Dry-dropper + Superlative Tailwater Trout Stream = FUN! Enough said.
This episode had been lined up for editing since May (!), but I’ve just been so damn busy that its taken this long to get it out the proverbial door. Oh well… tells an enjoyable story just the same I suppose, right?
And hell, hopefully this can serve as a small distraction from the insanity of an impending Henri collision. Stay safe, folks!

Well done fishing and video! I started fly fishing a couple years ago and have fished this section a few times and only taken one fish in 5-6 times on it. I learned a good bit from this and enjoyed watching. Can't wait til it warms up a bit

I’ve been trying to trout fish on the Farmington river but haven’t caught that many yet, do you know any good spots near the Hartford area? If you don’t In that area do you know any good spots on the pequabuck, cause it passes right behind my house but I’ve only caught 1 rainbow trout there. Ps. I love your videos, it’s nice to see someone fishing locally,( I live in ct)

novice fly fisherman here. I heard that dry droppers weren’t very effective in new england. seems that info was incorrect!

Oh yeah, I can say with certainty that that’s plainly false. The principle behind a dry-dropper is universal… it just combines a dry fly with a nymph, giving feeding trout a choice of either rising for that dry or hanging low for the nymph, rather than just leveraging one or the other. So in a place/time where trout can conceivably be caught on dry flies or nymphs, there’s no reason they couldn’t be caught on a dry-dropper. There ARE scenarios where the dry-dropper isn’t the best choice (when there’s no significant prospect for rising trout; in rougher water that drowns the dry fly too easily; when risers are super spooky and the nymph could turn them off; when streamers are the better choice; etc). But just in the general sense of “do they work here?”, there’s no reason they wouldn’t work virtually anywhere in the world where trout are feeding on smaller forage both on the top and subsurface.
