After 3 years with this lens, i can say it is the best wide lens for photo/video on gimbal. Perfect for the Sony a7c. I have also their 70-300 which is incredibly lightweight and very good as well. Now they have 50-300 that probably i would take to get standard zoom at 50. The 50-400 is maybe even better but double the weight. I think 17-28 and 50-300 covers a lot of things. Especially in video where you really have 17-42 and 50-450.

I took my 17-28 and a7iii deep sea fishing yesterday, and I got unexpectedly nailed by a rouge wave and of course I was soaked along with my gear. Happy to report that all is good, no issues!

You have definitely convinced me for the tamron 17-28mm. I was unsure between this one and the Samyang 18mm f2.8 for half of the price, weight and size. But you did a great explanation for several uses with the zoom ranges. Thanks 👍🏻 and you’ve got another subscriber 👌

Hi Lee! 1) Have you used any ND filter for cinematic feeling in the clip, if so which one? How did you reached the effect? 2) Look at the girl at 2:10 What have you done to make her skin look soooo smooth, have you applied any effect afterwards, if so which one???? Thanks!! /Dennis

Alexa B if you are starting out with no experience at all. Getting something like a dslr is a good idea to learn the controls. But there is a major shift in photography now and I would recommend something like the new Sony a6100 Or even cheaper a used a6300.

I consider to buy this and the 28-75 when (or if) I upgrade to full frame next year. It is an advantage with 16-35 and 24-70, they overlap. With the two Tamron I must switch lens much more often.

the disadvantage of the 16-35 and 24-70: with the extra money you're spending you could probably buy 5 or 6 hundred big macs

@@timxu6631 Sure, but for landscape photography we can buy the f/4 versions. We never use 2.8 anyway. f/11 is our favorite aperture.

Good review Lee. This is a great company for several reasons. This lens is one of those examples. I would use Tamron lenses again.

Have you tested the 17-28 on a A7iv? On that camera the 28-75 corner image quality falls apart.

I tried this once and it has serious focus issues. Need to wait for a73 firmware update before i reconsider it But... sigma 14-24 e mount seems a better value in the long run esp im renewing an interest in astrophotgraphy

I don’t have that lens but if I did I would only buy it for the f1.4 aperture. Other wise I’d get the Tamron 17-28 or Sony 16-35

I’ll save more and better get 1635 GM. This lens might be good, but biggest disadvantage for me is front hole. When you zoom in/out it’s easy for sand/dust go into lens body.

do you think plastic is less weather proof then metal. cuz thats not how it works. tamron is known for the weather sealing. did you notice it doesnt extend when zoomed. its much better sealed then the gm.

It does extend on the inside you can see it moving in and out. I wouldn’t call it sealed until you put a UV filter on it.

Sure but then it's not a wide zoom any longer. The new 16-55 f/2.8 from Sony is much more versatile.

Sony full frame lenses are as large as DSLRs with prices to match. Perfect for pro work, if you don't mind the weight. Tamron and Sigma is on the right path, both in price and size...

@@zabtej1645 Less emotions, more logic. The 16-35GM is objectively one of the best, if not THE BEST ultra wide zoom on FE platform. The constant f2.8, useful 16-35 range, terrific sharpness across the frame, good weather sealing, 11 blade aperture, great build and portable size make it a top lens. The only thing I can think of that comes close is the Sigma 14-24 2.8 and Sony 12-24, but both lack in focal range or speed.
