Drone Video LUTS Workflow..What's yours?

Really useful content! The only problem I have with LUTs is my editing software in general. Whoever reads this... DO NOT GET PowerDirector or ColorDirector. You can add LUTs but you can’t dial down the intensity/opacity of them so they come on quite strong and it’s worse to dial in a LUT instead of just color grading on your own. Wish they would fix it but what can ya do? Great video IKOPTA!!

I've never used a LUT either. If I grade I just simply shoot in log and edit to suit taste. Great video as always.

Thank you Dylan! 100% agree with getting the most out of your equipment first. A lot of people feel that LUTs will make crap footage "amazing.....!" LUTs are the icing on the cake, they are not the cake! I mentioned this on another channel and got a heeeeaaaaaaap of bad comments, as there's a general notion out there that no need to know how to get the best out of your camera, because we can just throw a LUT in it and everything's great. But, if people know more about the camera that LUT might not be required.

Really enjoyed this even though I aint got much of a clue whats going on as I'm new to drones and photography 😀. Every little bit helps me on my journey though 👍

I tend to 'think' about LUTs and colour management in general as a two step process: (1) Colour Correction and (2) Colour Grading. Colour correction is just about correcting D-LOG-M footage, and for this I just use the free DJI-supplied D-LOG-M to Rec709 LUT available from their website e.g. here for the Mavic 2 Pro: www.dji.com/uk/mavic-2/info#downloads). After colour correction, I then go onto grading, and this is of course entirely subjective and per your own personal taste/style. Lightroom has a load of built-in grading LUTs, PolarPro's LUTs used to be free for 1080p footage but looks like they're only offering 'Purity' for free now, the Film Poets do a reasonably priced set (www.thefilmpoets.com/edu/store/mavic-2-pro-skygrades-collection/) and there are loads of free grading LUTs out there too: www.shutterstock.com/blog/129-free-cinematic-luts.

Dylan I realise you used Premier pro on this, but do I have to use the more costly software like Adobe & Final cut to process/grade D-log files or am I able to use the likes of imovie and other basic free downloadable stuff. Thanks.

Hi Dylan, I always shoot in D Log then in post change the RGB settings from studio to computer and I find this does most of the work for me. I use Vegas as I have a clunky old computer ☹️

The inly problem with Adjustment layers is they take about 8 times as long to render....
