I totally agree, probably what most players should play. Definitely need to do so on mine.

Just bought a set of the T300 irons. This video is highly perceptive and on the money. I am a reasonable player, once quite good, and now 75 and losing distance and penetrative flight. These clubs are beautifully designed and made, and put other so-called 'game improvement' irons to shame. Had a set of Callaway DCB's - for two rounds before I threw them away. Real clunkers. No comparison with this very polished (literally and metaphorically) new Titleist product, which, as one of the guys in the video commented, is likely to be viewed as the benchmark iron in this sector. A lot of snobbish nonsense is talked about golf clubs on utube, 'thin top line', 'no offset' etc etc. The idea of golf, or at least golf for oldies, is to have some success consistently striking the ball, and go a small way to rediscovering past glories. These irons do that. The contrast is stark: play irons the (young) pundits rate, or play irons that work for you, and happily look good at the same time. Your choice.

I would have to agree with your comment wholeheartedly. I know this was a year ago, but I would also like to touch on this. I had been using the Callaway Rogue ST Max irons. Granted I had only been playing for 6 months and they were the only thing I could hit at the time. Fast forward a year, and I am so incredibly inconsistent with the Callaway Rogue ST max’s. Once my swing speed hit about 85, they start spraying everywhere. Often times only have a 9-10 degree launch angle. With the T300’s my game has taken a COMPLETE 180. I am now consistent as ever, amazing launch angle, amazing spin, amazing carry and PERFECT landing angle of 45-47. The numbers I see with the T300’s are LIGHTYEARS better than the Callaway Rogue ST’s.

Love how Matty can slow his swing down to give actual numbers with the game improvement irons.

I appreciate the effort, but he was swinging the 7 iron at 90mph. That's my driver speed. My 7 iron is around 77. Bottom line, their testing tells me very little about how the clubs may work for someone of average to slower swing speed. I've started spending more time watching reviews with slower swing players, often women.

I game Cleveland wedges. I’m a 16 handicap. It amazes me how many mid to high handicappers game vokey’s. If your using game improvement iron, you shouldn’t be playing bladed wedges. Unless practicing a crazy amount of time.

Having been using the Mizuno JPX919 forged for the past three plus years I thought similar thing comparing the T300 and the Mizuno 921 Hot Metal Pro. I had a fitting session earlier in the week between these two and found the decision very difficult but ended up going with the T300. Mainly strong distance without sacrificing launch angle while having a strong sound and feel. The lower CG does make a noticeable difference in launch and distance, so I’m excited to get the T300. Was hitting my Mizuno JPX919 7-iron 155-160 yds, and with the T300 7-iron hit consistently 170yds but again with good launch angle so I won’t loose stopping power on the greens.

I rented a set of T300s recently to play a course I've never played before in Palm Springs (Eagle Falls). I'm an 8 handicap and shot a 70 from the whites. I learned two things from this: 1) I should've played from the blues, and 2) I need to get fitted for a set of T300s. Ha! I was on in reg 16/18 greens. Awesome!
@bobhunt2533

Thanks for great and trustable reviews. I am in my 70s and have certainly lost distance over the years. However, my handicap ranges from 3 to 5. It does this because I use game improvement clubs-not in spite of them. I realize that some criteria has to be used to describe who clubs are meant for, but I'm not sure handicap should be the main one as some do. This is one low handicapper who will have these in the bag as soon as they come out. I think most club golfers need all the help they can get and even the best should give these a try. Trust me, your opponents won't ask what clubs you have when they are paying you at the end of the round. Thanks again for your wonderful reviews and information.

I went for a fitting last week to compare my zx’5 against the T200’s while there I hit the 300’s. In 20-30 shots ball speed difference between all shots was 0.3 mph. Strong straight penetrating ball flight. I couldn’t argue with the results. Put my ego aside couldn’t deny the performance cannot wait for them to arrive

@@Lemons1400 a couple of things added up. I really like my zx’5. I got fitted for them by the pro at my golf club. I am a firm believer of supporting your club and shop but the fitting kit with shafts is limited and got fitted to be best one available to me. Using the zx’5 I have a naturally shallow swing and hit quite clean. Hitting off a mat at practice and fitting is good but when on grass with the v shaped sole it’s not the best for me personally. When I tried the Titleist irons I went in with the view of trying the 200’s maybe a split set with 300’s in the long irons but the I didn’t feel with the 300’s I was sacrificing anything feel is good it is hot off the face I know it’s not forged but I liked it. It felt you are getting back what effort you are putting in. Performance was for me excellent and look Titleist have brought out great looking irons and the full range in pictures you are drawn to the 100’s and the 200’s but if you have the 300 on it’s own it looks class. The pictures and and on screen don’t do it justice once you see it up close it is a really good looking club. Srixons will be going not got a bad thing to say about them just found a unicorn in performance for myself lol

@@stuartmacdonald305 Interesting on your thoughts of the ZX5s. I just got a set from U try it and played a round yesterday...Oh what a feeling,so soft and the turf interaction with the V sole is fantastic. I do hit down into the ball so I suppose thats the difference on our opinions. Too bad these have to go back (twin boys in College). I believe I would have trouble with the T300s due to that large sole though. Enjoy your new clubs.

@stuartmacdonald305 3 года назад
@@ShawnyBGolf nobody needs a reason to try new irons especially the new Titleist irons lol. I like my Srixon irons but when testing the irons I wouldn’t say I am a bad hitter of the ball. But after hitting my srixons over the shots 1 shot could be 3mph slower the next 4 mph quicker and continued up and down which was surprising as I would have said they have been my most consistent irons. I like the feel of the srixons also the Titleist irons is a very different feel not a bad feel hot and explosive. You may like it or not. Ian or Matt might want to elaborate but for my shallow swing because I am not compressing the ball as much or my attack angle is not down as much the stronger loft helps bring that down. The launch, distance and consistency of the Titleist is what done it for me. Just helps that it looks really good as well. Might work for you or not but definitely one to try

Hit these over two days and was shocked at the performance and ability to work the ball. I am a 6 handicap and ordered them after reviewing and reconfirming the numbers over two sessions. Hit 7 shafts, selected the right one for me and had a 3 yard deviation front to back over 20 shots with a 7 iron. I was shocked. The forgiveness is unbelievable. Easy to hit, forgiving and as much length as you need.

Gentlemen- As a definite old duffer I like to play my set of Ping Eye 2 irons. I would enjoy seeing a comparison (equal lofts) of these old reliable clubs to the Titleist 300 irons and other new "game improvement" type irons to give me an idea of how much they would be likely to change my game as regards ease of hitting, accuracy, length etc. Given the cost of new clubs it would be helpful to know if there is good reason to go with an upgrade! I love my 2019 T300s. Everytime I hit the toe and feel bad - I realize the ball still went straight, just about 10 yds shorter than normal. It's so nice to have that security. You can still shape em all you want, and I don't understand why anyone wouldn't want the help. I suppose the lofts being so strong is an argument, but just bend em! Big fan.

Hi Ian Just rewatched your Titleist T300 iron test & was surprised when you said more people should play “set” gap wedge’s (more forgiving), what a brilliant off the cuff comment, I have always played gap wedges and am finding it difficult with full shots to get decent distance’s But now manufacturers are making good set wedges it’s now a good option, thought Matty did a brilliant job testing the wedges taking the speed down (with tiny out to in swing) great test guys Dickey (UK) have been watching your show a year now keep up the great work.

Great video. I am a 66-year-old, low handicapper and was told by my club pro to hit the T200's. I liked them but ended up with the T300's. I am a straight ball hitter and these worked well. Just because I am a low handicapper doesn't mean I will play players distance irons. I want something easier to hit and flies straight. The T300's is my choice. They feel great, fly straight, look great and gives good distance. Before this and for 2 years I played the Callaway Epic Forged. They are fine but the T300's work better for me now. Thanks again.

Just got fitted and it was down to the Ping G425 and this T300. Since I had ping woods I really wanted to convince myself to like the ping. However I was just hitting the T300 better. Even through bad shots it flew decent and I felt strong throughout. Plus it looked better than the Ping, more elegant and less chunky. The fact that I would’ve paid less for T300s sealed the deal and very happy with my purchase.

I started with TM burner 2.0, practiced and started playing them too long. But got them because traditional golf shops said I should get them. Moved into the P770s a month later, was told those were hard to hit and they looked terribly thin when I got them. Practiced and after awhile they became kinda big on the top line to me. I’m in the P7MCs now, they are forcing me to practice more but now the top line and blade length are normal. It’s more just my swing needing work. So I say all that to say, be honest about your golf goals and confident in what you want. It’ll save time and money in the long run. 2/2

Stock T300 5-iron is 23-degrees - weaken it to 24-degrees, the same loft as a bladed 4-iron, as your last iron in the bag in a combo T100, T200 set, and I think you have the perfect longest Par 3 on the course 190-220 tee-club for most better players - this is what I'm thinking about for my next T100/T200 combo set. Combo would be T100 (PW,9 - 46,42 - weakened to 47,42), T100 (8,7,6 - 36,32,28 - weakened to 37,32,28) and then T300 (5 - 23 - weakened to 24) - together gives 47,42,37,32,28,24 (my current spec)
@joshuapisani1853
@joshuapisani1853 3 года назад
Now that's a great, well thought out combo set! I like those lofts for myself as well - looking to find a good set of irons that are weaker than what i'm playing to give me some consistency in my carry yardages. I'm at 4-GW right now and they're at 50,45,40,35,31,27,24,21 if I remember correctly. My questions to you, if you've thought about these, are how to blend into other wedges (bounce/grind/lofts) and what do you use at the top of the bag? Also, any thoughts on potentially changing turf interaction for the worse when weakening iron lofts, due to the added bounce?
@wallstreetoneil
@wallstreetoneil 3 года назад
@@joshuapisani1853 in terms of weakening causing bounce issues, both the T100 PW at 46, bent to 47, maybe even 47.5, is only going to make it better as an around the green, long chipping club, if you use that club/shot - a 36-degree 8-iron T100s or T200, bent to 37 you will never notice the 1-degree bounce increase. In my original post, I said T200, I meant to write T100s, but the T200s have the same lofts & offset so they are interchangeable. I have learned that the last iron I can competently hit off the fairway is a 24 lofted iron, I don't have the talent and speed to hit a 3-iron 21-degree lofted club (I can hit it off a tee), but a 22/21 degree hybrid is my next club, followed by 18-degree hybrid, then 14.5 3-wood and 8-degree driver. The wedges I use are 52/57/62. My 52 is a club-hack club, where I have taken a 56/14 Mizuno T20 wedge and had it bent to 52/10. I use this club a lot around the green so I want heel relief to be able to open the face as most stock 52 wedges are full sole wedges without heel relief. I use a mid-bounce c-grind 56/10 Mizuno T20 and bent it weak to 57/11. I also carry a Taylormade Hi-Toe ATV-sole Grind 60 degree, that I have bent weak to 62. In sand that is compact and hard, the ATV-sole has a sharp front edge that allows you to get cleanly into those tight situations without too much bounce - and depending on the conditions you play, and your talent skill with wedges, having one wedge with more bounce and one wedge with less bounce, or leading-edge grind with also trailing edge relief, (this is the Tiger Woods Taylormade wedge grind), is almost a must-have for hard conditions. My 21-degree hybrid is a 22-degree Taylormade #4 Gapr-Hi, opened/de-loft to 21-degree, and re-shafted with a heavier 110gram Steelfiber i110 X-flex shaft (done at TXG), and also playing 1/2" short, and my 18-degree hybrid is a Mizuno 2020clk #3 19-degree hybrid, playing open/de-lofted to 18-degrees with a 94-gram TX-Flex Tensei White shaft. I wanted both my hybrids to be played open so they would be more anti-left clubs because I wanted to be able to play them into greens and not lose them left - and also specifically for the 18-degree Mizuno CLK, I wanted a very stiff TX-flex shaft that might give up 5 yards or carry and height because I wanted it as a tee-club on tight short Par 4s giving me a 225 bullet 5-yard fade club (I love this club). I have a set of Original year Titleist AP2s with heavy Rifle 6.5s that I find myself going back to after experimenting with modern distance more forgiving clubs because the thicker soles are just harder to hit on actual golf courses versus off astro-matts where modern clubs shine - and that is why I'm really thinking about this new Titleist combo set. I'm 52, driver swing speed is 105 and I'm about a 5-10 handicap depending on short-game for reference.

Of the ones I’ve tested, the Mizuno JPX 921 Hot Metals were the best. I also liked these Titleist’s, the Ping G425 and the PXG 0211 (although I felt the lofts were too strong on the PXGs)

If you can find a decent r7 irons do it. I just got a set. Rahafted to la golf shafts. What’s decent about the r7 line is they are the og lofts. None of this strong lofted clubs now a days.

I would definitely start with these and only move up to the T200s if the T300s hold me back (doubt it). I might have to look at these to replace my "old" Adams New Idea irons...

same here Rob. I'm interested to see whether/how a T200/300 combo could be blended given the loft differences - carry two 5 irons? Keen to test both of these soon and have high expectations of performance improvement vs my old x16s.

I’m curious, why would someone buy a utility/driving iron rather than buying a t300 4 iron for whatever set they are playing?
@ryankelso7980
@ryankelso7980 3 года назад
Fowler plays a speed zone 4 iron as his driving iron as he gets the forgiveness, launch, low spin and decent angle he wants!
@2xtheSize
@2xtheSize 3 года назад
For me it has to do with the offset. Typically utility clubs have less offset and are slightly lower overall trajectory than the t300 4 iron. My t200 Utility fitting proved this to be the case. The u505 was actually too low mostly due to the turf interaction with the significantly wider sole. The t200 utility build just fit right.

I just purchased the T300 (2020) and the NEW version came out a month later. What is the difference between last year's model compared to the new 2021? Should I return my recently purchased T300 (under 90 day return policy), for the NEW 2021 T300??

When fitting Matt’s bag, would it be worth while to look at a T300 5-iron as his 4-irons or maybe a 4-irons as a 3-iron in his bag? He seemed to hit it great, and it might fit in terms of gapping.

I play the AP2s from 2018 and have a speed zone driver. Here lately after experimenting I grip them almost with the heel of my glove hand hanging off the grip with both irons and driver down where the grip is the fattest and feel like my hand and fingers fit the grips better and my shots have improved unbelievably to my surprise! My question for you is would this be because it's essentially making the club longer or just the grip feel? These are standard grip size and wondering should I go to jumbo grips or longer clubs or both?? Thanks for all you fellas do!

I'm really interested in these. I'm looking for a solid forgiving (mid to high HC) iron but not a fan of the stronger lofts that come with them. If I were to get them 2 degrees weaker, would i really be taking too much away from these? I'm not looking for stupid easy distance. Just a good flight and solid spin.
