Be very careful with Thai women, when I was in Thailand, the hotel owner I was staying told me to be very careful if you had a Thai girlfriend because they have so many foreign boyfriends to trick you and get your money.

I brought my Thai wife to Australia some 10 years ago and she has recently left me, totally out of the blue. I would never look for a relationship with a Thai woman again. Her sons came at 1 and 2, her parents at 3 and 4, her brothers and sisters 5,6,7,8,9 and 10, and then me (then again the dogs may have been before me). That was the order of priority (and yes as one poster pointed out below they are good at playing the "long game" which lures you into a false sense of security). Someone very close to me married a Thai woman. He traveled to the US and caught Covid. When she heard about this, she traveled there. The thing to keep in mind about Thailand is that it's preferable and prudent to rent EVERYTHING. Property ownership and/or believing you're in a committed/loving/trusting relationship are simply temporary illusions. If you understand that, and can afford the rental cost, life in Thailand can be quite enjoyable and reasonably safe. And when it goes south, which it most certainly will at some point, be fully prepared to walk away. This applies to most of the rest of the world, as well!
Exactly. I had a relationship with two girls in Thailand, for a few days only bar girls. I like both of them and gave them gifts and took them to eat. Everything was fine until the last minute when I was about to leave the bar and head out to the hotel for the flight back the next morning. And then arguing and fighting started over the money that was in the pot. I saw a different side of these girls. One in which I wasn't really proud to see or happy. Yet I walked away to my hotel I had to remember that these girls have a totally different environment and living conditions that I had growing up. I thought that I could not judge them based on what I thought based on right and wrong. So I let it go. They weren't fighting with me anyway they were fighting amongst themselves. I still talk to them on line every couple days. When I go back to Thailand I will still hang out with them, because I like them and I enjoy their company. What you say is so true but its the same the world over to some extent. I got fleeced by a Jamaican woman 2 years my senior in a 12y marriage in the UK. No woman wants a skint man. Just put in what your prepared to lose. Never tell a woman about all your wealth. Always keep something for yourself emotionally. Let me play devil's advocate: what if these older, sickly, physically unattractive guys know the reason why such a beautiful woman half his junior know he is seen as an ATM to her, but because she provides companionship and treats him well, shows affection, he rolls with it because in his mind having someone is better than being alone? I think as many people have learned,Thailand and Thai women looks great at first but when you scratch the surface,all the dirt come and without playing the blame game,too much cultural differences makes it very hard to have a successful relationship. At first i was very pro Thai women to build something...now after all my experiences,it's a big no...i know it won't work...i know her parents are number one whatever i can do...if things get hard she will move out for the sake of her parents. So well that setting is not for me. And to add another thing,it's a Thai thing probably to run away and not face any problem, so nothing surprising when your girlfriend just disappear suddenly and you thought all were right. I totally agree with you! I have live it and I have experience it! Thai women in general are beautiful but a big percent just want the money. This is why marriage among Thais is usually within their same socio-economic levels. The man or woman and respective families do NOT want a leech dragging them down. There are tons of gold-diggers after Thai men also but foreigners are soft targets. Speaking the language and even better also reading it fends off gold-diggers like a cross disperses vampires. Living in LOS my experience is mixed. Usually it is the middle class and above that you get non gold digging mentality although some struggling middle class have tried to borrow money(a bad idea). The segment of women actively seeking foreign boyfriends has a high % of golddiggers. Many actually define boyfriend as someone that pays them a salary and money as needed LOL. I have dated gals that actually took me out for the night, picked the tab. One even covered a 3 day trip to Hua Hin, nice hotel and all. If you don't live in Thailand it is not easy to meet normal nice people. Through an upscale Thai friend I know of a well known female tv journalist with high salary, nice life but saw her at a high end massage place on the vip floor available for the right price. It would seem for some, sex can become a mere commodity.

When men get a windfall such as a promotion/better paying job/business deal comes off it's pretty common to see the same look as they step out of their newly bought car or flash their new Rolex down the pub. Nothing controversial or indeed that negative in it- ditto the woman need to look after their own financial security (and their family as its their responsibility in these cultures) so an old fart on the arm serves that purpose quite well and meet their main objectives as set out my their own culture.
I've been with a few Thai's and I've lived in Thailand for a year. From my observations and experiences. The majority of thai women who seek foreigners, They are mostly driven by money or visas in their relationships. Most thai women who aren't actively seeking foreigners and are happy dating thai men aren't really driven by money in their relationships. The ones to beware of are the thai women who are really good at English. If you want to increase your chances of a genuine Thai woman. Its a requirement to learn Thai because you will meet alot of down to earth Thai's that way. Knowing just English in Thailand, is massively limiting your options to potential gold diggers.
90% of us older guys dating much younger Thai women already know these things! But good advice for those who are newbies though it's all fairly obvious really.

I met a Thai girl online, most of the 2 years, she would talk to me about random things. Sometimes, I would go a week, or 2 without replying or talking to her. She did not further message me, until i went a long time without replying. But, she has not really been interested in money. It is not true that all women are interested in money or immigration status. They simply are interested in lighter skin. She showed me some pictures she went out to buy some clothes and showed me a model.. on the Thai clothes, actors, models.. most of them have a white complexity in their skin. To act like its all about money, you must have been in hooker town or something because Thai women are different, just like in the states.

I taught English in Korea and China, and I've been considering teaching in Thailand. I just came across your channel, and I'm glad to get a slap in the face with reality. I shouldn't bother going there in the near future, especially since my goal is to save money. Sure, there are some great Thai women, but marriage is risky as it is. Even if things are great, you're still just an ATM to her family. I should have remembered an ex-friend of mine who married a Filipina. (The guy paid for her sister-in-law's college education, and within a month after graduating, she got knocked up.)

As a successful and overweight American with a Thai wife, I find your diatribe lacks an acceptance of the fact that the world over, marriages are the result of market forces. Thai women display the same desire for financial security and status as women all over the world. The principal difference is that the cost is much lower and they generally provide far more in return. if one understands anything about economics, it is readily apparent that wages in Thailand are terrible and most families struggle to move beyond food security. In every society women are hypergamous because they want to provide stability for their offspring, but in Thailand this very often includes raising the standard of living for her family as well. If the cost of doing so is well within your financial capability, why would you not spend the money to do so? This does not extend to spending money solely or the purpose of raising their social status, but that is why any smart man who marries a Thai woman insists on spending time with her family first. My parents in law never need to work again, but are up at 3AM most mornings to begin harvesting rubber and grow their own rice because they believe it is better than any they can but commercially. I married a Thai woman to have a family with, so my primary consideration in choosing a wife was her values. And because I took the time to learn Thai, it was easy to find a woman who had such values and I found desirable. But why should old men in the twilight of their lives, who might very well be overweight because of medical conditions or injuries that make it difficult to exercise not choose to participate in a relationship market where they are more competitive than in their home country? And why should young Thai women not try and pursue a temporary relationship that might improve their financial security when they are sacrificing valuable time that takes away from the ultimate pursuit of finding a partner to have children with? Such a relationship is far more fulfilling and less damaging than the commercial sex merry go round so many Westerners ride in Thailand.

We have been taught since our ancestors to be grateful to our parents and benefactors who raised us. But I see most farangs don't take care of their parents. Must live in loneliness, lack of caretakers, some in shelters Some husbands are sick, while the wife goes to the party with friends. Nong Sow, thank you for your words. You are correct. One of the biggest differences between Thai culture and most western cultures is how they treat family. Few westerners really understand the responsibility that all Thai have to their parents and family. The saying is 'when you marry a Thai girl you marry her family as well'. Its true. Every Thai/Western relationship that lasts, is when the Guy understands the woman's responsibility to her family. If he doesn't, then the relationship will not last.

I always quote this when trying to explain the contrast between Western and Thai culture. In my culture (Australia) the most horrible crime that a person can commit is to kill your child. In Thailand the same horror is to kill a parent. Hungry Ghosts. It is sad that my culture discards its aged. We (the West) have a lot to learn from the Thai. A lot of what western culture does with their aged is truely horrible. Without a strong family, we are nothing.
Yes I've lived in Thailand for the past 18 years, MONEY, is the number one destination for Thai women. The old saying is , "You hitting the nail on the head ". No money no honey !!

The problem, in all of these, is renting versus buying. It's who is scaming who first. Why would you expect to be older and get a young woman to stay with you? Any time marriage or go to your country, you should run.

I've been married 7 years first 4 years good but after this things were getting bad I want car I want house I want restaurant the list was getting bigger I did buy a car because of our children but her friends who are bar girls messed up her mind, things were getting worse and worse over the same 3 years she drinks everyday her family has had enough of her even her sisters don't speak to her much they are well educated girls and never asked anything from me and sometimes buy me food which is rare, after 18months of lock down had finished I went back there to see her she had changed her face was different she had plastic surgery which made her look strange such a pretty girl now a monster I couldn't say what I thought I just went along with her but love making was boring as I didn't want to be there we had lots of fights and she was acting like a child in the end i went back home we are not talking

The free one costs the most. Let’s look at how it compares with Australia. If the male earns under 100k a year they WONT get a girlfriend younger than them or under 80kg. I think most women ‘scale up’ financial demands as a relationship progresses. It starts with free dinners, then vacations, then credit cards or loans, then houses or cars, finally a divorce payout. The women in Thailand target older gents to receive a will payout within ten years. Those guys are pretty easy to play, often the girl has a Thai boyfriend (her age) in her village who is aware. That is certainly a clear cut example of financial manipulation. Of course, very common in the big tourist areas. Whether that is indicative of all Thai-western relationships is a bit of an over-statement I’d say. When I lived in Thailand I dated some really exceptional women who were very accomplished in their careers and didn’t really need any of my basic income. We split the bills 50/50, no hassles at all! You’ll be glad to know we were the same age too. I guess there’s always exceptions.

Once they crack 40 they are far more pragmatic and scared that their "catch" will go for a younger women (having seen it thousands of times) - you are their last chance and as such a better bet... but don't think its necessarily love... As well, finding one that is over 40, still good looking and if she is, then not jaded... very, very, very, difficult. But in the Western women - once they crack 50, isn't it the same? The difference is simply that Western women 'age out' slower because they have better healthcare , their own careers and so on... but still the same motivations...

I agree with you 1000% i have been coming to thailand for 23 years since the age of 18 im now 40 and yes ihave had meny thai girlfriends and iv been married and divorced to a thai womon and i now have a another thai wife that i have been married to for 2 years she is a christien thai born in thailand with bermiees perents who are very poor and yes she is money driven that thinks of her family first but i made ground rules before we got married and said i will only sopport you and your mother and father but not your entire family she was a bit miffed about it but she excepted my terms that i will not be treated like a ATM one blessing is she does not have any kids unlike my ex thai wife that had one child from a thai man, i agree with you all the way that thay see us western blokes as a hole in the wall meaning ATM but i stand ferm to my limits of what i give her and ten thousend baht a mounth is all she gets and half of that she sends to her mother and father i now have been living i thailand with her for 1 year now and things have been ok tuch wood lol
I date a thai woman. In fact we live together. I invited her to get a house cleaner and I would be happy to pay for it. She actually came out and said it would be 500 baht one day a week. That was a flat out lie when at the time I was paying a guy 100 baht a day to do work around the house. Big difference between a cleaning lady and a skilled trade worker. Back in the old times man support the family and wife took care of children and wife in my country. In Thailand its a lot of poore woman who have to support family. Many families have the oldest woman to take care of economic. So if u have a serious relationship or merried a Thaiwoman u are a part of family.IF u contribute with money ,the limits is up to U! Make it very clear what u want to support. Dont forget when U live in Thailand u maybe pay for condo/house,el,water,food etc. if U alone. So, its UP TO U !
