Hey, from Russian sources I can get through, there is a little other story. (I'm native Russian speaking person) First. The test pilot surname is not Anakin (but it's a good little meme you doing here), but Anohin. Second. There was 3 test runs in around 4 meters from the ground to test the ability of the tank to control it's wings at the test airfield. Third. The landing of a tank was successful, but it was an emergency landing. The plane was operating on it's maximum engine capacity and was able to get only about maximum of 40 meter off the ground. They tried to get more power from the engine, but it starts really overheating itself and they didn't really get any more vertical climbing. So the pilot decided to go to the nearest civil airfield (Bikovo near Moscow) and drop the tank around it. Forth. Tank was able to land at the airfield, but they didn't actually celebrate. The airfield control center wasn't notified about test fly and an alarm was raised. The test tank was captured by the red army and only after crew from initial test airfield drew to the Bikovo airfield the incident was settled down and tank on it's own was driven back to the test airfield. That was first and last real fly test. Fifth. The whole problem with the plane was due to miscalculating. The tank was tested in air tube without cables and trucks so they miscalculated engine power needed for the plane to carry flying tank. They also didn't take into consideration the air resistance. That's why test fly was doomed from the start. Sixth. The only plane that actually could carry flying tank was Petlyakov Pe-8 stratigic long range bomber. But since there was about 80 of them built in the whole second war time, such stratigic bomber couldn't be used in test fly in the first place.
