Switched Power Connector On the BMW 1250 RT (Not Easy To Find)

Ever wonder just where the switched power connector is on the new 1250 RT? 1st locate the BMW Switched Power Connector & connect the pigtail adapter (BMW part# 83300413585 ). 2nd how to install it and make it work with the Garmin XT GPS.

I had mounted my Nav VI on my 21Rt but I purchased the harness and then routed it to be powered using the right aux port on the right fairing So with this gem of a reveal I rewired it to this plug !!! I had to take the Nav off when I plugged in the battery tender it also powered the Nov VI back on. This new way is switched with the bike so no problem!

Great tips. Worked a treat on my new (to me) 2022 RT. Installed TomTom to a Wunderlich base plate that sits above the TFT, which looks good and puts the sat nav in your eye line.😊

And one more thing. The TFT software has not been updated. Still has the original version you showed in an earlier video. Also - I put the Wunderlich peg lowering kit on and installed the Airflow mesh seat cover. This is working really well. More leg room and and a cooler seat. Helps reduce fatigue by a lot.

New to the RT and I don’t really bother with Sat nav but I would be annoyed if I depended on it as it continually drops out of connection with my phone. Hey ho. First world problems eh? Thanks for sharing this and your other vids. As your channel says - Nothing to Prove. I like it. 👍👍👏👏👏

Darn. I spliced into the same wire which powers the DIN accessory outlet on the right panel, to power my Zumo XT. I did a clean install but wouldn't have bothered if I'd known about this existing power plug. I did route everything behind the speaker outlets, including the wires for my radar detector. But thanks for showing us, who knows, I might use it for something else!

why not mounting the nav in the speaker housing? I mean it is visible that is bigger than the housing but maybe some nice work to adapt it? All in all thanks for this video nothing more value adding that this type of videos .

Another excellent episode. Your Connected videos helped me get my NAV working with the App. I just switched out my ancient 7S for a iPhone 14Pro. Now I can’t get the App to connect with the TFT. I get Bluetooth and the phone connected. Not the Connected App. I’m heading on a ride up to Alaska and will work on it when I get back. Thanks!

Thanks for posting this with so much helpful information. Ive just installed an XT2 using your video as a guide. Just one question... do you need to add an in-line fuse or is the socket on the bike already protected with a fuse? Thanks again for taking your time to make such excellent videos!

Thank you. The reason that I wanted to use the BMW Switch is because it is already in the bikes electrical system and hence protected, 12V is the max you will ever see out of this connection 👍 take care, Scott

Thanks Scott, this is extremely good info and very helpful. I plan to connect a GoPro on that same side. Is there a similar plug on the other side (right side) that we can use to connect a second phone or camera to, without using the battery tender plug? If not, would you know if that Aux power can be split?

Well, the "battery tender plug" is actually the 12v power supply outlet that is supposed to be used to power anything you want. It's secondary function is that you "can" plug in a battery tender with a "can bus" trickle charger or BMW battery tender. One can splice into the back of that too. The Aux that I show in this video can be split too, I know of several guy that power two devices from it. So there are 2 power sources on the RT, left and right side 👍😁

Scott Do you know the BMW part number for the mirror stem mount for the clutch side pipe clamp? My BMW parts guy said he has never heard of that. I think he’s a little slow. Obviously they make it. The one I ordered from BMW parts online is incorrect it doesn’t have the threaded mirror mount and mine is different on the 2024 model I have the fog/ running lights switch that must have a torx screw to mount through that clamp. I tried this setup on my european 23 RT and the numbers of wires and voltages on the conectors are not the same. 1 is negative and 2 positive. Also the tomtom power dock is not able to charge the navigator. Very extrange I have to say.

I bought a 2024 R1250RT and would like to do the same as you with the garmin. What mount did you use and where did you get it. It looks like the 2024 has the fog light switch where you mounted your GPS mount. Thanks

It's only 12V so, if they are more than that, then no.

Yea you can put it above the TFT, someone made an aftermarket set-up but I've forgotten whom...anyone? I think from the U.K. too. The mirror, no problem, the garmin xt just blocks the left speaker that's it. 👍 Yes that really annoys me when I'm watching a video and they ask to sub and like, I feel like duh, I know how this works, now you've just wasted my time in saying that. You will never hear me say that in my videos. take care, Scott

The 3rd and 4th pictures are the same just the 4th is strapped to the frame and rotated. 😊

Sorry, I don't know. I actually asked my dealership before I made this video and the head mechanic printed off the page for me and that's how I knew where to look for it on my RT. Ask your dealer to see if they'll help you out or just show you on your RS, that's what I'd do. Take care, Scott

I found out the hard way today that this adapter does not exist for the 1250 RT when it has the premium package of NAV and speakers. I’ve heard there is a splitter which is on the right hand side behind the front fairing, but I cannot find any part number or instructions of how to get an auxiliary port to accommodate my Garmin Zumo XT. If anybody has any ideas, please let me know! My particular bike is a 2023 model. Thank you in advance.

My 2023 RT does have this. It is hard to find but it is there tucked right up out of the way. I have the speakers.

I looked everywhere on both sides behind the speakers and under the handlebars even using a flex arm mirror and couldn’t find it… I then took the dealer mechanic at their word that the premium(audio & nav) doesn’t have that plug… I did find a Wunderlich connector for the right side which adds a plug in point…

@@1KachUp I am in the UK. The plug was really hard to find as it was wrapped up and next to other cables, only a few mm of the cap were visible. I will try to take a photo tomorrow but basically, its on the left hand side looking down the forks but there is some sort of cross member I think and it was under there. It was pure chance I found it as I was looking much lower, its not very far down at all.
