Tutorial showing a sweep or head outside single single leg take down Or Swing Single, For Beginners. It should be one of the first things you learn in folkstyle and freestyle wrestling and can also be used in BJJ. This step by step breakdown goes over some key points to the shot and how to do the shot correctly. Subscribe for more wrestling technique videos, many more coming soon!
The head inside sweep single leg takedown is a basic leg attack that is one of the most utilized in wrestling from neutral or standing. The sweep is good because your body is on the outside or behind your opponent, making it hard for them to sprawl.
When you shoot a head inside single, you want to use your head to drive the leg up. If you try to pick up, as opposed to driving in, your opponent has a chance to sprawl. You want to make sure you get the leg tight, if not your opponent can kick his leg out.
There are lots of setups you can use, but the setup in this video is a quick head snap. There are also a lot of different finishes that could be utilized, but this finish uses movement to set up a footsweep or trip.
This video is good for people who are new to wrestling and looking for instruction, for people just beginning or learning wrestling, or for anyone who wants to improve their wrestling basics or fundamentals.

I myself am a jiu jitsu white belt with no grappling experience, no wrestling, no judo no nothing. Your videos have helped me get a better understanding of not just takedowns but wrestling as a whole. Thank you sir!

If you can get access to wrestling that should be your primary grappling form. Adding BJJ on top of that will add more variety. The problem BJJ has it does not put any emphasis on control nor does it really focus on stand up because does not offer points for takedowns. In wrestling takedowns can win matches not in BJJ.

The simplest and greatest take down I ever used, and was my go to was the outside sweep single. Almost like an outside ankle pick works every single time. As your opponent is circling, what ever side he is circling toward, when he places his lead foot down, transferring his wait onto that leg you change levels, step deep and to the outside of his planted foot, with your mirror foot about one half of your arms length out to the side of his planted foot. You simultaneous ratchet forward onto your knee, swinging your trail leg behind and around (outside) as you snatch his planted ankle/foot, lifting it out and away from him as you stand back up from your knee facing the same direction he is facing with his leg in your hands, then return him to the mat for 2 points. It really is much simpler if you see it.

I can't give a time table because it is hard for me to find mat time, but I will film an ankle pick video next time I can film.

Get a training buddy and do drill after drill after drill. When you repeat something enough times over a long duration it because natural as your brain and body adjust to it.

If you have good power and speed it can be used against bigger opponents.

If you mean taller yes you have longer arms and generally that means you are going to be weaker so you want a little bit of space; but you can trip shorter people easier because you have longer limbs which gives you better leverage.

Hi!! Right now I'm training for Historical Medieval Battle, but one of the rules is that my knees don't touch the ground while I try to take down the opponent, any tips?

Probably go to like a wrestling class that doesn't have a team, you just pay and they will teach

Ask you college team if they run it as a wrestling club or is it pure team focused. Also try and find clubs in your area.

Can you guys help me out? Gurst year of wresrling, I wrestle with a dominant left lead leg so everyone Gets singles really easy on me. How do I keep my lead leg more protected and harder to shoot on? also I cant do high c's or fireman's cause everyone leads right leg. Is there any attacks I can use besides singles, throw-bys and doubles? Thanks!
