Join me for a deep dive into Standard 1 of the Texas PPR Standards, which make up all of Domain I and a portion of Domain III on the exam. Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to my channel and like the videos. Thanks
What I learned from this video was that every teacher before they enter a classroom they are required to plan lessons that reflect the understanding of their students developmental needs. Knowing where they are to be able to help them.
I enjoyed how you said “knowing how to alter or adjust a lesson to better suit the needs of the students” Since dance involves the body movement, I feel like there’s more ways of knowing how to teach something and what you said applies a lot to teaching dance.
Every student learns differently in the classroom and not all students indeed learn the same since each student has their own learning style whether they are visual or auditory learners. It is important to recognize and support their educational needs especially individual work or in group activities. As educators, we want students to grasp the material and make sure every student is participating in the lesson. In addition, the example you gave in this video which was the Think-Pair-Share group activity... you explained it so well because it allows students to share their ideas with other students. This video was very detailed and gave me a better understanding of Domain I of the PPR.
It was very helpful to see the overlap or foundation for all domains. It is a building block that is necessary to learn so that we can see how each domain stems from the standard and how it is a subset within its own content.
This video helped me with understanding the extent of how deep Domain I goes. Making sure you consider ALL students regardless of any disability when planning and assessing instructions.
As a teacher is important to understand Piaget, Maslow, and Bloom's theories because these theories provide insights into how students learn and grow. By understanding these theories, we can create more effective learning environments for their students. Thank you for the video.
I found it very important that whatever you are teaching and trying to get the students to learn, that it is important to use language and verbal cues that they could understand and connect with what you are trying to teach them and show them.
Once again, thank you for these informative videos. Understanding all the theories by Blooms, Piaget, and Maslow will help all educators in the classroom setting. I now am aware, how effective learning environments are for each of my students, especially in a self-contained classroom.
One of the things we firmly believe here at FSHISD is to know your WHO. This is what I get from this video is to know who your students, not just their name but know their background and where they are coming from.
using different avenues is significantly helpful in general but I have found it is a necessity when working with emergent bilingual students. It helps them so much!
Domain I has an umbrella of standards that fall under it and focuses on students' characteristics, diversity, effective instruction, and promoting student learning. You mentioned the image depicting the differences visually between a student-centered learning vs a teacher-centered learning. That meant all aspects as to who they are as humans, developmental areas, utilizing their skills and needs to become active and engaged learners.
It is important to overlap learning experiences for students. It is so important for students to make these connections and teachers to help facilitate those connections.
I'm currently subbing at an Elementary School and it is so true how not all students learn the same. It is very important to figure out their learning preferences in order to support learning. Loved all the information in this video!
Very interesting to understand teacher centered and student centered learning where students can be practicing the language and give them the opportunity to practice their knowledge, beliefs and experiences by working together maybe in cooperative groups to help at each other and feel successful.
My first six weeks was a six weeks full of "learning" how to teach my classroom. My classroom was a teacher centered classroom in the beginning of this first six week, but I have worked to develop and arrange my classroom to a more student centered classroom moving forward.
Because you outlined the distinctions between the domains and standards in this video and provided examples of applying them to children with various learning styles, I enjoyed seeing it. I create lessons depending on each student's needs and talents while working with special needs students, and I have to look at their specific education plans.
The video lays out the importance of guiding instruction to include students backgrounds. Identifying students interests and including them to guide instruction will allow for the student to get interested, get engaged and remain engaged. Not all students learn the same and should be treated as individual learner with different learning styles. Providing multiple opportunities to receive instruction allows for the student to be able to choose which method works best for them to absorb information. A student centered classroom, empowers students and gives them a sense of ownership in the classroom and and sense of pride to keep order in their classroom. The inclusion of differentiated instruction in lesson plans allows for pre planning to address the different learning styles and different learning of students. The video was very helpful and just reiterated what I learned in my Masters program.
Another great video that helps break down Standard I. This video just reinforce the information that I was taught in another video that she has recorded. Some of the information that was new to me was standard 1.1 helps me understand why we plan lesson the way we do. For instance, older students think more abstract versus how younger students think process is concrete. A teacher is not going to do the same activity for both of these age groups. You have to tailor the lessons towards they way each age group thinks. Great information in these video.
Thank you for breaking down each domain and standard. I currently work as an instructional aide with pre-k and getting to know each student has been very important in their success since they all learn very differently. I have a few that I have to approach with a different learning strategy to help them engage in the instruction.
Excelent information Ms. Sauceda! Now I know that it is very important to understand domain I. I liked the idea you mentioned about think-pair-share since it helps students to share their ideas with other students.
As an educator, being aware of your students background is crucial in order to provide the best opportunities for success, whether it be types of motivations, projects, instruction, etc. being assessed. It’s also important to know when teacher or student centered learning is appropriate and will benefit the students most.
I really like what you said, that it is important to have different plans in case one is not helping the students, usually one only have plan A but is necessary to have also plan B and C.
My whole homeroom is ESL except 5, it is so important that they be part of the "student centered learning" and incorporate their culture in my classroom
It is important to know how learning will be best beneficial to students at different ages. A great example that was mentioned was that younger students would not be able to stay seated for long. So it would be beneficial for those younger students to maybe have a more kinesthetic type lesson.
I really enjoyed this video because you explained in detail the difference between the domains and standards and how to apply them to students with different learning styles.I work with special need students and I have to look at each individual student education plan and design lessons based on their needs and abilities.
Learned so much during this video, there are so many things to cover. Every student is at a different level and it is important to make sure everyone is grasping the material. There is so much to do to have a productive classroom but this is a great place to start.
I liked this video, because it is very true that students are on different levels and learn in different ways. So, that lessons that we plan should aim to engage their interest so that we may see the best from them.
This was helpful for me to gain some insight on what it means to be aware of cultural differences and socioeconomic struggles. I do agree with you about how we need to be able to highlight strengths that a student already has so they can feel confident in taking some agency with their learning process. The breakdown of the domains so far I have Domain I - Appropriate assessments. Domain II - Classroom environment. This is just so I can practice discussing with another person.
Awesome content! Watching these videos coupled with the flash cards and practice questions has been extremely helpful particularly with confidence. I needed these tips and refreshers for the exam just daily life.
Students do learn in different ways, working as an aide I've seen first hand how some teachers try to make it interesting for a certain group of kids. For example during a math class, there's this group of kids that are football players. So in order for the teacher to have their attention and for them to better understand the material he uses football players and football terms in his problems, this gets the group of kids more engaged.
I learned that assessing is not just for grading but is to learn where your student stands at and know what they are learning. We assess constant to know if they have master the objective and if not find other ways to help your student who is struggling to learn the material needed. Learned that what is important is to learn how to apply your lesson to your grade level of students. Learned that cognitive development and emotional development because each student is different by grade level. Like the lower grade level students are concrete learners. You have to build the lesson base on the needs of the student because you can't do one lesson that is for upper grade level students for lower level students.
Video allow us to understand the importance of language. To create an environment were the student is encourage to use the language and that will help them in other sections. The video also goes over domains and strategies.
Great video! Main concept I took away was the think-pair share concept. Allowing students to partner up together and exchange knowledge with each other. Especially with ELL students since they tend to be shy. Allows for them to practice communication skills.
I think it's important to utilize the resources we have whether it be online or in person. It adds a layer to the instruction. For example for me as a dance teacher if I am giving a lecture on Konark Dance Festival I not only talk about the dance styles that are done but I can also show them videos of the festival.
When gen ed teachers and sped teachers introduce similar books, the students make the connection between history, literature and reading. Giving the students the same story in history that you would in literature can help them connect the characters with the story line while learning grammar and other literary concepts.
Very interesting in how students tend to learn in different ways is very important, I've been teaching for 4 years and see how students have different levels in how they comprehend material. Following students IEP may help you reach the students goal
It’s important to acknowledge student’s backgrounds, their skills, interests and learning needs to effectively teach them. If we are passionate about really getting to know our students then we will create bonds with them and in return create successful life-long learners.
I rhink that it is important to make that transition from teacher centered learning to student centered learning as soon as possible, particularly when you have several different populations in your classroom, that way we can help our students be as successful as possible.
We want students to be active in the learning environments. Active collaborative group work help every student practice their language and social skills. Getting to know each student will allow for better teaching connection with the student.
It appears from this video that Domain I and, by extension, domain III makes up over 50% of the test. They are important because they deal with design of lesson plans and teaching those lessons. With Domain I, specifically the design of lesson plans that take into consideration not only Texas standards (very important) but also the age, developmental needs, culture. prior knowledge and background and will engage the students. This will require adjustments and differentiation. Remember that all students are individuals and are not similar in what they know, how they learn, what engages them, etc...Know the TEKS, know how to incorporate essential knowledge into the lesson plan and how connections can be made to their lives and across different subjects / classes. Goal and objectives are very important. Know what outcome you are looking for, develop a plan and how best to measure success. Diverse students require diverse methods.
I really appreciate the way you break down the domains. The way you explain that there is no definite way for a student to be successful in activities reassures me that I am doing everything I can to make sure my students are successful in my classroom.
What I really like about this video is taking the student’s interest or socioeconomic backgrounds to consider into the classroom or projects so the student can be successful in the classroom work because it is highly important to take consideration in student’s access to technology outside of the school, but still making sure that everyone provides the same group of work.
This video is important when it comes to the individual student population at your school. Getting to know your students is important when lesson planning. I loved the example of the art teacher planning Christmas activities when she should have planned Hannukah activities. That is a fantastic example of the importance of learning about your students backgrounds and interests.
One thing I learned from this video was right off the bat. Teacher center and student centered, the communication between different learning was something I saw in the test. -John Barrientos
we as a teachers need to know all type of different needs in order to support our students. Sped, EL,s 405, etc. Also know how can learn better with different technic. Planning instruction that the students are interested on the lesson.
I appreciate this video. I've only been teaching for about a month, but very much agree that students learn differently, and it's extremely important that we're able to create a lesson plan that will benefit the entire class as much as possible, especially when it comes to our English Language Learners, as a lot of them will be on a uniquely different level in their English Learning journey.
Your sessions are so helpful. I would otherwise still be somewhat lost if I had not stumbled across your content. Is there a way for me to get access to the documents you are using in this video. The strategies are very enlightening.
Thank you for sharing this information. I was having trouble understanding think.pair.share (thank you for breaking it down). How can I find the PPR Quick Guide?
