When you look at a job, hedge ect and they say (the last bloke only charge me) well, where is he/she now lol. I'm very much my price is the price, take it or leave it, Im a bit long in the tooth and really can't be bothered with haggling customs. Enjoyed the morning chat video and look forward to seeing the planned videos 👍
Another great video buddy - boy oh boy some customers, I'd just walk. The best one I've ever had was "ok if you leave the waste onsite can you knock off £50? Yeah sure no problem - 6' high and about 8' long pile of hedge etc cuttings. OMG I didn't think there would be that much - I'll have to get a skip!!!!!"
When pricing a job, I look and then tell them that I will be in touch with a quote. That could be a text message or email. I have standard wording, all professional. Since doing this I have been more successful and it avoids unnecessary conversations. All the best.
RW thats a good way. Small jobs i give a price on the spot. Bigger jobs i get back to them the next day via text or email. That why i have time to think about the job properly, and dont shoot myself in the foot. I also think customers prefer that.
We only do a small amount of private work now and that’s one of the reasons. Haggling over nothing. If they want cheap it means getting someone who will do a rush job and probably tip it in a lay-by.
I feel your pain Mike. The past 2-3 weeks for me on the pricing side has been a joke (fencing side of things). They either don't even acknowledge the quote or ask for a reduced rate..........I have started to challenge people once I have submitted quotes (follow up). I don't think some people realise that it takes time, money and effort to produce good quotations, the least that they could do is get back to you and tell you yes or no. I had one the other week where I received an email saying that I was xxx hundred dearer than another company (who he was going to go with). I cheekily asked the guy if he would mind sending me a copy of their quote - to his credit he did.........I had to laugh when I looked at their quote, the materials they had quoted were shocking.......after multiple emails back and forth, he ended up awarding the job to me once I had explained in detail why their quote was so cheap. This is not something I would normally do, but it just shows you that if you stand your ground and believe in your end product, and DO NOT drop your price, decent people will usually accept. The laugh of this particular job is that I also received a large tip at the end ! Have you had the old "I work for the NHS" statement yet ? Key worker and all that.............really hacks me off :-) Good to see you posting again, and hope all is well
Lol yep that's another one I've had quite a lot and most when you ask them for Id there like Erm it's inside. Lol And I try and follow up on any qoute iff I don't hear anything from them.. I was allway told never to leave it more than two weeks
@@lincsfencingandgardeningse9128 Yes, the old NHS statement angers me.......I think they think I should bow and start clapping like a seal.......don't get me started on the whole covid thing......lol Yes, following up on quotes is really something I should do more often, I guess I just think that people in general are gracious and appreciative and will get back to you..........How wrong am I !!! :-)
I've just installed two of there cheap panels andd to be honest there ok I picked a couple from B&Q and I didn't even get them off. Pallet before they ware breaking apart
@@lincsfencingandgardeningse9128 haha, our local store always has a cheap cart of panel bits 🤣 I did install some waney edge panels the other week and forgot how light they are. Been doing load featheredge stuff lately.
I have heard all the old sob story's from clients over the years, you can negotiate a little with them but you still have to make a living. I agree with somebody who was talking on here ,that he gave his quotation and alot of the time the clients just go cold on you and don't let you know either way if you have the project or not.
A customer of mine lives in a £750,000 house with a new car every year, holidays in America and the garden is huge. I cut the grass for a reasonable amount and I'm happy. But when it comes to trimming bushes, applying weed killer and stuff, you give her a price and it's like you've hit her on the back of the head with a spade. I don't care if you're rich or poor, my price is the same. I've had one were she, jokingly, tried to charge me for the tea she'd given to me. In general though, all my customers are great.
I've heard several times that at least 50% of your quotes should be considered too expensive by potential clients and that those are the jobs you're best leaving to some other poor sod. I followed that line and don't regret it.
You would think they ware the cheapest but Apprently they ware about average on price. The first red flag for me is they called one company and got another turn up
Dont waste your time and energy on these customers mate. There not worth it! Give a price and if they argue then just walk away. Iam more than fair with my prices, probs too cheap. Most come crawling back once they get other prices or a cowboy does it cheaper and balls it up! Take care mate
I simply say "what have you budgeted for the job" say if they say £150 and you know its a £300 job. I just politely say you budgets way off and walk away no point in being a busy fool.
