Preserving a very important bike in Motocross history, Brady Brandwood finds a 1978 CR125 in really rough condition, and restores it to an amazing version of the original MX racer.
My first bike was a 77 Elsinore 125 back in 1989. I was 12 yrs old and learned all fundamentals of riding on that bike. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
One of the best Christmas presents from my parents. A left over 1976 CR125M. One of the most reliable dirt bikes known to mankind, you couldn’t kill it. By 1981 it just sat in my cellar with a worn sprocket, broken tensioner and in desperate need of a rebuild. In 1983 I sold it for a $100. Those were the most carefree, happy years of my life. Thank you for the video.
Here from Leon, but man old 70's dirt bikes bring back a lot of memories. My friend's father was a certified Ossa mechanic and went to enduro races when I was just a kid in the 70's and early 80's. 1980 he had a new Husqvarna 430 with a metal tank. Wish I could go back in time.
That is awesome I had a 1976, 125 with a 175 conversion head. I still have awesome pictures of this bike in action. You have done a amazing job bringing that back. I wish you were my neighbor. We’d have a lot of fun. thank you very much and take care
It'd be cool to see what the seller thought of seeing this beaut coming back to her former glory. Id be so happy to have sold it to the right person...and that person here was obviously you!
I love this! I had a 1976 CR125 that I loved and cherished, until I met a girl. Sadly, I had to sell it to pay for my Junior prom in 1980. I wish I still had it though. The girl is long gone, by my desire for my old bike is still strong. My Africa Twin will have to suffice for now.
Hi Brady. Nice restoration. My first mx bike was a 74 cr125m in 1977 I also had 1977 red one. Recently I finally finished my xl75 project. Love doing old Honda projects. Great content 👌
Man I just love watching these videos! I have taken quite a liking to old bikes! Anything from an xr75 to a CR500. And you do such a wonderful job restoring all of these bikes
Came for Leon, sticking around for your other miscellaneous videos! Great job on this! I love the voice over on your videos. You have a soothing voice. Best of luck to you, and Merry Christmas!
I truly enjoyed and appreciate the detailed voiceover, the attention to detail in telling the story was on par with the detail of the restoration. That is rare, and the combination of the work, the audio and visual story made this a wonderful experience watching this neglected old bike become beautiful and useful. Thank you.
Great job! I had the exact same bike bought brand new from a local Honda shop in 1980 that had left over 1978 and 1977 models. It was my first real dirt bike. Great memories.
My dad has a 1976 RM250A. 1976 was the first year that Suzuki added the 250cc bike to the RM lineup. I’m torn between doing a complete restoration or leaving it as is. I personally like it as is. My dad raced AMA district 37 in Southern California for one year then stored it.
Absolutely beautiful restoration, and the film quality was amazing. The still shots showing the condition of the engine before being cleaned up were stunning. Instantly subscribed and looking forward to watching more, cheers from Australia 🇦🇺👍
Nice work man. You are a craftsman. I stop short of doing seat covers. They are a nightmare for me. Wow full motor build too? Beast. I love these builds!
Made one good looking bike. Good job. I started MX in 1980 to 1993 and loved every race. lol. In 93 I raced MX, enduros and cross country’s. In 94 I retired from MX and raced in the woods for 10 more years. Thanks for sharing your time and videos with us and me.
Just finished watching each of your restorations and just wanna say that you done a brilliant job on each of them. Really hope to see more restorations in the future.
Awesome Job - well done ! i know how hard these restos can be- i also restored a DT125 MX and an RD 125 DX to kind of new condition - the sound and smell alwaya makes me feel much younger (so i thought) - but at least: a happier man ! keep Riding it !
These Honda Elsinore bikes were the talk of the town back in the 1970s they could really burn up the trails➡ Nice Resto man you deserve a Trophy for bring this one back from the dead 🏆
Wow i remember every nut bolt spring on that bike and its been 40 years since i said goodbye to her. i had one as a kid, and used to clean it up like new after riding it. my dad wanted me to keep it spotless. Great job thanks for posting.
That was excellent. The story behind the bike, the restoration and the quality video/editing etc. The finished product is sensational - love that red color. Now I want one too! Very good work.
Guy Douglas Many thanks for the positive feedback! It was a seriously fun project, even tracking down the hard to find parts! Now I’m looking around for another one to do. Many thanks for watching! ✌️✌️✌️
My friend had a 77 CR 125 Elsinore it was a handful to us in the old days. I remember it stood up on me almost looped it. I found a 79 CR250 Elsinore I'm going to start to rebuild. Had it for years but got the bug to get the project jump started. Thanks that is a very fine build bud👍.
Was on my way to the Honda dealer in the fall of 78 to buy one of these new. Then...seen an add in a magazine for the new 79 RM 125 for $995.00 OTD and ended up buying that instead. No real regrets. The RM was a great bike but NO top end speed! Found out later on that it had a rev limiter. It ran forever tho. I wonder to this day what that Honda would of been like had I bought it. Beautiful bikes!
keeping the postal companies alive - lol great revival of that old Honda. great to see those old bikes come back to life. so many have been lost over the years, kinda sad.
Good job. The thing ,since covid everyone wants an arm and a leg for old projects like these. You were lucky and got it before people got greedy. In Australia you would have paid over $1000 for a bike in that cond. So for me I guess I won't be doing any restoration projects anymore.
Hi Brady, What an inspiration your restoration video is for me, I have a 1977 model I imported from the U.S. (I’m in England), and intend to attempt to restore it as close to original as I can. Unfortunately parts are scarce over here, so it may take some time!. Thanks for the hints and tips you include in your videos, you do a fantastic job Sir!.
Yeah Don it hurt mine too. Was great to clean it back up and get it running again. I hate to see these awesome bikes rust away. Thank you for watching.
Beautiful job and video!! I own and a 78 model also. I have raced my mine in the colorado vintage motocross series and some other AHRMA events now that I moved back to NY. It is a really fun bike to ride and race!
Had that bike in 1977 was a FMF out of the crate racer costed $1,300 came with all the trick stuff pipe had read sunburst and bigger carburetor FMF out of the crate racer
My father bought me a 77 CR125 back in about 81 or so. I was a tall kid at 11 or 12, but that was WAY too much bike for a beginner. I'm lucky I didn't get killed on that thing! lol
AMAZING,stunning beauty,i miss removing my head n barrel on my air cooled two smoker field/trail/dirt bikes ,giving them a polish and just messing around,i miss the 70s and 80s when thing's were more civilized and simpler.
I had one of these when I was a young teen...it was green and silver though...I'm thinking it was a '75....I bought mine for $160, it didn't have rear brakes, so I learned to downshift at every stop....it had the same grass fire starter exhaust pipe though
I have a Honda XL500s (PD01) in my living room. My spouse is giving me hell about it, but I keep telling her; "Honda is my friend, you take both of us, or none of us."
i had a 78 also, had to be a good rider to keep that motor singing, it a narrow, peaky powerband. i also had a 78 rm 125 and i found it much easier to ride fast because the engine had a much wider and more torquey motor compared to the cr
Yeah you are so right,… the power is like a light switch, either on or off. I’m surprised it took Honda so long to update their 125. Adding a reed cage definitely made a huge difference.
Hey , you remember the 1965 Hillbillys. My husband has one for sale. And 1 for parts . The company says they only made red ones, but my husband has 2 black ones. Need to sell soon
