(BTW the game is Project Diva F.) I only know what Project Diva F is like and trust me, if you don't like pushing buttons you might not like it. It's a rythm game where you push the PS3 controller buttons at certain times to earn points. If you have bad eye-hand coordination you are not going to succeed. xD

The best voice sampling I have heard on a cartridge game is definitely Star Wars: Rogue Squadron for the Nintendo 64. When I rented and played this game years ago, I could swear the voice samplings were on a CD.
Impossible Mission on the C64 had pretty good speech samples back in 1984. It's not crystal clear, but it's pretty good for a machine that had a grand total of 64K of RAM.
Since nobody else spoke up, Sinistar has the single most important voice samples in video game history, the game was sighted as inspiration to several horror game directors, and was also featured in the video game art exhibit at the Smithsonian.
In Galactic Pinball for the virtual boy, it says "welcome to space world! Let's go" in the beginning. It sounds so clear, and it's impressive for the virtual boy. That is my number one.
You know, there's something strangely endearing about that rendition of Star-Spangled Banner. It's kind of like listening to a kindergarten class sing it.
Bad Dudes on NES. After clearing a boss stage, you can hear a shocking voice of I'M BAD! which almost gives me a heart attack... turn down the volume is a must.
Does anyone remember those green plastic game things for teenage mutant hero/ninja turtles? The dark green one was like the underwater level in the 8bit turtles game, but there was a lime green one which boasted, "splinter speaks" on the cover. I remember it saying, "Cowabunga!" and possibly "Shell-shock!", and then it bipped and beep-bi-bi-beeps at you as you seizure your way through the approaching nasties. Ah the memories ...rubbish ones, but memories nontheless

For 1986 the national anthem bit is actually pretty damn good. The main problem is the key. It's like they took someone off the streets who has no experience in singing and forced them to sing. Pretty fucking good for the time though.
The "auto-tuned" sound is from the fact that the audio on Dubble Dibble was likely compressed with a scheme called Linear Predictive Coding, which was used for early speech synthesizers such as those in the Speak-n-Spell. LPC could intelligibly reproduce the human voice but gave it a tinny, characteristically "8-bit" timbre.
When I was a kid, and if memory serves right, the intellivision had an expansion that made games talk. Or was it the coleco vision? Well one of the two had it.
I am so glad to see you include skate or die 2. No one ever mentions this game. Mostly because it's 'not very good.' I hated it as a kid because I traded my Strider for it from a friend who swore it was good. I never even got past the first level and would always skip to the half pipe. However, this game has turned into a huge guilty pleasure for me and is one of the few games that I have absolutely NO guilt about using save states and actually recommend it. It's very strange and pretty epic.
I loved the voice in Space Megaforce for the SNES. I will never forget it. "Presented by Toho", "Scatter Shot", etc. By comparison, the voice in the early Thunder Force games for Genesis/MD were horribly funny.
to be fair, on number five the peace sign was also known as the victory sign so when he says "fight" ("bfhxt"), it kind of fits in with him wanting victory
Oh my gawd Rinry, .. Double Dibble. It's sort of hard to un-hear the R in Dribble since I've somehow picked it out. But I made myself stop and come back and attempt to hear it with virgin ears and.. When you first hear it as dibble it is hysterical. While this game doesn't have the NES' most abundant supply of voice sampling, I have quoted the "Double D(r)ibble" for years. I love it and it may be my favorite non-bad ass voice sample of all time.
