In this video, I compare SVS's new subwoofer offering, the PB-1000 Pro, to the larger and more expensive PB-2000 Pro. Just how does the PB-1000 Pro stack up against its bigger brother? I'll be going over measurements, including compression tests as well as talking about my experiences using both subwoofers and why you may want to chose one of the other depending on a few different factors. If you're on the fence about either of these subwoofers, you definitely don't want to miss this video! Thanks for watching!

I may not have mentioned it in the video, but you can use the phase controls on the subwoofer to align them with each other. You don't need to use a miniDSP. Just wanted to clarify that! Also, I keep mistakenly calling the PB-1000 Pro an entry level subwoofer, which it IS NOT. Old habits just refuse to die sometimes.
@welderfixer
@welderfixer 2 года назад
Well Brad, you're not mistaken. It's just the SVS entry level sub. wink wink. A common entry level sub is the one you find at the recycle center or a buddy gives you because he/she hates it.

@@welderfixer I thought I had a subwoofer, (actually several) before I picked up my first sb2000. Grinned ear to ear when I plugged it in. So many budget entry level "subs" that don't go below 30 or even 40hz. Once you hear below 20hz with authority, it's all over.

@@NakeanWickliff Firstly, congratulations on enjoying your SB2000! Although, I found the SB2000 Pro hitting harder for absolute slam compared to the PB1000 Pro, when it comes to deep bass below 35Hz, it's the PB1000 Pro that seemed to have considerably greater output and control. This was last year August 2021, I had to decide between the PB1000 Pro and the slightly expensive SB2000 Pro. Plan was to start off with one and add one more later for our new small dedicated acoustically treated home theater room having dimensions of 16x12x9 feet, about 1700cuft. Now I am more than happy getting hit 'in the face' by these PB1000 Pro duals!

Hey Brad! So after watching this video I decided to exchange my pb-1000 pro for the pb-2000 pro and you are absolutely right. The low bass extension on the 2000 is no joke. My wife, who is usually never impressed by changes I make to our home theater came out of her office while I was streaming music and said “wow ok now it’s a party!” We live in a house with open floor plan living room, dining room, kitchen that has a 25 foot tall ceiling in the living room. The 1000 pro was “polite” whereas the 2000 pro completely fills the space and makes it feel like a proper movies theater/concert hall. Thanks for the fun, informative videos they are much appreciated.

My use case and budget made me go with dual pb-1000 pro's and in no way do I regret that decision. They're very capable subs and have delivered above my expectations. In the distant future I'll look to upgrade but for now I'm an extremely happy camper with absolutely zero buyers remorse. Very nice video that's well put together, appreciate you taking the time to compare them and share your feedback. Cheers!

Dual PB-1000 subs is far better than one bigger sub. That is if they can be tuned together and works in the room. Unfortunately, my poor boy budget says I can't afford one PB-1000, but hey, my El Cheapo subs work for now.

So I purchased a pair of PB 1,000 pros after watching the introductory video SVS did. Honestly, for $550 to upgrade to a pair of the PB 2,000 pros, I would have done it if I had known it was the difference between getting hit with a baseball as opposed to a bat, I agree, I want to get hit with the bat too! Now from that point to go with a pair of the 4,000 series would cost an additional $1,900 which is substantial, but if I were to spend that, then I would throw caution to the wind and for an additional $1,200 upgrade to a pair of PB 16s. I'm within the 1 year buyback period, but I'm thinking the cost of shipping back to SVS and paying to have the new ones shipped will kill the deal. I will contact them and find out the shipping costs. Bottom line I'm happy with the 1,000s, I watched The Greatest Showman the other day and had the house rocking pretty good. When I do upgrade, I'm thinking some PSA's or JTR's will be the direction I go. Thanks again for a great review.

Hey great video, I'm having a hard time deciding between these two. I'm in a duplex and can't have the bass too loud most of the time. I still want nice clear bass and I want to be able to really fine-tune my bass when I have to listen at a lower volume. I will be placing the sub near field to get the best low volume bass but I would like to know which of these 2 has better and more percise fine-tuning at a lower volume?
@HomeTheaterGamer
@HomeTheaterGamer 2 года назад
Honestly, they both offer the same functionality in terms of tweaking and fine-tuning at a lower volume. The PB-2000 Pro does have more output overall, but if you're keeping the volume low then you may be throwing money away going with the PB-2000 Pro if that's your situation.

My listening area is about 780cubic feet and listening position to the center channel is about 8.5feet. What would you suggest for sub woofer/(s)? I plan to buy the polk es20 and polk es30 for front line (or the magnats 503, 53 - though i lean more to polk). As for the sub i was thinking about: - svs pb-1000pro since it seems that pb2000pro would be an overkill, - 2x sb1000pro. - Magnat Cinema Ultra Sub THX-300.

I've got a pair of PB 1000 Pro's in my living room and I don't have any regrets. They shake the windows, dishes, couch, etc all day long and I find myself turning movies down simply because they're too loud before the subs run out of steam. If I were to upgrade, I would skip the PB 2000 Pro and just go to the PB 3000 as that's a very significant step up over the 1000's where the 2000 is just a little bit (couple dB) better than the 1000's (and not enough to justify the price difference IMO). That’s going to largely depend on room size in addition to what you want to use it for. The SB 2000 Pro does have more power at 550-watts RMS vs the PB 100 Pro’s 325-watts. That alone would make me consider the SB 2000 depending on the size of my room.

Watching rew measurements is a great way of seeing how a subwoofer works comparing different models, however it's not everything. When you compare both rew lines there are very close. They are the same around 95% of the Hz. However when you were describing the feelings, it looks like there were almost night and day. I've seen a subwoofer have better rew measurements, but in a blind test, prefer the worse one (according to rew). How can you measure how explosive a subwoofer is?? That explosiveness (plus high spl) is what is giving you the feeling of slam.

@@Nick-cs9dt pretty simple, money. If your build of materials(bom) cost increases and logistics for shipping stuff increases eventually it will get to the point where it isn't profitable to absorb the increased cost and you need to increase your price. Definitely sucks though.

For my size room my dual SVS PB-1000 pro's sounds amazing. I'm running at -10db and the receiver at -0db after calibration. If I moved to a larger room then upgrading to a bigger sub will make sense.

What’s your room size? Mine is 14ft length x 12ft width x 10ft height. Am in confusion to choose between PB 1000 Pro vs PB 2000 Pro. Somebody says 2000 Pro would be overpower for this dimension room.

The subwoofer from JBL 5.1 SOUNDBAR. they say its 300 watt power But i dont know. Ive this. RMS or PEAK power that 300 watt. I have search every where online. But they only say 300 watt power. You don't place both subs upfront for room response in multi sub configuration place 1 sub in location desired upfront or corner loaded and hopefully absolutely, if possible, place 2nd sub in opposite wall boundary location results will definitely challenge your 1 PB 2000 opinion.
@HomeTheaterGamer
@HomeTheaterGamer 2 года назад
In an ideal room with no limitations regarding placement, you are absolutely correct. Placement of dual subs is crucial to getting the most out of them. However, many rooms either can't accommodate this setup, or someone may be going after how it looks over performance. How many dual subwoofer setups have you seen where both subs are placed in the front corners? Quite a few. It's not ideal, but setup/time aligned properly, it will still provide a better experience than a single subwoofer most of the time.

No sound test
@HomeTheaterGamer
@HomeTheaterGamer 2 года назад
Correct. What would a sound test recorded with a microphone then compressed for RU-vid tell you? Nothing of value. That’s why measurements are the ideal way to compare as they show you visual data that represents each, which are far more useful than a sound test or demo.
@alambe7275
@alambe7275 2 года назад
@@HomeTheaterGamer yes information on paper works for you but that’s not enough for me there are other RU-vid videos they give you actual sound tests between products and you can hear the difference take care
@HomeTheaterGamer
@HomeTheaterGamer 2 года назад
@@alambe7275 thanks for the response. I understand that and it can come down to what someone prefers. Like I said, I don’t typically do them (unless it’s a stipulation for a product review, such as the BENQ monitors I’ve reviews, then I do) but if it’s something that my audience starts to expect then I will take that into consideration because I do try and put my audience first. Just know that I do take your comment to heart and it’s not something I ignore. I am always looking to improve things in my videos. Just for the heck of it, I’d like to throw a counter-point out there: The unfortunate truth to doing any type of sound tests is the sound coloration you get from the recording microphone used as well as whatever playback device the viewer is watching on. That doesn’t include any compressors or limiters used when doing the final audio mix for the video, either, so you can quickly see how it can add up to an experience that isn’t accurate to what the speaker or sub is capable of. Bottom line is: you’re hearing the limitations and capabilities of the microphone more so than the speaker or subwoofer, so I’d always suggest taking those sound demos with a grain of salt.

Trust me I saw it too but I didn’t have time to reshoot so I just moved forward. I’m just a one man show and do everything myself. Sometimes things just can’t be perfect as much as I’d like them to be. This is, after all, a video a did for free that I put on the internet. And… this video is nearly 3 years old. I’ve got my teleprompter dialed in now haha.

if your considering the pb1000pro in a mid sized room (mine is 18x16) dont.... i mean it does ok. will be enough to piss neighbors off in an apartment building but it wont deliver to an enthusiast IMO. when it comes to feeling the bass dude is just wrong. its not a baseball. its more like a wiffle ball. you know the plastic ones with all the holes for children. i know this is their entry sub but compared to the kilpsch subs i was running and everyone talking down on them. i was expecting too much from this. plus IMO the ported subs sound very airy. vs a slotted design u dont get that as much from every sub ive heard at least. at 600 bucks personally id rather buy a used sub of higher quality. and the app is actually overly annoying and keeps defaulting to sub level -10 every time i open it and its a 50/50 chance of even working when i open it. half the time i can adjust volume from -60 to 0 and it does nothing at all. its 2021 and honestly i cant think of a device thats 5 years old that even has support any more in apps. premium audio is something that should stick around for decades. yet svs is relying on temporary tech to control its subs. maunal controls would of been a much better choice.
@HomeTheaterGamer
@HomeTheaterGamer 2 года назад
Every room is different, and this video was based on my personal experience with both subs. I used that baseball reference as an analogy, it’s not a literal statement, because you can imagine the difference in feeling and weight. Again, that’s just my experience in my room. However, there isn’t a difference between a round port and slotted port in terms of sound quality and air output, unless the round port is too small, then you’ll get port chuffing. But they will sound exactly the same. What I can say is that the round ports are totally tubular, while the slotted ports are typically much more flat.
