It's a different violence now. A different darkside. It's still same crimes but done in a different smarter manner. Got to remember the 80's obviously didn't have the tech of survallence today. So people would just do whatever on the spot. Plus was more one on one physical and personal. Now it's violence done in mass groups/catching off gaurd or weapons. A lot of posers and people just trying to reenact/reinact criminals of the past with advance technology and different appearance.
joseph burtulato I swear dude I have the same exact situation, my mother love this fucking show , I used to hide deep under the covers when I heard this shit from her room, and she had nerve to have the TV loud as fuck lol
Whomever composed this theme is a frigging genius. This is the scariest theme I have ever heard, even after 35 years later, it creeps me out like nothing else. No horror movies, even the 1990 TFDS movie, do not scare me, but this intro ALWAYS does. Some of the episodes are utter masterpieces, so this show is way underrated.
You're experience the moon vibe. The location this was filmed is the source of it. I am fascinated by this road and spent many nights on it, wandering about.
as a child this scared the crap out of me along with tales from the crypt my mom watched this while I was sleeping and I get up hearing that song which got me nightmares.but its a good classic.
It took me a very long time to actually even muster up the courage and energy to watch this intro again. It scared and traumatized the shit out of me as a kid lol. I was very relieved to see I wasn't the only person who ran out of the room or changed the channel when this show came on. There is no other show intro that I've ever seen that can make the hairs on my arms stand up and creep me out the way this intro does. It creeps me out as much today as it did 25 years ago lol.
You worded, to a tee, the exact same effect this intro had (and still has) on me. Within just mere seconds of seeing/hearing it, this has the ability to chill me to the core.
Yep. I remember rushing to the tv to turn the channel before the intro started(this was before remote controls). I remember, I would even sit there and watch the show alone as a child and the show itself rarely scared me. But if I saw and listened to the intro it would creep me the fuck out. I also would turn the channel before the ending credits came on. It still freaks me out...
J: "...of wacky beliefs to be reality, BUT... but not as bright, clearly". Where exactly did the narrator want to go by saying so? What was his creatively human standpoint with regards to that otherworldly intro and melody? Any smart comment coming in? Ty.
@@elianaosorioorozco8482“Man lives in the sunlit world of what he believes to be reality. But, there is, unseen by most, an Underworld, a place that is just as real, but not as brightly lit, a Dark side.”
1:21 Tribune Entertainment identification *not* CBS Studios (for those of us old enough to remember) always did it for me! ...it meant time turn off WGN channel 9.
This show always scared the "SHIT" out of me! I would haul ass to the couch, so my Mom wouldn't shut the lamp light off on me, when I heard that creepy intro starting up. I got chills up my spine every time I watched that show. To this day, I still get freaked out. I ❤ this show!
Yeah I feel chills too when I hear this, I could feel my adrenaline pumping, I used to run to my room when this came on TV. I was about 4 yrs old at the time.
Gotta love Paul Sparer's (narrator) enunciation of "but" and "dark side" and "enjoy the daylight." Really adds malevolence to it. Something I can appreciate while listening at high "Scanners" volume.. -TPC
One time whenever I was a child I was asleep “Tales from the darkside” came on tv and I could hear the theme song in my sleep. I remember hearing it perfectly. After that followed a horrific nightmare. Not sure what it was but it haunted me as a child. Truly terrifying! Took me forever to even watch the show because of it. I own the show on DVD now and so it’s nostalgic every time I hear those words.
I always felt the scariest, creepiest places where those picturesque places like what’s shown in the intro. As a kid, when we’d go cross country camping, the places that were beautiful by day, were down right creepy at night. Many a times, my cousins, brothers, and sisters would all travel in the mobile trailer, and from the comfort of our blankets, would talk about how scary the country side of America was.
The dark emergy on this road is immense, especially at night. I suspect that is why it was chosen to film the intro. A friend and I have discussed our might travels on this road for over 20 years. Linn run, near Ligonier, PA.
@Strato13 Correct. Just energy in general. Yeah, not the bridge, but the other parts. The area is called Linn Run which is near a small town called Ligonier, Pennsylvania.
*_This intro is art, and captures a deeply unsettling and sinister energy._* _With the limited editing tools available at the time, they nailed it…_ _The grass, the bridge at __00:10__ are somehow disturbing._ _- The factory scene at __00:25__ has always been draining to watch. That specific scene, and the way it’s shot captures utter exhaustion and confusion. Almost as if you are dehydrated and overheated; and you cannot find help. Like you’ve been walking in the heat for hours, and your mind is spinning._ _At __*_00:39_* _we’re reminded that we live in our colorful world. Then the frame flips to surprisingly clear and colorful scene._ _At_ *_00:45_* _everything goes dark. Very, very good stuff. The background music sets it all off too._
@@MrSoopSA no signs of people or animals in broad daylight. Plus it make you feel like there is something else there that you can't see something that absolutely sees you.
@@eleazarruoch576 your comment has just freaked me out I'll have to leave the lamp on tonight.. great classic.. takes me back love the 80s..😂😂 mind the Boogeyman..
peter krug That’s just like “The Twilight Zone” there were a number of episodes that weren’t terror in it. Tales from the Darkside to me wasn’t scary but it had A LOT of good episodes.
This is a classic it scared the life out of us as kids 😂 still chilling to hear it again... I'd sleep with the lights on in my room as a child 😂... Paul Sparer has a frightening voice.. great actor.. this whole thing is disturbing and very eerie the trees the farm house the river and the fields... all look really sinister.. but brilliantly done.. it's really haunting..thank God I live in an estate.. I couldn't live in the country with no other houses near me I'd be terrified 😂 imagining things.. like the banshee running down the street screaming.. I forgot my underwear ahhhhhhhhhh 😂😂 love your videos ❤️
Maaaaaan, I remember how creepy this intro & ending credts were growing up! Especially watching it alone in the dark! It still kinda gives me the Willies😨 lol!
In the 90s, SciFi had TFTD re-runs from 11pm to midnight, EST. I rented a high-ranch in a wooded area around a lake. The lower level had double sliding glass doors and the windows were long, almost floor to ceiling - of course, there were no blinds on either. The series itself wasn't scary, but the opening and closing sequence always got me, especially at that place in time.
As a child I would sleep over at a friend's house and his older sister would put this show on to scare us. I remember another friend left for his home in the middle of the night, I touched his pillow and it was completely drenched in sweat. 😂
Love this 80s late night anthology series. Own the complete series DVD collection and still get chills everytime I see the haunting intro and end titles with the classic narration by the late Paul Sparer.
Even after such good competition before and after its time, such as Tales of the Crypt, Twilight Zone, and Night Gallery. I'm sure I've forgotten some others.
Ah, pre-Internet entertainment at its creepiest! As a kid from The Bronx growing up during the 80's and 90's, this was hands down #1A on all time scariest TV openings. #1B? Why, Tales from The Crypt, of course! I put them in that order because Darkside used to air on WPIX Ch. 11 in NYC back then. So I could always tune in, where as Crypt came along just as my neighborhood got cable service. My family was able to afford cable service, a luxury younger generations laugh at now. But I was privileged to have watched both series during their original runs! 🌎🇵🇷😎
Such a horrifying intro and outro as a kid and that little CBS ending at the end made me feel much more relieved and when it went to something else normal like the news I felt relieved!
👑😍📺😍👑 Omg Saturday nights WASN'T Saturday night to me & my cousin Mia without watching this & Monsters. This intro 🎶🎼 & it's pictures ALWAYS COMFORTED ME AS A KID. I 💘 it & STILL DO. Seeing the FARM🚜, THE WOODS🌳🌿, THE GREEN GRASS 🌱 & THE RIVER 🌅 WAS SOOTHING TO ME. I ALWAYS WONDERED where was that 🚗 going we could see driving RIGHT before TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE appeared 💭😕💭 💞📺💞
"Man lives in the sunlit world of what he believes to be reality. But... there is, unseen by most, an underworld, a place that is just as real, but not as brightly lit... a Darkside." "The Darkside is always there waiting for us to enter; waiting to enter us. Until next time, try to enjoy the daylight."
The actual episodes aren't even scary! Only a little tiny bit scary, it's just the intro and closing themes that are VERY scary. Imagine if you heard this on TV when you are only 5 years old all alone in the house!
I still remember watching reruns of this with my Mom in the early 2000s as a kid (she watched it in the 80s-90s as a teen/young adult) i'm nearly 21 now and still love this show. Great memories👍
would love to see this out on a blu-ray disc box set & to buy it at Barnes & Nobles.i miss this series big time, o my goodness do I ever. This series rocks
My own personal top 10 favorite Darkside episodes: 1.Word Processor Of The Gods 2.The Impressionist 3.Ring Around The Redhead 4.Monsters In My Room 5.Comet Watch 6.Strange Love 7.Black Widows 8.Let The Games Begin 9.Sorry, Right Number 10.Family Reunion
I didn’t grow up in the 80’s but I do remember this show from when I was younger. I was really disturbed by the intro. Just something about the music is just really creepy.
Man lives in a sunlit world of what he believes to be reality. But there is unseen by most, an underworld. A place that is just as real, but not as brightly lit. A DarkSide!
I remember getting up at about 6am at around about 7 (years old), putting the telly on and seeing what there was to watch. Being brainless apparently I saw this and thought, "that doesnt sound scarring at all"... i couldnt even get past the intro 😁
I am happy to be a part of the team. That grew up with this show. Love the intro and the ending. Try to enjoy the day light. Good scary fun. Take me back to the good old days.
It didn't help that this show came on WPIX 11 on weekends very late on Saturday nights. Usually like 1130P or 12A. I remember waking up hearing it play as my Mom watched it in the living room. Let's just say I wouldn't move out of bed until daylight came the next day.
well the complete series is on DVD along with Friday the 13th the series and Monsters(which is actually Tales from the Darkside season 5-7 they changed the show title as they found advertisers were more willing to buy Ad time on a new show then one in it's fifth season) I just got my copy for 20 bucks all four seasons on twelve discs
Man lives in the sunlit world of what he believes to be reality, But, there is, unseen by most, an underworld, a place that is just as real, but not as brightly lit .... a darkside. The darkside is always there, waiting for us to enter, waiting to enter us. Until next time, try to enjoy the daylight.
I remember watching this very video late one night in my living room while everyone else was out. The lights were off and I was appreciating just how eerie the theme is, until our damned old ass tv cracked, and scared the life out of me. I didn't realize they did that until recently, so I just got the hell out of that room lol.
