Charlotte Krenik How would I know? And what do you mean "literally"? Is there any other way you can? You can't figuratively comment. Stop using it when you don't need to. It's implied.
What I find REALLY interesting about Poppy is her playlists. Other than her playlist of her songs, there're some peculiar playlists. There's one playlist that's just one video, and that particular video seems to be some kind of hypnosis thing. The playlist is called "internet". And I'm not being lazy by not capitalizing it. The playlist title literally isn't capitalized, and the one video is called "Poppy puts you to sleep". And I'm gonna be honest, I actually got tired from watching it. I literally yawned just seconds before typing what I just typed. And I just yawned again! The video has a hypnosis spiral loop going on in the background. I remember one particular part really caught my attention. There's a part in the video where Poppy goes on saying old-fashioned Christian moral standards. I'm listening again just so I can quote her exact words. She says "God is our inspiration. Unconditional love really exists. Love for no reason. Expect nothing in return, and when you let go, it will find you. You must make peace on this planet. Love everyone. Love your mother, love your father. Love your dog," then all of a sudden it takes a sudden switch in focus, with Poppy saying "love the internet. Love your followers, love Poppy." then it suddenly switches back, saying, "Love living. Love poetry," then says "love your connection to your friends." Whether this is supposed to relate to real relationships akin to the old Christian moral beliefs, or relate to internet relationships, I can't tell. So anyways, that video was very eerie and creepy. and I found it weird that it was one video on a playlist, and that it was on the Titanic Sinclair channel. I remember I made my own private playlist that had this one song I REALLY liked some time ago, so that I could just turn on loop and have it keep on playing, and it was just that one song I really liked. Just. One. Video. And I think that's the same reason this video was the only one on a playlist. It was meant to be repeated over and over again, like slow brainwashing. The other playlist is "Everybody wants to be Poppy". It's a playlist of 4 videos: the "Everybody Wants to be Poppy" song, and 3 animated shorts. Something peculiar about the shorts is that they seemed to be so...I can't really describe it with my own words. I think the best way to describe it is through the very first dialogue that Poppy says in the first short, "Hi, I'm Poppy, and welcome to my new animated adventures." The very moment I heard that line, along with a little catchy intro sequence, I knew I was getting a familiar vibe that I felt long ago in my youth, when I spent hours on end watching TV. Then it hit me. That beginning reminded me of typical early 2000s Disney Channel and Nickelodean sitcoms. Shows like iCarly, Hannah Montana, and others. Shows that focused on idol pop stars that had little misadventures in their daily lives. And also, the animated shorts were VERY colorful. Everything seemed like it was a product of an 8 year old student in art class, with water painted rainbow backgrounds, Poppy having anthropomorphic cat ears, and each character having an associated color. Oh yeah, there were other characters, and they were as tropey as tropes could get. There was Rex, who was the typical casual yet excitable character that's always like "oh boy! what adventure are we going to have today, [insert main character's name here]?" Then there was Pho, an anthropomorphic...uh...okay I honestly forgot specifically what he was, but from what I can remember of his appearance, he basically looked like a typical Asian noodles meal. After Pho (horribly) sings a new song, the first short ends with Poppy saying "Hey gang, wanna hear my new song?" Then it goes to a typical "to be continued..." screen. Oh, also, I forget to mention that in the first episode, it's established that apparently Poppy and Rex were looking for a "magical kale shake". You can see the trend here, yeah? This is all made out to seem like a typical early 2000s kid's show. I just thought that this all should be brought to light, since these videos were tucked away in her playlists, which is a place I honestly doubt a lot people looked at.
When you said "Something is coming", and that it might get more strange, it gave me the idea that what might happen next is Poppy kind of falling apart or going crazy, then either coming back like everything is normal and nothing happened, or just disappearing completely, or being replaced by someone else. After all, that is what seems to happen to most pop stars eventually, they go crazy and start making bad dessicions, overwhelmed with all of the pressure to be perfect and desperate to stay relevant. Then, what normally happens is they just become completely irrelevant and are replaced by the next big popular celebrity, or come back like nothing ever happened.
lilttlekevin89 okay personally (and this could be wrong) but it’s possibly the blandness and fake innocence of celebrities. but also just she’s satirical I suppose
I believe poppy represents every person alive now saying she hates music yet she does music either way and how we are sooo dependent on social media and phones which she portrayed as she said if our phones r dead so are we.
Totally agree. But I'm less angry but just question: Why does one even care if a celeb couple broke up (like recently with Brad pit). There was a fucking whole page on a local newspaper about it.
They want to be able to relate to rich and famous people. It give a feeling of "They're just like me, therefore I also can become rich and famous." The news paper was pandering.
TheFan630 this is just so stupid.. Everybody can do whatever they want with their lifes. It's like if you ask someone: "why do you read a book, if the story that you are reading is about people that don't concern you?" Let people live.. everybody can waste their time however the fuck they want. Why do you even care?
I love the Pentax in the background. A friend and I actually found her mom's old Pentax the other day while we were cleaning out her garage. They're gorgeous cameras.
Vinny, all I ask of you is to please do a three in one video explaining some of the creepiest videos on RU-vid, like The Dining Room or There is Nothing, Agamemnon Counterpart, Obey the Walrus, etc.
Poppy is a genius project, made by such a clever director called Titanic. It’s such a clever detailed project that worked. But now she’s signed and she can’t escape which is literally built into the project
You missed the mocking of the sacrifice and liberalization of western culture and voting over labels. "Who should I vote for - trump or hillary - whoever is gay"
The 'Tip of my tongue' video I think shows how she wants to say something but is being controlled so much that she is not allowed to use her own words or show her true opinions. Linking to celebrities in our society.
I agree that it's a bit ridiculous to be so obsessed with the personal lives of famous people. Knowing a little bit about someone you idolize is nice, but you really don't need to know about all of their relationships. And in the case of Poppy, the mystery definitely adds to the art of the character. She's so unusual, but at the same time she's relatable. In some of her videos that I've seen, I get the feeling that she's the embodiment of the thoughts we have but don't share with anyone.
First of all, I want to say that you're really cute! I've been interested in Poppy for a long time. I do find her videos weird and kind of disconcerting, but to be quite honest, I am more interested in how pretty she is and how her style is so en pointe (except for the ribbon and sack dress monstrosity she wore in her latest video). However, I am one of those people who are interested in her personal life, about her past, present, and maybe her future. She is, after all, a celebrity in her own right. I guess that's how fans are with their idols, we just want more, more, and more. her life is probably more interesting than ours and if she becomes a star, her life will be absolutely glamorous. Af for Facebook, I am guilty of posting almost everything about my life. At least, i only post the good side and sometimes the bad side if I think anyone could relate. I think people just want to share their joy or their sorrows with other people. Because once you share it, its not just yours to bear anymore. If it's a happy thing, people would also be happy. If it's sad, well, as weird as this sounds, they will share your sadness. Like this one, I just wanted to share my thoughts and you probably won't get to read this. But at least I got it off my chest.
I dont think anyone has a completely glamorous life. No matter how much money you have or people that ador you you can still feel alone and miserable. Even people who do know you in real life can't see that.
Well, of course that's true. You can never have a really perfect life. But as they say, if you have to be sad and miserable, it's always better to do it in a luxurious mansion than in the slums at any day.
i have no interest in her personal life i found that girl videos today. this was a great discovery since i like what people call "disturbing and weird stuff" even if i don't see what's weird in Poppy's video. It's mostly art and random mockery. quite refreshing.
I'm on a journey to watch every poppy video (sans the damn long ones of her just reading the bible unless it's on autoplay and it might just be my background noise)
8:31 the mask might have been a metaphor for covering up her real self; the xylophone song was not truly "her", just a persona or "mask" she's putting on to please the higher ups.
+RU-vid Explained mate, I doubled the speed of the video "My New Song" and click-counted the hits. She did 777 hits to the xylophone. And also the numbered musical notation of the repeated melody is 4 (Fa), which is what she always use in a sentence. An annotation that links to that video actually says "song 4 u." They are geniuses, holy shit xD
Wow I love how you make your videos this is great even if it doesn't become extremely popular please do continue because it's- it's amazing I just love how you make it so easy to understand and give any other extra information we might want to look at it's-it's- beautiful 😔 beauty is in simplicity and you just made everything perfectly fit in my mind thank you
Bo88y Beretta Nick Groff from Geffen Records is her manager. She was signed to Island Records first then signed with Mad Decent Records. Besides Titanic Sinclair who worked with her in the beginning and still directs her RU-vid and her music videos, she works and writes a lot with Diplo who owns Mad Decent, Grimes ( also known as Elon Musks girlfriend), pop artist Cat Pierce and Chris Greatti from the Indy band Blame Candy. She just released a single and a video today with Diplo that has broken the iTunes top 200 in less than 24 hours and is still rising. Here's what Poppy is today. A lot different than a year ago. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gg2pS9KN28U.html
I understand her 100% , she makes the realest videos out there. But people don't understand her true meanings because of the way her videos represent her. She is amazing if you truly learn to understand her
Just found out about this. Thought I might mention that this theory fits very well with her most famous video as well, where she's saying "I'm Poppy" over and over to get famous. Pop stars become famous after repeatedly showcasing their superficial selfs as well, so those coincide nicely I guess.
I've been watching Poppy ever since I saw her play live at VidCon in 2012, before any of this happened, and it's been an interesting journey to say the least. It's strange to see her suddenly get all of this attention after all these years.
