Genuinely, they all seem very welcoming and friendly to such a stranger!!! Which is definitely not the picture you get here in the west of such native people often.
On behalf of my fellow Papua New Guineans🇵🇬 I would like to thank you for traveling all this way to one of the many remote places in my country. PNG is home to many different species of plants and animals. Survival in our rainforests is not for the faint hearted. And I'm proud to see that you've done this without any proper equipment/gear and that you're ok. Thank you for sharing your experience with PNG to the world 😇🇵🇬❤️
how is the conservation efforts going in regards to tree kangaroos as well as the plethora of bird species that are enedangered. its an amazing country but always warring with itself and th3e rainforewsts are being slowly degraded
Hard core man, sick for two days and you still carry all the camera gear and survive all while taking malaria pills . You are the original, no one will ever top you my friend you are a legend!
No one can top Les Stroud. The man is a living legend. A teacher, a diplomat to indigenous tribes, and an all around admirable human being. Well done Les, and thank you immensely for humbly sharing your work for us here on RU-vid.
@@johnmichaelgeorge6284 yet you go and read everyone's comments to talk trash. What an amazing minister you are. I'd love to hear your hypocritical bullshit messages
Still adds up to less than a minute of watching if you skip after 5 seconds. 1 minute is better than the 20 mins of ads they showed when this was on TV.
I just want to acknowledge how cool it is that there are people in this world who graciously welcome Les into their village and give him a necklace of nuts! For some reason a free hand made necklace of nuts just really strikes me as the epitome of human kindness, generosity, and love.
12:05 How is Les Stroud eating a cooked banana right now and he's like "not gonna say its good but it'll do" when 40 minutes ago I watched this mans eat a witchetty grub like "😩😩 the flavor is immaculately peanutty, its delicious 😫😫 "
Fuzzy wuzzies saved my great grandfather and many other australians when the japanese invaded them in WW2. Without the local papua's the allies had ZERO chance of repelling the japanese invasion of the pacific. These guys are real deal warriors and masters of their land. Ultimate respect for them.
You really have to admire this guy. No pretense. No exaggeration or at least minimal exaggeration. And he does it alone with no real backup or protection.
The active ingredient of the Betel nut is arecoline, a stimulant alkaloid (among others that are present) that stimulates the release of adrenaline, thus giving the numbing and euphoric sensation, and also gives a similar effect to nicotine due to its structure, hence the buzz feeling. It's crazy to know that an estimated 10% of the world population chews these all the time. Big props to Les for trying this!
I live in Hawaiʻi, where recent migrants from Micronesia chew betel nut in almost this exact same fashion (a lot of people even grow areca palms in their yard). Out of curiousity, I tried it once in my late teens when I was still too young to buy alcohol or tobacco, and it gave me mild lightheadedness in exchange for chewing one of the most bitter substances I’ve ever tasted. That being said, I can only imagine what it would be like to chew it after multiple days on an empty stomach.
I live in Taiwan and betel nut is everywhere here. It's very similar to your first cigarette, a hot rushing feeling with a mild change in consciousness. It's also absolutely disgusting and I have no idea how anyone can get hooked on it. You see guys here cramming 5 or 6 into their mouths at traffic light stops and riding off looking like their chewing a tennis ball. Then of course there is that whole scene surrounding the girls that sell it... :-/
Just amazing. You showed them your courage and whilst you survived they maybe kept an eye on your location and arranged a sing sing in your honour. You earned that respect.
This man is an absolute legend. He changed television forever. I cant begin to comprehend what it takes to do what Les has done in his career. He is cut out of a different cloth.
Not only does Les have the balls to go into these remote locations and legitimately survive on his own unlike some, he got high in the process for good measure. Balls. Of. Steel.
@@Aniki82 Mr. SERIOUS: The problem with comparing normal consciousness drugs to psychedelics. It would be a whole other animal if Les took a psychedelic in the jungles of papua, it would be highly risky. Betel nut is just stimulant. the way it was shot, and by association, I see how one could be reminded of taking psychedelics in a stressful situation as kids.
@@urielmartinez2161 is a fraud who films then goes off to his four star hotel to eat steak and drink high end booze. Hells he has a camera crew, Les doesn't
When they started walking towards him while the other is polishing his machete my heart jumped a bit and I thought to myself *yep, that's about right since this is the last episode*
“Survival, that’s just the beginning, what comes next, Is a step beyond” gave me chills, especially knowing beyond survival is next. I’ve watched these episodes for over a decade now. Seen them all countless times. Wouldn’t doubt I’ve seen some of them 100 times, this show is timeless and rewatchable like no other. Thank you for years of being someone I know I can look up too. Would love to shake your hand one day, just waiting for the time to arise and I’ll take that opportunity. Love ya Les.
Les, you're a tough man, Hewa is the edge of PNG jungle. I totally agree with your confession that PNG jungles is more primitive then most. PNG jungle is unique very hard to survive. Especially with the rain, limited edible vegetation/plants to gater and hunt in a jungle where only marsupials on ground with birds way up on the trees. Les, you just did it!! You have just conquered the jungle of jungles ..Iam a local man and I admit you are just a raw survivor..you make me proud!!. Keep surviving!!...
I’m not sure how old you are Andrew, I’m 28, and Les Stroud started this entire genre of survival shows. Nobody had ever come close to the work he’s done, not even a little bit. Enjoy watching his videos, you’ll never forget being apart of his adventures. He films his survival for people like you and me!
I just imagine some Hewa crew flying into my local airport and saying, "hey we want to put one of our guys on an urban street, no crew, and he has to write a song about his survival for seven days in this environment."
Honestly, that bit where the two guys approached you with machetes in hand was the scariest thing I've ever seen on survivorman. No joke. Animals don't scare me. Nature doesn't scare me. People scare me.
Agreed! Most humans are ok but it only takes one bad one to ruin your day or your life. There are very few animals more dangerous than humans, imo, and none of those in my woods. I've more to fear from man than from a black bear.
Imagine all the snowflakes these days and believe me there’s a bunch of them because I’m in the same age group as them. But imagine them getting sent over there to fight in World War II. We would have lost that war big-time
@@youtubeconnollyfamily Well, I'm Austrian, and there are the same snowflakes here now too. Maybe we should just keep of that war thing altogether ;-) Japanese guys hopefully too.
This was funny to me because Les was struggling and sick and trying to survive and then the 2 native men came strolling up to him like they were just going for a walk thru the neighborhood 😂
First actual living legend I've ever seen is Les Stroud. First actual survival show with techniques & advice that can be applied in the field. Les takes the good with the bad. Rock on !
@@johnmichaelgeorge6284 for someone that is so negative about the videos you seem to comment on everyone single one and watch em all. Thanks for the views now shut up. No one cares.
@@johnlugo8891 So, let me get this straight... You are commenting on my post, which you clearing don't like, to tell me to stop commenting on posts that I don't like. You see this, right? If someone was lying about people you lived with and cared about for so long, you may take the time to comment as well. Pretty telling though, that folks don't care about truth. But hey, it looks cool though, right? And Les made his money off of them, so that's what matters.
@@johnmichaelgeorge6284 hold on wait a minute, you are a missionary and you are going around criticizing others. Ya that's real appealing for the Lord. Spread Love not hate. And mind your business. Cause I can guarantee an attitude like that will turn alot of people off to what you teach. Smh
@@johnmichaelgeorge6284 and your money argument doesn't stand as fact. He's actually distributing it here on you tube. Only money he makes is from his popularity and view count. Which has zero to do with this one video. Infact you are doing the same thing on RU-vid it's just that no one watches you enough for you to make any money. Haters gonna hate. Preachers and missionaries uplift they don't hate. If anything what he did do was bring attention to there existence because before Les I never knew anything about them, or you for that matter. Who knows maybe I was meant to meet you through Les, god does some interesting things sometimes, and instead of sensing love I sense nothing but toxic attitude. Like I said you just turned me off to what you claim to live by. Peace! Done with you
As an Australian , we love & thank the people of PNG or as our soldiers called them in WW2 Fuzzy Wuzzies ,they helped our men immensely in the jungle against the advancing Japanese marching south .
Such an honor to have the Sing,Sing for you because I'm sure they take this very seriously, they know how hard it is living in groups not to mention alone.I picked this episode to watch on purpose because of the location, and I've been watching you off and on for years.
My grandfather Rev Dr Bert Brown was a missionary in PNG from late 1930s till late 1980s.. he use to walk 1000s of kilometres from moru iokea into the high lands spreading the word of God far and wide..
When he pulled out that paper that said instructions on how to survive. I was laughing my ass off. Once again thank you so much for uploading these les🙏🙏
I'm planning a trip to Bougainville AROB /PNG December 2022. Learn alot from this man. Thanks. Loads of water 💦 purification tabs and noodles and imodem 😁👍🏻✌🏻❤️🇬🇧 💛💚
"In the adventure known as life, there are those who live it vicariously and enjoy the ride from the safety of an armchair. And that's good. There are those who have a few chances to realize incredible and life changing experiences, and though they don't repeat them, they carry with them a growth and personal philosophy for the rest of their lives. And there are those for whom a taste is never enough. For whom the lust of adventure is nearly insatiable. And if you add to that the overwhelming desire to create and to share, then you get where I'm at (to a place) where the end of one adventure only signifies the beginning of another." His closing remarks were incredible, and such a great outlook of the journey that we call life
This episode is special, Les. The ending is so wholesome, love it all the way! Enjoy your stuff alot, smart decision uploading ur old content on RU-vid like that and also sharing your personal thoughts @ Director's cut on a few chosen Survivormen. You are not just Survivorman anymore. No, U R a Bushmaster, Hunter, Gatherer, Marksman, Tamer, Engineer and last but not least, Teacher. Thank U w all my heart, appreciate everything you've done Les. Keep it banging, keep it real my G. You are a legend, The king of survivalism mate!! 💕
The whole video was incredible but the ending where they welcomed you into one of their traditions was amazing to see. Thanks for sharing all of these great adventures with us for free, I hope you gain more subs an many more views. You deserve it as well as the production team.
That adventure was thrilling but,at the same time, it brought tears to my eyes! Thanks Les, I could never prevail in an environment like that unless someone helped me! God Bless!
This was always one of my favorite shows on discovery channel. Thanks for putting up the first 3 seasons on here, seasons 2 and 3 aren't on Amazon prime
I watch an episode before bed every night. I grew up watching you with my family every week. Thanks for all these episodes les. Reliving my childhood!! From one Canadian to another 🇨🇦
Definitely the best survivalist on tv ever, he was so in touch with nature and doesn’t have a camera crew so truly alone this guy amazing, also remember watching survivorman on tv when I was growing up.
@@TheAb0mination I'm definitely aware. I watched him from the beginning. I'm a huge fan of his shows and everything he's ever done. I think he'd be a great contender on Alone.
@@Vilkiri Its survival, not a competion about whos the toughest guy. Props to Les leaving those scene in it would makes him looks bad, but a true message about how unforgiving the wilderness can be.
I knew from the first episode i watched of Les Stroud many years ago that he was the real deal and the best of all the survival shows and people on tv. He really does it and it shows from his content.
I’ve seen this episode so many times over the years and when he is going through the survival in a can and finds the piece of paper and says “What’s this? Instructions on how to survive, Excellent.” It makes me chuckle every time.
Les you are a Canadian Legend! Thank you so much for uploading these for our enjoyment. My cousin was a helicopter pilot in PNG and has some wild stories. Beautiful, powerful place.
being a kid and watching these when they came out on cable; the many, many times id sit fixated to the tv, thinking of being there, doing what he was doing and imagining every little thing- this guy is one of the main reasons im as loving of nature as i am. hearing him say "my final, ever, survivorman" made me sit further back in my seat for a good minute.
Okay, not even 15 minutes in - Columbia PFG shirt and Gortex rain jacket, butane lighter, and a Leatherman . . . this is a supremely hilarious episode!
Les Stroud is hands down one of the coolest people on this planet. I grew up watching Survivorman with my father who is sadly no longer with me and i return here often to rewatch these episodes time and again. Thank you Les! For what you have given us all and continue to give.
LES is the GOAT!! hands down, i have watched him since i was young, i am 33 now and he has taught me a lot and really opened my passion for herbalism.. i now, in my life am very educated in the natures world of herbs, trees, and mushrooms.....Thank You For Everything .................... i would love to do a survival video with you bro.......❤❤🔥🔥
I’m from Hawaiʻi, and when I was in college me and my college roommate decided to go to the local Micronesian-owned corner store where they sold the nuts. On an empty stomach, the effects lasted over an hour. I can only imagine what it would be like to do it on the verge of literal starvation.
They don't make you trip, the main active chemicals are all stimulants, not hallucinogens. Similar in strength to a higher dose of nicotine. Just has a higher effect on Les because he has little to no drug tolerance. A pack a day smoker would barely even notice the effects of betel nut. (Other than the numbing qualities) It is a very weak drug overall.
Thank you Les for posting your amazing survival trips with us. You and Mike Roe are pioneers along with Carl Sagan and Jacques Cousteau . The real deal.
Survival in my village jungle is dark, scary and mysterious not really discovered some where upnorth of Papua New Guinea ,after watching this I will appreciate my village and land ,jungle, waters and I will try venture into the wilderness 🙌🙌💃💃💃👏👏🙌🙌🇵🇬❤️
Les: "Oh, what's this? Instructions... on how to survive. Excellent" That line is every bit as funny as when I heard it on it's first US airing. Master of Snark, Les! Btw could you please do a commentary for this one?
