Preheating is not necessary when you drove a longer distance at higher power prior to arriving at the SC. Waste heat from batrety and drive train are fully sufficient. I usually plan to arrive at a SC at at least 10% SOC and when I see that I sureley will reach the SC I do a little final sprint to hest up the battery.

Thanks for the tip. That s a good one. But what do you do to avoid preconditioning / high consumption? Do you remove the supercharger from the route?

@@life-with-beck That's probably not necessary as you observed yourself that preheating isn't enabled when the battery is already warm. An exception might be if your battery somehow cools due to a traffic jam or slow traffic. Another trick might be to accelerate and use regen brakes as this will also heat up the drive train.

You COULD consider charging at the hotel over night. I see at chargemap that Prizeotel has 2x22KW type 2 chargers on location. It’s a bit pricey but that way you could save a bit of time on day two… maybe even reducing chargestops to only one…

Thanks for the tip. I actually tried to charge overnight but the charging price was 50% higher than the SUC price. I also had to pay for the hotel parking itself ( somewhere around 20 eurs) as well, so it didn’t worth it for me. Indeed, this would have saved me some time. In my previous trip when I was sleeping over in Staycity hotel Heidelberg I always use their charging facility: 15 EUR parking with included charging.

@@life-with-beck makes lots of sense… I guess attractive EV charging is going to be a deciding factor for hotels, BnB etc in th future.

Range estimation is probably done taking the previous trips into account. Headwind and rain can influence driving range. Water on the road requires the tires to extra work. It's like pumping two bathtubs full of water for every hundred meters.

Yup, that s my theory as well with the previous trip, but that is not entirely accurate. As for water on the road and wind, this is the weather factor. Why shouldn’t this be taken into account, especially when people have premium connectivity?
@dirkvornholt2507
@dirkvornholt2507 2 месяца назад
@life-with-beck Even premium connectivity can't predict local circumstances. Wind data e.g. is usually not, or only partially corrected, for wind shielding effects from trees or bushes along the track. Water on the road can be influencing the range differently depending if you have draining asphalt concrete roads or track grooves. Just drive a little slower in rain. This will offset some of the effects and avoid hydroplaning.
