Testing out Clone editing methods.. can you see How it's done?

Happy day after Easter break my flying film making friends. So have an #actor friend who needs to do an important #selftape, but is in isolation. Told them they could act against them selves, if no other way. There are two man ways of filming/editing this #clone effect, so I shot two examples for them to try.. can you tell which is which and how they were done? For giggles put your ideas in the comments below. Two methods were used.. Will fess up on Friday.

I would have used a mask for this. I’ve done one with 5 or 6 of me in the room. The wife “loved” it 😬.. looking forward to seeing how you did this on Friday 👍🏼

Premiere Pro....2 clips, you put one above the other and you mask the half of the second one....The timing of speech has to be correct for a nice result.

Simple masking, your 1st clip was the better one though as you mask by the left pillow. The 2nd clip you can see the door handle on the left move were you masked down the door. Good acting by the way 😁

Mmm. Agree with masking.. unless using green screen, which would be keying, difficult not too.. but I'll need a bit more .. close, but not quite..😉

Camera on tripod filmed two scenes then masked them together ...... simple but good - cheers H

Second one was split image straight down the door. The first one I believe there was more feathering on the edge of the mask line which I really thought was good as you see the bed covers move as they should. (Masking around yourself on the left ) Glad your back here. I'm not sure if you remember I won the mavic pro zip case from you (I was called droning on again) now changed my channel name and as you can see from my avatar I now fly for real. Ps I still use the case and it's been very useful thank you 👍🏻

I would imagine the Darth Vader one is easier with the straight door edge to do split screen. But I'm really curious to see how you did the bed scene. Masked to the edge of your pillow? I like the way, when 2nd you hops on, the sheet gets pulled right from under the pillow of 1st you. That would be harder to mask, right?

@@IkoptaUk My brother is a photographer and film-maker. One of his first jobs as a young camera-trainee was on David Cronenberg's "Dead Ringers", where Jeremy Irons plays the role of twin brothers. It included scenes using a computer controlled camera that could precisely repeat camera motions. That revolutionized "twin" shots in which the same actor plays both parts, because now the split screen scene no longer needed to be held static. The camera can twice follow Jeremy Irons talking to himself while moving down the sidewalk.

I'm guessing: (1) Two separate video clips, the higher (i.e. in the timeline) Dylan masked to allow the lower Dylan to 'shine through' - gotta watch those shadows! (2) Because of the Dylan1 frame re-timing, Dylan2 must have been a green-screen with the keying colour masked. My tuppence. Oh, and quit it with the passive-aggressive commentary; she only asks where you've been because she was concerned about you, such -interrogation- -investigation- -questioning- -cross-examination- , erm, 'curiosity' shows that she loves you. And that's a good thing.

First is green screen, there is a difference in skin tone between the two Dylans due to lighting differences at recording time. The first Dylan cast no shadow on the wall, the second one does. Second one is a split screen, you can see both doors move slightly right as they transition back to the single left side screen.

Two recordings taken with a camera on a tripod then cut together in an editing program using layers. Could also use a green screen but this is more difficult as you tend to get halos around the people unless lighted correctly.

First Clip was split screen and the left hand side was greenscreened, the second was just splitscreened down the middle.

You duplicate the clips and have them on top of eachother on the timeline, then you scale the video horizontally until it’s half and half with the video below? Never done it before was just my guess

Mask layers - for the second clip. The first clip you never interact with other sides so could just be two videos swidged together. (technical term)

Acting 🤦‍♂️ we all thought the force was strong with this one!! How was it done?🤔 Split screen, over layering or even green screen... either way it takes planning, a good story board, script and a pinch of acting magic! The bed looked cosy tho! 😂
