Season 5 had him in financial troubles over poor investments and the fact that to come work for House he had to take a serious pay cut from his plastic surgeon practice. His reasoning for not wanting to come back to work for House in season 6 was because of the pay cut and the financial strain it would put on him and his wife. In season 7 he has financial problems again, to the point where he considers quitting to go back to plastic surgery. At best, he's upper middle class. Better off than your average 9 to 5 guy but not 'retire at 30 and live a life of ease' rich. Also, he's short, balding, middle aged and has a terrible sense of style. He might not be extremely ugly, but he's definitely not a catch by any means. Couple that with his generally shitty demeanor and the fact that he's a known cheater, and you have to wonder how he has so many young attractive women all up on his jock.

Nothing is heartbreaking about physical attraction fading. When you are in an intimate relationship with someone you know their faults well, the overly musky smell of their vagina when they haven't showered, you smell their morning breath, get a whiff of their feces after they shit in your shared bathroom. Why? What is wrong with Taub except the fact he realizes it is very hard to maintain physical attraction to a single person for the rest of your life? Marriage is an illusion created by religion which is a fairy tale. Marriage is also incredibly possessive and fosters jealousy and mistrust. Imagine having a husband accept who he is and come clean that he is attracted to another female at work to prevent making the mistake of lies and deceit to his wife. Taub has a genetic predisposition to not be attracted to just one woman. He is quiet, compassionate, smart, funny, and has the ability to deal with annoyances (house XD).His wife allowing him to sleep with other women just for the physical need is just as impressive as Taub not lying to his wife to repeat the mistakes of the past. Both show love and compassion for one another. Actions speak louder than words.

@@MrTStat Well, yes, she does start to emotionally cheat on Taub in an online support group. I think that is definite small potatoes compared to what Taub does and she resorts to it as an attempt to try and salvage their marriage over divorce or forming a relationship with someone in real life. I somewhat even feel like calling it emotional cheating is a bit much since they don't actually know each other in real life. I don't think all couples feel comfortable divulging everything to their spouse and though I think it is definitely probable Rachel was starting to develop more than platonic feelings for the guy, she didn't appear to engage in anything sexual with him online like sexting or lewd comments or anything as far as we know. At the end of the day, she went to an online support group to try and keep her marriage to Taub afloat and I think she tried way harder than he did to maintain the marriage; certainly well past the point and reasonable person would have with how Taub was repeatedly behaving. She was a very forgiving person. Christ, she was even trying really hard to consider letting him sleep around with other women just to keep them together, she is a great person.

He's driven by instincts, addicted to feeling attractive to others like a drug. Not healthy, but in the end that's how it works. For better or worse people are animals driven by lower or higher instincts. It is clear from his discussion with his wife that he does love her and truly cares about her. There's an episode where house narrates his case to a bunch of kids. At some point he exaggerates about how both chase and Taub hit on a nurse and a kid asks him 'isn't that called sexual harassment?' and he answers 'not if you're hot' 'but you said one of them is short and bald' and I find that dialog sooooo spot on

Taub was definitely a horrible husband lol, but I liked his character. I do think that he should have divorced Rachel long ago because he really, really wanted kids and she didn't. And he wasn't fulfilled with filling his free time with fancy dinners and spending time with just her, but she was. Since being kicked to the curb by Rachel , Taub is happier and more fulfilled as a person. Rachel's needs put restrictions on their marriage and his career. He agreed to these restrictions because he wanted to make his wife happy. Since divorcing Rachel, his account balances will never be the same, but he now has a job he loves, coworkers who are also friends, and kids that he always wanted. He couldn't have all of this with Rachel because she didn't want kids (still surprised she had a baby) and she wanted a certain lifestyle, which was boring to him.

A lot of people will not understand where you're coming from on this, @610 - But I very much do. Sometimes, people end up in relationships that they never expected to last. Sometimes people become parents when they never expected to. When that happens, choosing to stay as a family and to be a present parent for your children is paramount. But, what if in that situation, the parents don't feel attracted to each other anymore? Does the family get torn apart and children separated from a parent? Or should the parents deal with their sexual desires as adults, leaving the family intact? Anyone with an "easy answer" to this has never been in hard, complicated situations in romantic relationships, and definitely haven't had children.
