The relief in my face, voice, and demeanor is the indicator of how much more promise the Taurus Poly M605 shows with a round more suited to its size and capabilities. It gets right down enjoyable to shoot.
I now carry the gun pretty regularly in a Blackhawk TecGrip holster.
Plenty of punch, in a small, convenient package.

I have been looking at this gun and the regular 605 (not the protector) and your videos (Part 1 and 2) helped me decide which one to get. I bought the Protector today. I have not shot it yet but you have helped me be prepared for it to bite with the heavier 357 rounds. :) Enjoyed your video and your candid, down to earth delivery. Stay safe and thank you!

As much as I shoot, with this one, after the first trial run, I thought, "Well, so much for that." But with a little determination and some ammo testing, I found the sweet spot. I actually carry the gun quite a bit now, and even enjoy shooting it. Good to hear from you.

Nice review. Helpful. I just purchased this gun mostly for the grip and ergonomics. Fits like a glove to my hand which is important for my accuracy. I’m new to this caliber gun and revolvers. I’m going with just 38 special rounds until I feel real comfortable and experienced shooting a revolver. I did check out recoil calculation websites to get a feel of range between the different ammo and compare recoil to other gun types - 380, 9mm, 45, etc. 38 cuts down recoil quite a bit. I only plan to use for conceal purposes and not more than 10 feet. I really don’t see the need to carry such a big punch with strong ammo at such range. I know the gun is for 357 but I see it as I have that option. For now, just run 38 until I master the gun. These reviews are so helpful. Thank you for putting the time in to get this information out.

James, the greatest value of any .357 magnum is its ability to fire .38 special, .38 special +p, and any load of .357 magnum. That's why so many people keep and carry this caliber gun, for the versatility of the rounds available to shoot through it.

Keep a eye on the flame cutting under the strap by the forcing cone. Those little 110gr's can really cut up any revolver straps. I quit reloading them for my sp101.

I'm thinking of buying one of these, the fde version i like alot. I was looking for something with a similar style to the Public Defender, I live in an oppressive state, so Judges are considered SBS[short barreled shotguns], so they are illegal without an AOW and I'm not fond of stamps. I wasn't familiar with the m605 until the other day, im gonna get it as a backup.

I made the Mistake of running some 125gr's in my 605 poly over a charge or 21gr of h110 that I had loaded for a Ruger security 6 6" bbl. Man What a Dumb friggen Idea. Yeah, while I've gained grudging respect for this hand smasher, and sometimes even carry it, to practice with it takes ammo that just "fits" what it is. A small, light. .357 magnum.

Hey Mark thanks for the video man. Are you still running rounds through this thing? And have you encountered any issues? My local gun store has this exact piece. I was a bit skeptical at the thought of a polymer 357 but seems like you have had some good luck with it and for the value it's hard to pass up. Especially when you consider the price of other 357 snubs . Thanks man!

Yeah, this review is close to three years old now. It took some time to 'warm up' to this gun, but after some more testing, and a little fun with friends, I put it through it's paces with just about everything made to shoot in it. When I carry it (just a little bit) it travels with me with 110 gr. .357 magnums, or 158 grain .38 special +p. It continues to work, and handle all ammo well, as far as function and durability.

I just picked one up, ( TAURUS 605 poly Protecter 357 ) took it to the range and shoot 158 grain 357 load and it wasn't a problem, don't know why you are having such trouble. My hand feels fine after shooting 25 rounds of 158 grain 357 loads, I will say that shooting 38.scp loads are better for hitting the middle of the target , but I will carry 357 rounds in my 357 revolver.
@MarkRogersCGO
@MarkRogersCGO Год назад
Between the two video reviews, on and off camera, I shot about 250 rounds. Not 25. That included 158 gr, 125 gr, 110 gr in .357, and 158 gr in .38 spl+p. Nothing in either video review says anything about it being a 'problem' or having any 'trouble' with it. I reported on what I knew would be the disconcerting hammering on people's hands with the 158 grain loads. Unless somebody has very fat hands, with most people, it just plain hurts. Something that has been pretty much agreed on with anybody who's shot mine, and people commenting here. I still own the gun, practice with it, and carry it (now with 125 gr .357 mag loads) under limited circumstances. That because there never has been any 'problem' or 'trouble' with it.

I bought this gun and want to use it as my EDC. What's the best/proper way to line up the front orange sights with the rear? TIA
@MarkRogersCGO
@MarkRogersCGO 2 года назад
With the rear sight molded into the polymer frame, and no option for moving the front one, you're stuck with what comes out of the box. There is no option for any adjustment. That's not unlike many small frame revolvers.
@imaphxaznative
@imaphxaznative 2 года назад
@@MarkRogersCGO that makes sense. That being the case should I line up the top of the front sight with the top of the rear sight so the orange fiber optic is within the cutout of the rear sight? And do I cover the bullseye 🎯 with the orange dot so it can't be seen? TIA
@MarkRogersCGO
@MarkRogersCGO 2 года назад
@@imaphxaznative First, start up very close to your target, like a couple of feet away. Then as you shoot a few shots move back incrementally to make corrections. Start by lining up the sights just like you described. Then place the sight on the target. Test and make adjustments as you shoot and move back. That will take care of initially figuring the gun out.

It's not a polymer frame. It's a steel frame like any other .357 revolver. The frame, barrel, cylinder, etc. are all steel. It's only parts that don't have to be steel that are polymer, like the barrel shroud/ ejector rod cover, trigger guard, grip frame and hammer shroud. They saved some weight that way (but not really much weight, it's still 20 oz.)

No sir. Not even close. Even for experienced gun owners, it's a test of will, determination, and practice. It's been in quite a few other experienced shooters' hands now. And with mid - heavy loads, I watch their hands shift after every shot. Their grip actually gets knocked loose. But with 110 grain loads, and plenty of practice, I've gotten to where I enjoy shooting it, and now carry it from time to time. Not a good choice for a first time self defense weapon, or even recreational shooter.
