The one time I had a roommate we got into a verbal altercation because her boyfriend was there practically everyday. I told her I was not splitting the expenses with her 50/50 when her man used more electricity and water than the two of us combined because he was there all day while we were at school. Needless to say I moved out because I was not helping to support a bum. Thank God I graduated from nursing school shortly thereafter and could afford to live on my own and have ever since. 🙏🏾

First red flag is the girlfriend isn’t on the lease. The second red flag is the girlfriend not wanting to pay 1/3 in rent. The plaintiff sounds like a liar & she was smiling when she said her girlfriend would help HER pay her 1/2. Like WTF? If you are over 18, you have to pay your part for rent. It’s as simple as that. The plaintiff is so immature for pushing the defendant b/c she didn’t like what she was told. She comes off as a school yard bully.

The situation was doomed from the start. Having a couple move in where one is not on the lease and not paying rent or utilities. They had an agreement that she would pay when she found a job but that was too open ended. There was no real date set for that. She sounded like a moocher. They should definitely have split the utilities three way but I believe also the rent. I don't think you should pay per room but per person. I felt sorry for the defendant. The plaintiff and her girlfriend caused the issues.

I lived with 2 roommates, we split everything 3 ways. This was in the mid 90's and when I think of it now, it was such a good deal. Our rent was $990 a month and included water, sewer, gas and electric. We each paid $350 a month, we each had our own room and bathroom, this covered rent, cable and phone. So apartment included heat and air conditioning and were able to control our own thermostat. It was in a great town in a secured building. Now I see how much rents are and I wish I could rent at that price again. I own a home now and would gladly give up my home if rent was that price again!! Those were the good ole days!! They were excellent and clean roommates and we lived together for 3 years until I got engaged and they became a couple and were planning to buy a house together. They invited me to rent a room in their new house but I moved in with my fiance.

All people living in a place should be paying bills and rent and if you are moving in your mate they should be helping or get your own, you can't live anywhere for free.

I normally agree with this judge. However in this case I don't. You can't live somewhere where someone is beating on you. You need to take yourself and your money to a safe place.

This is exactly why I will never have a roommate again. It was awful. I allowed a work friend to rent the entire downstairs of my home, 2 rooms (used as an office and a spare bedroom) a bathroom, a large gameroom that has a pool table on one half and a living room on the other half, a mini kitchen area, mini fridge, microwave, 4 cabinets for snacks and stuff and a patio with glass French doors and nice patio furniture. I gave her all access to the entire house but that part was for her. I didn't go in her area except to go to the laundry room but that was underneath the staircase so I didn't really go into her area. She paid 500 a month rent and half the lights, water, gas, cable, wifi, and bought her own groceries. It went well for 3 months. Then she started being weird. Very weird. Chamting all night, she made a voodoo doll of my 16 year old daughter, she stole my panties, she had a seance on my patio and caught the swing on fire. It was nuts. I got her out, cleansed my home with anointing oil and rebuked her witchcraft spirits. And I'll never have a roommate ever again!!

The plaintiff may want to purchase a girlfriend but it doesn’t sound like the defendant was into contributing to the purchase price…lol Every adult has to pay their way and pay their share.

This happens in straight and gay communities. Two girls(women) rent an apartment together. Then one woman brings a boyfriend/girlfriend and does not make the new person pay rent or any of the utilities. Happens all the time.

At 8:20 The defendant, after claiming she took a photo of the ransacked apartment, but no longer has the photo, then slipped up and said the police told her to take a photo and send it by email.. before the judge cut her off, but that means she would still have a copy in her emails (if indeed it exists)...

Had a roommate, I allowed to stay with me during the time I was in the military. Told him we'd split the rent if he like to stay and so it was. I took leave for 2 weeks to visit my family out of state, and during this time... my roommate decided to use my bedroom as his personal "fk" room with his girlfriend. How I found out? I came home 1 day earlier and saw my bed, sheets and room looking like a pigs pen and smelling like sex. My roommate was at work when I was home early and I immediately called him and told him he desecrated my personal space thinking I would never find out, I asked him to leave within 2 weeks. Thank goodness, he was able to find his own place within the first week. I could of done this a million ways, but it wasn't worth ruining my career trying to make a point. I invited him to stay with me out of kindness, a prior work buddy from my last command. And this is how he treats the situation and my safe space. Some people have the nerve.

Looks like something that normally occurs. Housemates after seeing the personal things of their housemate, get into a dispute , and then financially don’t pay particular things, then go to court to collect. Can’t claim the 1/3 , because it wasn’t stipulated from the beginning, and she brings it up after already paying the 1/2. If it was actually stipulated, she could only get 1/6 back and not from the plaintiff but the other housemate. These disputes are imminent after being housemates ; because each person wants authority and control. If they are good friend partners, one of them would be willing to let their authority go .

If you are able to, living alone is always best. I had a short stint where I needed a roommate right out of school. I had moved to another state for a job and didn't have enough money yet for payments on a better situation. The roommate was introduced through a mutual friend. It was fine at first. But then she agreed to house-sit two dogs and buy a puppy of her own. This was while she was working two jobs, so she was never home to walk or feed them. I came home from work every day to dog urine and feces and ended up using my lunch breaks to care for them because I couldn't see them neglected. When I confronted her, she said she'd give me half the money she was promised for watching them. Never saw it. She started bringing guys over at night, never washed dishes, left food to go bad in the fridge and I asked her again about the money. I came home from work one day to find her gone with all her stuff and some of my things including multiple kitchen appliances. She ghosted me in every form of contact until I threatened to file a police report. Then she said she'd leave my stuff on the porch, which she did the next day. I contacted the landlord the day after she left and found out she was two months delinquent on her rent (which made no sense because she worked two better paying jobs than I did). Thankfully the landlord worked with me to give me prorated rent until I got another place. To this day I have no idea where she went and frankly don't care. I have done everything possible since then to avoid a roommate. Sometimes it's necessary, but don't put yourself in that situation if you don't have to!

This is what happens when you unilaterally decide you are going to renegotiate a prior agreement. Plaintiff was quite fond of the crappy deal her roomie cut. Why would she want to change it? So roomie decides she isn't going to pay rent etc. and then goes to court. This one was over before it started. The pushing etc. I mean what do you expect? She pushed me therefore she owes me? It doesn't work that way. I hope she learned something, it doesn't seem so.

Quick math thing regardless of if they had agreed to it or not: If defendant paid 1/2 of the rent and felt she should have only paid 1/3, then the difference between the two is 1/6. She should have been countering for having overpaid 1/6 of the rent for 7 months, not 1/3 of it.

I lived with my ex (bf at the time) and another couple in college. BF and I had two bedrooms upstairs, and the couple had one room downstairs. So we split rent three ways but utilities 4 ways. Made sense to us at the time.

I had a college roommate who would fight with her boyfriend all the time. She would scream he is killing me, I stopped Breaking it up because he would be right back the next weekend. I did say something when he started eating my Ice Cream and food.

Only live with strangers. Roommates should be just that. Roommates. Maybe a friendship grows but if it starts as friends it won't end that way.

Having roommates, sucks! Especially for an independent/ introverted person..when I was 19 y.o. I had a roommate, she was very sloppy, and I was a clean freak. She never did her dishes. And we just didn't get along. After living alone for so long, honestly, I don't know if I could even share a home with a partner.

I'm rather baffled that the Judge didn't take away part of that judgment because the plaintiff DID admit to being the proximity cause of the fighting by both not making her girlfriend pay her equal share AND by being the one to attack the defendant AND admitting to putting all the stuff in her room leaving it a mess in a lot of cases, that would remove the defendant from accountability for rent because it was the plaintiff who made the living situation impossible. and even Millian rules that way in a lot of them. I understand the "you agreed until she got a job" but there's also that REASONABLE expectation that it's not going to be for a whole year. which is another thing she often rules on when they do not put a 'time is of the essence' in the agreement.

3 or more females living together = catty fights and constant arguing. Opinion grounded in experience. Lived with 4 females for 18 years as a child. Then as an adult, lived with 2 other females for 3 months and 24 other females who were almost all between the ages of 18-23 while in basic training for 8 1/2 weeks. Every time I had to live with multiple females, more than 1, I found that it was the absolute worst housing experiences of my life. I hid in my room or in my corner a lot. No thanks.

I know in some states/cities roommates are practically a necessity but if it can be avoided, it should be. If you have to get a roommate, get everything down on paper and be very, very specific. Even things you may think are "petty"...get in front of the issue and figure things out before running into any problems. Also, living with friends is very different from just hanging with them frequently. When living with someone you probably will learn things you never realized about them Beware when choosing housemates and if moving in with friends, prepare to lose the friendship if clear boundaries and expectations aren't set from the beginning.

Doesn’t matter how fair or unfair it is and whether you think a SO who is there everyday should pay rent. The agreement is what matters. Clearly the two parties here agreed to split the rent 50/50 (with defendant knowing the gf was going to live with them). You can’t just impose a new agreement to split the rent 1/3 just because you think that’s what’s fair.

What happened was...I was a skateboarder and played music and have always been an artist...since my family neglected to promote that I use my skills in graphic design and intellect to help thier business selling furniture and mutually myself so I would have a real job for the rest of my life...they decided it would be better to have something that people could scourge me with..and since my father had been a Marijuana and beer consumer all his life it was decided to dedicate me to low end theory by forcing me to be a long term under janitor at the business instead of making me a sales person..now it's espoused theres a secret process required for becoming a sales person that even the owner is not aware of...and wasn't when the business was opened...the goverment allegedly controls this and the people have a part in this. So the people had a big problem with my profession as a skateboarder and artist and musician...why..because it was super hard to do. So no one could keep up with me. What they did was blame the fact that I used Marijuana and alcohol and tobacco against the standard saying that it was what was disabling them from pursuing skateboarding..because I had somehow caused symbiotic intoxication in them..making them dizzy and disoriented and unable to balance. Preventing them from competently competing with me and making them feel unsafe when trying to learn to skate. So they made me take mental health drugs that made me sick and fat and deepened my mental disposition against them..when to begin with..I had none. They also had used my girlfriend against me promoting somehow that I had taken some other man's wife...as far as I know there's no prescribed future to or for anyone so that's nonsense. So they went on to fabricate more and more about who I was and who they weren't and they made up enough to support themselves creating a future and one for me too. One One didn't want as well. And from there they fabricated everything. And they still try to promote that I am incompetent and don't know what I'm doing and have this huge ego that's distorting my reality. I dont. I work. Theres no way out of reality with words at all. I have bad credit and reality is massively distorted around me. That affects me! Anyone who wants to blame me for seeing crazy things..is just ignoring that I'm not the source of the crazy stuff. Who is to blame..my parents..my family...a man driving a truck that almost killed me...people playing with my fate and things they don't understand and know about...and people who are greedy impatient and mean. Me..yeah..im mean too..im sick of all this..and I truly have exhausted my living will...id appreciate some resolution but after so much I'm too tired to go on..and people think I mean I'm sleepy..or I've run out of energy...or I'm mentally stalled...no..I almost died..6 broken ribs broken clavicle head injury constricted blood vessel in my brain..the right half of my face ripped off..and years of ptsd following head trauma and more injuries and an altered perception of reality from the accident and my parents divorce and abuse from a step parent.all of which are denied..my mother even denies I was in a pedestrian/vehicle accident and almost died...I literally remember every second of it and her kneeling next to my bed in the hospital crying. I remember every insulting minute of abuse I've endured...and i will always..remember being abused and incarcerated and denied my human value by my parents who think divorce doesn't deny a man his normal existance. It does. Now I've got a little boy..and it'd the same old story..so I can't do anything to better my situation at all. I work and I live with society and it's hunting persecutions of me and the phony awww..of judges like this one. I hate life..I hate people and i hate america and the world. Thats what you get when you let this happen. Argue all you want. Save yourself and account for evey word act and penny. Won't help me do anything but the same. Life is shit. The law is shit. America is shit. The goverment should pony up and offer us clinical lethal injection..id step up first of anyone and take it. You wanna play games with political opinions..ive got one...im not supposed to be here..im not supposed to be your debt...and im not here to lie about anyone's doing..I speak the truth and I the work to keep speaking it. You want to blame some college debt on me...think again..bad credit sucks..but I am bad credit. No one should have to fix it and my near death was a good shot at curing this all but it failed. i dont understand if 3 people are renting out a 2 bed room apartment where 2 of them are going to stay in one room and the other person has one room for themselves, the rent will be split 50/50 right ? while utilities will have a 3 way split.
