As an ELCA pastor, I appreciate these videos because I can learn about different streams of Lutheranism through an authentic, authoritative lens. It's really hard to be in conversation with pastors from the other Lutheran denominations and even access them, perhaps due the confessional vs missional tension I have observed.

This whole series is a really wonderful primer on American Lutheran history. Quite an education for me. I enjoyed it as an ex-Lutheran.

Please all confessional Lutherans come back to Germany, we really need you here reforming our current "Lutheran" Landeskirche 😅 and we have cool churches 😌

+ASK ESO -- Just make sure that if such a thing were ever to occur to bring back their progeny to America, and not just the Midwest where I believe is/was the heaviest concentration of German Lutherans but the Northeast too. It won't be overnight and instead take a few generations, but in the present case better that lightning strikes twice (i.e., German [and Scandinavian] migration like centuries ago) than not at all. I'm of Cuban descent and Spaniard ancestry but I'd go with German as my next pick if I had a choice. Let's just say I have certain affinity with Germany spanning decades, and most of my favorite bands from across two or three music genres are from there (too many to mention but a quick glance at the "Playlists" or "Channels" section of my You[Lose] channel will bear that out). I hope no Irish folks were reading what I just wrote. I love Irish women and most probably have Celtic roots and lineage seeing what part of Spain my father's father is originally from before immigrating to the island of Cuba way back in the days. :)

Boy am I glad I ran across this. There is a very old church named Zion which was the church in which I found one of my ancestor families records. It seems (as best as I can figure out) as the church were Lutherans, Reformed and Calvanist German immigrants worshiped together. This would have been in the 1850s and then in the 1880s, the Lutherans broke off and formed their own congregation and joined with the new LCMS. This first church morphed into a United Church of Christ and presently seems to be accepting of everything from abortion to LGBT community, female pastors- no law - just grace I guess. Anyway my interest has been trying to sort out how they worshiped together as long as they did. And then I tried to do some on-line research into what their various Germanic States like Prussia worshiped and learned that there was something called a Union where the Gov head had Lutherans and Reformed worship together. Anyway, this has been a real learning experience! Oh by the way, this is in St. Joseph, MO.

Zinzendorf of the Moravians called Muhlenberg "that black robe from Halle" Muhlenberg held the Lutheran line against the Moravians and Zinzendorf.

does anyone know of a lutheran synod that is in between the LCMS and the ELCA? I love orthodox theology and traditional liturgy and worship but am not a fan of the social conservatism.

The american lutheran churches are really confusing. Can you say something about the differences between you, the ELCA, and the LCMS. And I really wonder, what is your opinion about the worldwide LWF.

Confessionalism is inconsistant with the Sola Scriptura and the unity of Christ's Church. In other words confessionalism breeds sectarianism. We see that in this video where confessionalism is more or less equated with true Lutheranism. Confessionalism is not the same as acknowledging historic confessions. It is the idolatry of confessions. Lutheranism has never been a single stream.

Yes, me too! Because I am a lutheran too, and my church is member of LWF like the ELCA. I really want to know the brief defferences.

+Nicholas Cornor -- I suspect it will be very cordial and mild-mannered (like he normally is and that's a good thing) if he ever attempts to do a video solely on the ELCA or some comparison video. If so I hope he doesn't shy away from calling a spade a spade while also taking an "easy breezy" approach. As for calling a spade or spade (re: telling it like it is!), you and others might want to check out the *Exposing The ELCA* website run by Dan Skogen. I find him going over the top in a few places but as a whole it's a good resource to get the dope on a myriad of uber-liberal and heretical nonsense coming out of that denomination. (While there are many other places on the Internet detailing what is wrong with the ELCA, you might want to somehow try to obtain an article entitled *_"The ELCA at 20 Years: Flunking the Theological Test"_* by Carl E. Braaten and from 2008. I believe it first appeared in *Dialog: A Journal of Theology* -- which I get access to from the databases of my alma mater -- and still worth reading over a decade later. Sadly I don't think it appears anywhere online for free viewing other than one having to pay to download it.) www.exposingtheelca.com/

You mean uber-liberal like Jesus!? Telling us we are all worthy and to share all we own with those who don’t have and not judge them!!?!

Could you make a video regarding Apostolic Succession, or how to justify Lutheranisms rampant modern division (There are more than 5 different Lutheran bodies in the US alone). I am asking because these two issues are the core things that are forcing me to question my faith. Why would God allow the faithful to become so divided, but allow the eastern Church to have a united faith?

Greek and Russian Orthodox have been in schism since 2018. Russian Orthodox and Old Believers even longer. Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, and Church of the East longer still.
