I ate a Mediterranean style diet for 15 years at which point osteoarthritis exploded in my left hip & knee. I suffered for 5 years thinking there was no solution then out of pure desperation I tried a low carb/Keto way of eating and like magic, I lost the 30 excess pounds I was carrying and 75% of my arthritis pain resolved in 3 months. I went from not able to walk 9 holes of golf to 10 hour hikes in the mountains with 1000+m of elevation. It took 2 years to get to 95% resolution of my symptoms and at 61 I'm looking forward to the rest of my life instead of dreading it. Thank you Dr. Berg and many others!
@@ivanmatusic5540 Incorrect because I had lost that same 30 lbs a couple of years before eating that same Med. diet but limiting caloric intake and it had no effect on my levels of arthritic pain or any of the other nagging issues I was experiencing. The diet made all the difference.
Diet did the magic by lowering Insulin Resistance which is associated with Arthritis.I intend to know whether you had Osteoporosis only or Osteoporosis superimposed on Rheumatoid Arthritis. What were your RF and anti-CCP levels? Have Insulin Resistance tests been done? Blessed be.
I have said this before, I am 70 years old have had arthritis since I was10 years old I have seen doctors, specialists, and professers, no body spoke to me about diet or fasting and I suffered all those years, until about 5 years ago when I followed Dr Bergs advice and since then I have been 95% better , no pain and my life and wellbeing is now very good, thanks to Dr Berg.
Are u take it metroxetato?all this60 years since u been 10 years..feel happy for you ur not in pain I just diagnosed 2 months ago with arthritis ..good bless you
The reality is, what works for one does not work for another! YOU have to figure out what foods makes your condition(s) worse! Listen to your body when you eat, do you get bloated, does your pain gets worse, do you feel latargic etc. Eliminate what your body doesn't like and see how that works for you! EVERYBODY IS DIFFERENT! Different bloodtypes Different body types Different medical conditions Different allergies etc. I have done so much research that I became majorly confused, so I just started this process, writing down everything I eat and how did my body react. I believe this is the best way to figure out YOUR body!
Right. He's even going over the arthritis big wigs with his advice...which isn't necessarily theirs...I love his honesty. That's why u know he's truthful. Rare in the medical world lately.
Whenever there’s a mass media _call to action_ that all manner media agrees upon (pop-culture influencer rhetoric _included,_ and so on), it is indeed _always_ a good idea to do the opposite. Thank You! And thank you for the opportunity to mention this.
Sharing Dr Berg notes on this video! Foods to avoid for arthritis: • Fruits • Nuts (except walnuts) • Beans • Whole grains • Sugar • Refined grains • Trans fats • Hydrogenated foods • Seed oils • Canned foods (except sardines or cod liver) • Powdered protein • High-oxalate foods It’s typically recommended to avoid eggs, red meat, and dairy if you have arthritis. However, it’s important to understand that grain-fed animals have a very different omega-6 to omega-3 ratio than organic grass-fed, pasture-raised, or wild-caught fish and animals. Organic grass-fed whole milk kefir or organic grass-fed raw milk cheese may also be better choices than typical dairy products. The best foods for arthritis: • Wild-caught fatty fish • Seafood • Pasture-raised organic eggs • Fermented vegetables (especially cabbage) It’s also important to add intermittent fasting to your diet plan. It’s not just about what you eat but the frequency you eat that’s important in getting rid of arthritis. Thank you Dr Berg! 😺👍
I am 67 years young. All that I can say is WOW, WOW WOW! I DON'T WANT ARTHUR'S PAIN ( AS MY ELDERS USED TO call arthritis). I want to always feel good and pain free as much as possible. Help is on the way. Thanks Doc.

After 20+ years of arthritis , widespread inflammation, heart disease now and a history of insulin resistance , first signs manifested in early twenties , the keto intermittent fasting is helping reduce these problems. Less arthritis pain , weight down to 14% body fat and better mental alertedness. Now I will focus on eating more specifically the recommendations of this helpful video . Much appreciated , thanks .
It's extremely difficult to eat healthy. It's so much information out there. Then you have to figure out what works best for you. Trial and error could go on for years before you figure out what to do. I've been trying to eat better, but it's always something new that makes me second guess what I was doing.
No it is not! You are using it as an excuse because you are addicted to sugar, ie carbs. Not your fault, this is the plan of the food and drug industries. Use Dr Berg and numerous other Drs on here to educate yourself.
I disagree. You'll hear a lot of opinions including from experts but IMO the default position must always be sufficient fat and protein on a natural food diet. If you avoid all hightly processed foods + seed oils and stick to natural, whole foods you'll solve 90% of your problems.
Bone broth it helps in forming and repairing bones .bone is rich in nutrients such as calcium and magnesium, all of which work to strengthen bones ,it s easy to prepare ,bone broth only needs an abundant amount of bones ,a little vinegar ,à large amount of water, and a lot of patience 🙂 cooking on low heat to enjoy a good taste.
If a person has 2-4 conditions, getting a list of anything that doesn't offend one condition is difficult. Coconut oil might be nice for arthritis but it's bad for heart patients. I had a diet of organic fruit and grains and it was killing me with gout and osteo-arth. I was bathing my body in sugars but it all sounded good on paper!
He's RIGHT, he's right, he's right. 4 days fasting OR carnivore and almost ALL my inflammation is gone. I can walk, steps and even climb a ladder which is a daunting task while inflammation is in my body. I'm nearly back to riding again now that I know I'm not permanently broken. More fasting, carnivore while not fasting and I've almost gotten my real life back. It's way too bad that I had to be nearly 60 to learn how to eat. My whole life, my body screamed for this relief. But NO... I had to listen to the professionals. Small meals, frequently, food pyramid yada yada yada. My body knew since I was a child it wanted farm fats and meat. I wasted my life not listening to my body. THANK YOU DR BERG AND DR JASON FUNG.
@imhappy83 nuts give my stupid body inflammation. :( fully tested, 4 day fast ruined with testing nuts. Even soaked and peeled... I've been isolating foods off and on for 20 years now.
Try serrapeptase. It's a silk worm enzyme. I used it to completely cure my carpal tunnel in my wrist. Just take it on an empty stomach. It repairs damaged scare tissue. The same scar tissue that's worn down between joints. The same scar tissue that 'doctors' claim can't be repaired.
Took You Advice on Turmeric, have been drinking a big mug of turmeric and ginger tea, industrial strength, every morning for one month now, have noticed two amazing things; 1. a lump alongside my left tricep was approx 1.4 inches long and .5 inches thick, tubular, and now it shrunk, very quickly to .6 inches long and .25 inches thick, don't know what is is really, but it is shrinking quickly. 2. this sounds insane but, when I go out on the deck and now mosquito season the bites were always nasty swollen and itchy, but now the mosquitos barely bite and the bites fade within hours not really itchy. so unsure this could be attributable to turmeric and ginger or maybe I m off menu now. So THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR EXPERTISE AND HARD WORK, YOU ARE SINCERELY APPRECIATED !!!
Awesome 👏 🎉🎉🎉thanks for sharing! I’m also wondering about mosquito bites. I’m attracting many less mosquitoes than before and the sting is not nearly as bad as it was before keto.
Some people with extreme arthritis do miraculously well on a carnivore diet. It's similar to water fasting in that all the usual arthritis-aggravating foods are eliminated. However, on the carnivore diet you can thrive. Humans evolved over millions of years on a mostly meat-based diet. Agriculture is a very new concept for humans. Chicken is very high in the amino acid Taurine which has been shown in recent research to have longevity benefits.
There is also a traditional remedy that treat joint pain ,we take a quantity of rue seeds we put it in a bowl of water until a mixture is formed then it is applied to the affected joints in a circular motion for a period of not less than 10 minutes, and its oil can be used by placing it in a pot and raising it on the fire until it warms up and applying it to the affected area.
I'm surprised you didn't mention avoiding the nightshade family. All are bad for arthritis. White potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, okra, eggplant. My arthritis improved dramatically when I eliminated them from my diet.
I've might said that in several comments before, but I still think that both turmeric & ginger root are the greatest foods ever for any bone probs. I actually almost have non because of these 2 root veggies. Thanks for the info Dr Berg 🌸
@@UniversalPatriots Ginger works well in curries, however another DB follower in a recent video suggested finely chopped fresh root when you brew coffee in a Cafetiere, without milk or sugar. Tastes brilliant IMHO. I was looking to consume more as I understand it helps develop stomach acid. HTH.

Also niacinamide supplement.... one of my parents had a hip replacement and the other had a knee replacement.... not long into my 40’s I started having hip pain every time I ran or if I slept on my side.... I was limping for days after runs... I read a Suzanne sommers book where she interviewed various doctors about natural solutions to common issues... one of the doctors recommended niacinamide supplementation for knee or hip pain due to arthritis and said it would take probably 4 months to work... I didn’t want surgery but wanted to run without pain so figured what could it hurt.... it literally took 4 months of supplementing niacinamide until my hip pain went away... I was able to resume running and side sleeping without hip pain.... In the years since this discovery I have noticed hip pain comes back if I stop taking it.... I consider myself a bio hacker with supplements and after high dosage d3 I consider niacinamide my #2 supplement
I eat sauerkraut and grass fed Greek yogurt daily along with pasture raised chicken and eggs ... I'm 67 and doing great. Thanks Dr Berg for your excellent work.
Two years ago I had a blood test done to find out my vitamin deficiencies, if any. I was low in vitamin D3 and also blood test showed I had Rheumatoid Arthritis with a marker of 34 (normal 14). I was supposed to see the Reumathologist but never got to it, didn't want to start taking prescription meds. I upped my Vitamin D3 to 4000 UI at least 4 days a week and consume very little dairy (this was a challenge). Had a blood test done about a month ago and to my doctors surprise my markers were 20, 14 less than2 years ago. This is a big deal since I am 59 years young. I also had parathyroid problems causing me to having hight levels of calcium in my blood. This problem also cleared as well as a suspicious mass that was believe it was thyroid cancer. I had the thyroid problem about the same time my high levels of calcium in my blood were discovered. At the time I had one of my parathyroids removed and half of my thyroid removed, were I had cancer. Although thee Cardiologist or Endocrinologist won't admit that taking high doses of vitamin D3 help I believe it had a lot to do with it. I as well added K2, full spectrum. You need to do your own research and ask questions, lots of questions.
I'm watching this video 4 months later for the first time. I have osteoarthritis in my knee and in July I really cut down on carbs, veg, beans etc and have been eating more meat and eggs that ever before. I'm also drinking more full fat lactose free milk. I've been on skimmed milk for over over 20 years and started with lactose free skimmed milk around 10 years ago. I'm living by myself for a change and more in control of what I eat. My family are form Sri Lanka so spices like Cinnamon, Ginger, Turmeric etc are staples but I've been adding them to food much more frequently than before. My knee has been relatively ok. It still bothers me but no where near as bad as before. I have other previous health issues that have flared up but my knee is behaving. My digestive issues have really calmed down too. I've been doing the tips in the video for 4 months anyway and can confirm (at least for me) that they are effective.
@@Jasmin6Aathviha I found it. It's basically what I do anyway 😃 I learned about what foods were bad for my and took those out. My digestion is much better for it.
I feel great after 7 years of keto, when I do eat or drink carbs I get hip pain, shoulder pain, sore back. My goto meal Honey roasted wild salmon with my homemade pickles and grass raised organic cheese, with a couple eggs.
I wish I would have known all this information years ago for my mother too. She suffered so much and NO doctor ever helped, they do not know anything about nutrition like Dr Berg. TY
Best food for arthritis (once you've done with the elimination of offending items) is undenaturated Type II collagen (UC-II) from chicken sternum cartilage. This is actual building block for your joints. Two weeks and you are better off. Just eat enough of it and make sure you have eliminated the offending items.
Dr. Berg, thank you for your advice. I’m now more informed about what I put in my body. I was on the verge of becoming an invalid. I had difficulty getting up. My joints would ache. I was gaining excessive weight. But thanks to your great videos, on type 2 diabetes and arthritis. I was able to make smart choices and follow your recommendations. I started fasting. It got easier and easier. I’ve lost 10lbs, so far. I feel much better. I started walking again, at our local park. Dr. Berg, you are my hero! Thank you!,😊

I understand nutrition is of most importance but I no longer consume pork. It is said ( in the bible ) they are cleaners of the earth. I was being sick often so, I've changed my diet and already notice a difference with my health in a positive way.
I think keto diet + regular exercise + intermediate fasting is the way to go for long & healthy life! Also, make all your meals so that you know what you are eating!!!
I had arthritis on my knees since I falled down on volcanic stones at the age of 7, at 22 went to live in a kundalini yoga ashram and became vegetarian, no eggs as well, but I ate milk products, the arthritis on my knees dissapeared for ever, now I am 63, some vegetables do damage combined with meat products and their chemicals in our body, but without any meat, nor fish nuts, beans and all green will not be a problem, at least in my case was like that
I think there is still a lot to know/learn about the combination of foods. It's not just what you shouldn't eat. It's also about what you shouldn't combine.
If you want to compare beefs and their milk products you should check that in Ecuador. All the cattle are pasture fed, have little fat, live out in the sun. They are allowed to free range and you will often find them on a safety rope eating at the road edge, eating anything green.
This was thoroughly enjoyed. So much wisdom to unpack, that my subconscious keeps getting penny drops "ah, thats why when this, happens that" 🤩 very affirming and enlightening
Based on this, there are two options - starve yourself to death to avoid joint pain or become rich to buy the food sources required to keep inflammation in check. Interesting videos, but suggest dialing it in so that it is actually practical for everyday consumers.
No, best for him to tell the truth, then everyone else can manage according to their needs and resources... We don't want him becoming like the government and tell us to eat crappy food just because they are cheap for consumers (and profitable for the makers)...
@@justine3769You are missing the point. No one suggests not telling the truth. Anyone can talk about the theoretical dos and don’ts - the value is distilling it down to practical use in everyday life.
@@Ryker06 What's practical is different for every person as it depends on your goals, your body, where you live, your financial means, ...it's up to you to do additional research taking into account the above and come up with your own practical lifestyle & continously finding ways to improve/optimize it...
@@justine3769 To a point, but consider it this way - when you are told sugars, carbs, fruits and potentially veggies , grain fed beef and poultry, all nuts minus walnuts can all cause inflammation and the potential alternative is free range chickens and cattle that are not grain fed and non farm raised fish then guess what - most people will just deal with the damn inflammation. Of what practical value to anyone is the video. Ok. So just about every we eat can cause inflammation! Wow!!!How useful is that huh? Give it a break and just continue being a fanboy or girl.
We're not supposed to eat all day long... eat once or twice a day, in a short window ( between 12-6pm for example ) you'll find your not as hungry & you'll eat as your designed to eat. It's really less expensive to eat grass fed/finished meat, A2 dairy, eggs.... the junk in the grocery store is very expensive, eating out is very expensive. You'll cut your food budget in half ❤
This is actually depressing knowing these so called "healthy" foods are anything but. Grass fed grass finished anything is so expensive as is salmon. Been watching these videos for years and very much appreciate all the content provided.
Intermittent fasting helps so much. I'm on day 3 and feels so much better. Usually by day 5 I have no pain. I'm also removing processed foods, white bread and sugary drinks. Starting my juicing today. It helps so much. Thx for the videos Dr.
Hello Dr Berg. Thx for your videos! I was wondering, you are saying that the reason for arthritis is probably inflammation in the gut. Isn’t it better to fix the gut first and then fix the arthritis? Because in the video you are talking about witch food is good for the arthritis but how can someone fix the inflammation in the gut? At 18 I was diagnosed with hashimoto, at 31 I got alopecia and now I got arthritis in my knees and my fingers, I’m 42 now. Thanks for reading our comments and responding through your videos ❤
Regarding dairy, I can only eat plant based things, like plant based butter and cheese, Lactaid milk, etc. How do these affect inflammation? Also someone mentioned turmeric; it is a blood thinner!
Those plant based products are honestly horrible for you. I’m sorry but anything like that is processed to the hilt & indeed have chemicals added so they taste like something they’re not even close to. You’re better off going without
Honestly I am completely lost on what to eat and what not. I have hashimoto, lupus, pcos and rheumatoid arthritis. The food that I should eat for one disease is often times food I should avoid for another disease. Also, being vegan narrows down the choice a lot. No idea what I should eat and avoid. I stopped eating sugar but probably will start eating it again because my meal options at the moment especially in restaurants is basically 0 😓 HELPPP
I am also lost. I have the same diseases as you. I don't eat meat, none. instead I use legumes, for breakfast I eat ground seeds of 5-6 kinds, flax seeds, sesame seeds, cinnamon and a little dried fruit. Plum, apricot, fig. To all this I add linseed oil so that everything combines well. I've been eating that for 15 years. I only take a little cheese sometimes and sometimes an egg. but in general it's almost a vegan diet. this information kind of confuses me. My illness has calmed down since I eat like this. but I'm still afraid that it won't return. Since i have occasional pain. But, what's good is that i'm not on any medication and i had come to a biological therapy. all these recommendations are a little strange for me. p.s. sorry for my english :(
You know how I know you telling the truth your voice structure and lots of studying. We are vibing. And I have actually experienced every food that you say or mention shall I say and what it does and what it doesn't do I have experienced it and it's just amazing

I’m only 26, I am 100% sure I have arthritis. I was on Vyvanse for 2 years and was only sleeping 3 times a week, eating only a few times a week and it was a donut or a block of chocolate or something random. I lost 13 kilos. Wasn’t drinking much water. I moved city and didn’t have a car, I was walking for about 10 hours a day up hills etc non stop, I have ADHD so I wouldn’t take breaks I would walk for hours and hours just because. I stopped taking the medication almost two years ago. I’ve tried to gain weight but can’t, all of my bones hurt. I can’t survive the rest of my life like this. I want to be in peace…

Food allergies and sensitivities are also important. Know what foods and seasonings cause your inflammation and avoid them. If you have airborne allergies, then there is a good chance you have Oral Allergy Syndrome aka Pollen Food Allergy Syndrome. For instance, if you are allergic to Ragweed, then it can cause reactions with bananas, melons, cucumbers, zucchini, white potatoes, kiwifruit, artichokes, paprika, etc. But probably the most potent reason for inflammation is stress. Stress makes everything much worse.
I agreed with your information. However, what about the people that don’t have access to good organic foods or the financial issues. Natural food is costly and hard to find and hard to verify if the food is real organic.?
I was waiting for him to say this about fruit. I eat fruit like crazy and hurt all the time. I recently gave it up to just a couple pieces and am much better.
Dr. Berg you mentioned "grass fed meats" but, you didn't mentioned which is just as important grass finished meats. Some farms start out grass fed but, not grass finished.

A doctor wanted to fuse my wrists several years ago. He was also going to remove huge bone spurs on the thumb side. They were very visible. I declined the operation because I wanted to be able to continue to bend my wrists. I put up with the pain. I started taking Dr. Berg’s advice three months ago or so and my wrist pain decreased by probably 80%. I put this in the miracle category. Also, the bone spurs are visibly much smaller. Apple cider vinegar, no sugar, no carbs, extra virgin olive oil. All of this has had such positive effects. Not to mention dropping 30 pounds. Give it a try before operation.
