Fun Fact - SUV sales saved Porsche and Lamborghini financially. I hate it too but I have to admit, the C8 design language kinda works with the SUV shape in this concept render.
Fords product/marketing team are a bunch of bozos for thinking they had to carry the Mustang name over to an electric SUV instead of just calling it a Mach-E.
Unless you've been living under a rock, these super-SUV ARE 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥. Starting off with the Porsche SUV, then the Lambo Uranus, then that new Ferrari SUV
@@Thumper68in what world are you living in, because in the world I live and where we actually read financial statements, and don't just make things up, the Urus is 60%+ of lambo sales.... It prints money. This is the problem with normal people, you guys just make stuff up, when these companies are literally legally required to disclose this stuff in financial reports which you should be reading because stocks are how the whole economy works.... Instead of just going to the investor relations page of a company and just looking it up, you just make it up to make yourself feel better
@@Thumper68 they sell well there the choice of I want to gift my wife a car so she ignores my issues and doesn't divorce me cayenne's and Macans are 80% of Porsche's sales
Thats what we would love to happen, for car enthusiasts we will all hate on it because its called corvette but we are a minority. The majority will buy it just because of the name like the mustang suv.
I hate how American Trucks/SUV culture has ruined most of the auto-industry, and by that a market dominated by overly expensive Trucks/SUV's. I loath this with every cell in my body.
I hate how people like you cry about this stuff but you never spend any of your money. SUV and truck buyers actually spend money buying cars regularly, so the manufacturers cater to them. How insane would it be if the main car being sold with SUVs and trucks but they still focused on catering to you people who never buy cars. And I read the investor reports. I see how much you guys buy. Screw you guys. You guys cry the loudest, and give the least money. Suv buyers actually buy NEW cars, instead of cry on forums all day, before going back to their old 2000s civic.

@@Tential1 Most of them trade in for newer unneeded models every 2-3 years. They literally trade-in before the vehicle is even paid off. Horrible practice as all you are doing is accumulating negative equity. We’re smart enough not to do foolish behavior like that an demand a better product to take place of what we currently have, which hasn’t really happened since the 80s-90s, again in mid 2000s, and finally over the past 2-4 years bit most people have lost a passion for said vehicle types. Being drowned in a sea of limited options will do that to people. Past that front again we clearly made the better financial decisions as our vehicles actually appreciated overtime, unlike trucks or SUV’s.
The economy dictates what people drive. I live in the UK. We've had a cost of living crisis going on for around a year now and I've noticed the amount of SUV's on our roads steadily decreasing since it started. People are switching back to driving hatchbacks. Same thing happened when the 2008 recession hit.
That’s the best part and why this is so great. Anything that pisses off the cut from the cloth average Corvette owner and makes them stop huffing their own fucking hot farts for a second is just **chef’s kiss**

People dont hate Cayenne because its not called 911. It would get 3x worse backlash than the suv Mustang, cause 911 are supposed to be lightweight sportscars.

About four years ago, there was a magazine cover that had a four door C7 Corvette that looks way better than the Porsche panamera to be honest,a C7 or C8 would rock the car industry if they would make a four door version.
I have never owned a crossover, and probably never will, but that crazy C8 inspired digital render in the thumbnail actually looks pretty cool. I mean, I know it would never look like that in real life, but if it came with an v8, a 6-speed manual, and selectable four-wheel drive, I would definitely be interested! ✌️😎👍
They make more money on SUVs for now. They pay less tariffs on basically a fattened sports car and all the while sticking more money in their pockets. Follow the money. The same goes for electric cars. One of the main reasons they are trying to shove these things down our throats.
Sporty SUVs make perfect sense to me because people love sports cars but they’re so not practical or really good for daily driving in year-round conditions, which is what most people need a car to be able to do so these sporty SUV is kind of take a lot of boxes and when people buy cars they’re not looking for a car that is the best at one thing they’re usually want something that’s pretty good at everything and that’s what these sporty SUVs are And that’s why they are the bread and butter for companies like Porsche and Lamborghini.
I never have an SUV and I never would get one in my lifetime, don't get me wrong but it is not my preferred style of car. I love sporty sedans and the Corvette SUV doesn't make any sense to me, there is a HUGE market niche for all kinds of SUVs in the US and why, for God's sake, someone wants to build a Corvette SUV. It diminishes the idea of sports cars in this particular case and, from my perspective is extremely dumb and senseless.
Porsche, Ferrari, and Lamborghini didnt use the name of a top selling car to help sell there SUVs. They gave them original names and they sold well on there own. American companies dont trust there manufacturer name to carry that weight enough for the model to sell well on it's own.
A Corvette SUV is like calling the Cayenne a 911. Porsche is a brand, Corvette is a model. Corvette could do a GTC4 Lusso with the LT6 and rear mounted DCT...but a 2+2 would make it a Camaro.
Well if by high performance. You mean high horsepower. They did that. The Cadillac Escalade cts-v. Although that thing is insanely expensive. Six figures. I want to say it's $120 or maybe even $160? Actually now that I think about it I want to say it's about a 180k.
@@SaotomeNoBaka the escalade is a full size SUV though, im talking about gm making something smaller and sportier with luxuries that would make it stand out from the rest of the gm lineup. something to compete with german midsize suvs such as the rsq8 or the cayenne turbo.
@@watermelon2624 Ah! Okay. That would be dope. Honestly I wouldn't mind an SUV that looked like that thumbnail David is using for the video. Yeah I know it looks like a Vette. But I would be completely down for it if it was all-wheel drive. I wouldn't mind of it was powered by the same plant as the C7 ZO6 variant or of that pushes the price up too high a beefier version of the NA LT would be nice too. Hell they could even toss the LSA in it from the CTS-V caddy. The car not the SUV. I'd be happy with that too.
Why not? I mean at least in Europe, Corvette used to be it’s own brand. A one model brand is just empty. A corvette suv to expand the lineup is pretty neat. It’s like a supercar but suv. that’s great
Yep Dave, it's about the money bruh. Though the sight of a Corvette SUV on the road would be pretty inticing and exciting. Hell, I even designed, in fun, a four door C7 Corvette sedan, to compete with the Porsche Panamera and the former Aston Martin Rapide. It'd probably be a limited production model though, IMHO.
I’m sure they will have different trim levels just like the Corvette with different engine options they’ll probably have the turbocharge V6 and the base model and then offer the supercharge V8 and the higher-end one
Not gonna lie, I first thought it was weird that they'd be doing this. But eventually, I started to come to terms and realize that this is probably a cooler thing to attempt at. It'll be a practical, sporty SUV to rival against the Urus and other performance rated SUVs like the Urus and Q8. It'll be very interesting to see the Corvette nameplate on a raised roof, but I genuinely think that eventually me and others will get used to it fast and probably like it a lot. I'm looking forward to hearing more about the SUV and the official reveal, if it comes that is.
I don’t see an issue. From what I’ve heard GM is trying to split the corvette line into its own brand separate from Chevrolet. I’m personally exited to see what that entails in the future. As long as the SUV is rear/awd with a V8 I think it will end up being a pretty awesome car. A ZO6 version with the flat plane crank out of a C8 Z would be epic.
Thoses compagny are out of there mind and they Wonder why they don't sell car like Tesla; First don't stole/tarnish the name of your Sport Car and Put them on 4 door S.U.V ! Pfff
Eh I mean IF they do it and you hate it, don't buy it. If chevy selling some lamborgini urus look-a-like means more money gets thrown at the sports brand then I'm all for it. Porsche basically saved the 911/718 because they could supplement their income by selling audi suvs to rich people so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I know GM/Porsche/Ferrari/every other automaker isn’t actually trying to get my money with one of these crossovers. They probably know I want a car which doesn’t exist…..affordable, simple, fun….the closest car is a new Miata. But I’m not going to give up any of my projects, or my affordable daily drivers for a car payment and a car I won’t want to modify. So my opinion does not matter to them…..however….corvette SUV buyers will care when I laugh about their crossover they have parked at the car show with an American flag eagle livery on the hood. And I am pro-laughing at all these “sport” crossovers that amount to little more than being a worse minivan for the purpose they’re being used. Shuffling kids on iPads around. Maybe I’m just too old school, but if someone asks me to draw a sportscar, it doesn’t have 4 doors, it’s not taller than it is wide, and it definitely doesn’t have car seats in the back. Screw the boring sea of black gray and white crossovers, if they build something that makes me smile, maybe I’d go visit a dealership now and again.
Ford did the same thing with the Mustang. Didn't agree with that one either. I wish they would just use a different name. Rebrand / reinvent the trailer blazer SS.
I work in Sunny Isles Beach, FL (Miami) and when I say I see 5 Urus' everytime I head to lunch, it isn't hyperbole. Although, that said, I usually also see as many Rolls', Bentleys, G Wagons and 911s, hahaha. It is unreal how many Urus' there are.
The Porsche and Lamborghini suv make sense because they are brand manufacturers. A corvette suv makes no sense because the corvette is a chevy model, not a whole ass brand.
How to grenade a brand in two easy steps 1:have a valuable brand 2:make said car model that has loyalty an electric suv or car that may be fast but won't sell nor make money due to construction costs
@@0Heeroyuy01 It won't be trash. GM has some of the best engineers in the world now. With the Corvette name, you know it will be fast and have some of the best handling characteristics of all manufacturers, including Porsche and Lamborghini. There is world-class brand equity in the Corvette nameplate now. Might as well use it.
I'm not surprised in the least. Like you said, a bunch of other sports car/supercar brands have been doing it with huge success so why not corvette? I could see plenty of demand for it.
This makes total sense. The old guys who buy Corvettes need something easier to get in and out of. It'll sell like hotcakes if they throw in a pair of Nike Air Monarchs.
To be honest if they do it right i wouldnt mind. They would have to make it similar to the Trackhawk, like AWD big and comfy. They shouldn't go for the track oriented RWD version, just a big ol boat cruiser thats fast off the line and that's about it.
Smart move for Corvette production, for Chevrolet would be, to amle it pracical as possible while carrying the spirit of Corvette. First of all make front overhang shorter, and move engine a little backward longer nose [with I-6] so that it has more weight in the rear axle and practical room in the cabin.
Dad/car guy here - I’d buy the Corvette SUV mainly because I have young kids to drive around and need the space. I currently daily a Charger Hellcat. Limited parking space means I’ve gotta get an “everything” car…even though that truly doesn’t exist. Corvette SUV is a compromise.
@@DTS1wastaken hellcat durangos are hard to find in my market. I’m actually quite happy with my Charger Hellcat. And even if I’m cross shopping a Corvette SUV, one that’s comparable with the horsepower of my Hellcat is gonna be $150k+. It doesn’t make much sense to get into one of those cars when I’m close to having my Charger paid off. Plus I’ll likely go twin turbo and build up my car after it’s paid off, so that’s appealing.
I HOPE this SUV is gonna flop BIG time. Why can´t they just come up with a new name instead of trying to cash in on the name of a well known sports-car ? This is just a cash grab like the Mach-E (Nope. i will not call it Mustang)
We dont need these it’s blowing up peoples egos on the road nobody can drive like a human anymore everyone has to drive like they’re the race car driver here.
What would make more sense to me would be if they took the Cadillac Escalade-V engine and added more power since Corvette is GMs flagship model and the V could not be better performing. An option B would be to take the Escalade-V engine and leave it like it is but make the Corvette SUV way lighter and better handling.
David, the logic that GM is doing what Porsche did years ago with the Cayenne, Macan, etc. because of financial reasons doesn’t really make sense, because just as you stated Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari, etc. did that because they had no alternative vehicles to fit the demographic that normally buys SUVs/Mini vans. The problem with the logic is that Chevrolet and to a further extent GM, already make SUVs to fit those demographics. Now if we want to get into the specifics of them needing a recognizeable brand name for a new performance SUV, they could have easily just have revived the Blazer SS nameplate. Now if you’re rebuttal is that they need a performance car nameplate to use, well they just killed the Camaro, so why not just use that nameplate for it instead of tarnishing the Corvette name. I don’t know what Ford’s numbers are with the Mach E, but I hardly ever see any, so my assumption is that a brand that already sells SUVs is likely not going to do to well destroying their reputable sports car names just to try and eek out a few more sales. At least from my perspective, it doesn’t seem like it’s going nearly as well as Ford expected it to and certainly not to the same success as the boutique brands like Porsche, Lamborghini, and Ferrari since those brands literally have no other choices for SUV type vehicles.
I won't lie. If it looks like the thumbnail that you used for this video. I can't deny that it does a pretty cool in my opinion. However I think they should totally not call it a corvette. As others have said either a Tahoe SS or something along those lines. We already have the Cadillac Escalade CTS-V. Might as well shrink it down a little bit give it a kind of sporty look to it like that thumbnail you used. Call it the Chevy Tahoe SS. If they maybe wanted to save some money they could perhaps use the blueprints they already have set aside for the c7 engine but just in this new suv. Give it the option of a good transmission and all-wheel drive? Hell yeah. Yes please.
It would sell to buyers wanting a C8 Corvette but need a usable rear seat and storage. Ford used the same marketing plan successfully with the Mustang Mach E. Like Ford. They understand that most regular vette and Stang owners will not purchase either car unless they already drive a Mustang or Corvette coup but needs another vehicle for the family. Unlike the Mach E being a full EV. I'm guessing the Corvette Cross-8 (Crossover) will likely be some type of PHEV to help Fleet mpg numbers.
At this point, I just have a bingo board of sports cars... When a company destroys a sports cars brand identity by transferring it's name to an SUV, instead of just coming up with a new name because apparently my generation can't be creative, I mark it on my bingo board.
My problem with the Cayenne/Urus argument is that neither Porsche nor Lamborghini used a name that already existed and had measurable brand equity. The Porsche didn't call their SUV a "911 Trail-cross" or something dumb. Lambo did not call theirs a "Countach Sports-trek" or something even more idiotic. They gave them their own damn names.
