the editorial content of these shows. He could easily edit out any fails or mistakes to make himself seem like some sort of superstar genius. That he leaves them in makes his show all that much more interesting and educational.

Whenever i run out of firestarter fluid and i "think" i have no way of starting a fire in my little fire pit, i just watch a little survivorman and get inspired to survive in my front yard.

Currently 4:35am here in the wild of breckenridge Texas. There’s no ac in my abandoned trailer house, and temperatures are about 82 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s almost impossible to get a goodnight sleep on this comfortable mattress. It’s a good thing I have les stroud to keep my mind occupied. It’s keeping me from losing my sanity ;)

Watching this I'm pretty sure that if Les Stroud wanted to do something like this in 2020, I wouldn't be watching a documentary from a television network, but a vlog on the "Survivorman" channel.

This has to be the comfiest I've seen les in any of his early episodes.

I always forget how good of a guitarist Les is. You hear the soundtracks... But to see him jam is a fast reminder.

This Guy is the real deal! Not only survived the days by him self, but he also runs his own cameras, and not to mention his own music, My God🤗

My dad took me to the Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee as a boy growing up. He grew up there himself as did his father before him. Taught me not only hunting, fishing, and survival but practically every tree, plant, and animal in those woods. He died at the ripe old age of 91 after a terrible car accident broke his back in 4 places. Les Stroud is my idle and I would love to meet him some day.

This guy can start a fire with anything.

This is by far one of my favorite episodes of Survivorman! I get to look out my window and see the Sierra's every morning, just hoping I can get out there again and take a day or two and just be there. Hopefully this coming spring!

A piece of advice I once heard from a search and rescue dog team handler: If a search dog ever comes upon you, and you are not in fact lost, do not feed the dog anything, simply praise the dog. When the handler catches up tell them that you are not the person they are looking for and you have rewarded the dog only with praise.

I've been a regular camper and hiker in the sierras for over 25 years now. I learned lots of things from this video but i can tell you that you would need to be up in the Sierra at the right time of year to take advantage or be at a disadvantage of many things in this video. Especially the edible plants, water sources, dry tinder, snow or no snow, wildlife threats, rain etc. He is also on the western slopes of the sierra which contains numerous reservoirs and lakes. Most of the creeks and rivers will lead to those areas and to populated areas. In reality the bad things to worry about in the Sierra would be the cold, severe accidental injury, mountain lions, rattlesnakes, bears and serial killers.

That was definitely death camas. You can see the "V" shaped leaves.

I fall asleep to these videos. Helps me relax. Thanks les for all that you did making these.

When setting a dead fall trap put a rock into trap so if it falls while setting you don't lose a finger remove rock when trigger is set. Les stroud is a true survivor, learned so much from this man

I've been eating manzanita and wild leeks from northern California since I was a very small Plant. The manzanita flowers will give way to green berries. Lots of little seeds,when autumn comes around the berries turn brown and sweet,filled with a heavy flour like substance, I call them candy.

Seeing the US Search and Rescue find Les so quickly is one of the few moments I felt pride in my country in YEARS.

Mr. Stroud, you were my primary inspiration when I was young to join the Boy Scouts, and through them I was able to become an experienced backpacker, my favorite expedition being 12 days in the back country of New Mexico. Second favorite being a 6 day canoeing excursion in Minnesota. Being from Alabama and getting to experience different climates, terrains, and long forgotten wilderness that I would never have dreamed of. For that, I thank you.

Echoing another comment, but man, Les was SO ahead of his time. If I didn't know and you told me this was a video from an independent RU-vidr's channel in 2021 I'd totally believe it.

Even when I was 8 years old I knew this guy was the real deal.

Man if Les ever starts another series, I’d love for him to come up into eastern Oregon High Desert country, one of the most beautiful and dangerous places I know, filled with native and homestead ruins, more rattlesnakes than people by a hefty factor, 70 years of (suspected) Satanist attacks on cattle, little food and next to no water. Many pioneers died out there, and many have since. I dunno, I think it’d be cool to see what Les would do to survive in the rimrock country!

I love how with each season, the video technology improves so video quality and cameras get better. Keep forgetting this was before the time of GoPros and cameras with SD cards.

I grew up just outside of Yosemite National Park where this episode was shot. Les was able to visit our boy scout troop and I was able to get his autograph. It felt like such a wonderful token that helped inspire me to get my Eagle Scout!

Holy cow Les, thanks for uploading ALL your content. I have some of the seasons on DVD and regularly pull them out for some late night wind-down entertainment. Long time fan.

I was like Les, when the rescuers found him I was as excited as I am in real situations like this :D

I've lived and grew up in the Seirra Nevada Mountains for over 23 years. People get lost and injured in these mountains every year. A large majority of our rivers here run from east to west, all of which lead into only a few larger rivers before reaching the delta. If you find yourself lost or in unfamiliar territory, find a river at the bottom of the ridge your on and follow it. A fire will also be your saving grace, Signaling, warmth, food and a way to cook and sanitize water to stay hydrated.

I know if I were lost and unprepared, I would be scared to death and feeling like I needed to hurry to find the way out because every second it gets closer to dark is one second closer to staying another night. I'm sure that's what's pushing everyone on in that situation- they're racing nightfall and trying to avoid accepting they're so lost they're truly not getting out as planned. I realize it would be better to as you said- stop and take note of what you have, make a plan- but man it would be so hard to do that. I've only been lost once and it was just in the woods behind my own house- but it was scary as hell. only lasted about an hour and I figured out where I was but- it really surprised me how hard it was not to panic. And I wasn't even in much danger- basically no danger- but when you don't know where you are it's scary- even if you're close to home.

I love watching these videos to release anxiety but sometimes it brings anxiety on unintentionally

Fun fact: guitars come with 6 wire snares that have built in eyelets for easy trap setup with different gauges of wire to catch prey of various sizes.

I can't stress enough how important area research is via the map, topo map, etc. As someone who hikes with my girlfriend regularly, often in hilly or mountainous terrain - researching the area you will be in is a necessity. If you have a compass, think of how important it is to know that the nearest city is NE from where you will be hiking. Or that all the trails you will be on are trending in a SE line up a mountain. Mark where you start, mark safe trend lines you can follow in case of emergency. There are also pocket GPS now that draw lines as you hike and you can follow them back. It's 2020 folks... take ten minutes out of your day to be prepared. Family or loved ones can depend on this. It's funny, because there has been plenty of times we both think we are going the right direction and a quick check of the compass proves wrong. Easy to get turned around as you loop up mountains under tree cover.

I think personally, a few grubs or larva for bait, the center strands of that paracord tied into one long line, and a gorge hook and I'd have been fishing before I tried making deadfalls. Crayfish, frogs, minnows, water snakes, snails... So many options for protein around water. Squirrels would be nice but fishing sometimes is a goldmine when it comes to providing protein.

Bucket traps are so effective. If you have a regular bushcraft/remote camping spot. Have a 5 gallon pale. If you are in need it will catch you mice if they are around.
