Poor jetpack, it’s such a well-designed special: gives you a new movement option, very skill dependent, has a lot of counterplay/interaction with opponents, etc. I think it was one of the better specials to be “broken” after it was buffed and I really wish they’d give it something to make it viable again.
Really, all it needs is just more kit variety (or some nice Vbrella and/or Drapid buffs please Nintendo), because it's not on enough good weapons to be run reliably right now.
Honestly a movement speed buff would a long way to just make it a bit less of a sitting duck at times, id even take it for a trade off of like a bit less duration so its more aggro.
All I really want for jetpack is for them to put it on more weapons. The state of jetpack kits is very depressing right now, and to me the only jetpack kit so far that hasn't come with an annoying drawback has been ballpoint, and we all know how that's going now.
I dislike it tbh its a very matchup-heavysz dependants specialsz tbh rn, the counterplays is dependant to of your weapon, some weapons cant just do anything about it and get shutdown really hard, it just so happens that the meta counters inkjets fairly wellsz rn unless im wrongsz, but point is anyways that even main weapons are pretty matchup-reliant too, you also have subs and specials to make up for it in the disparity, but no amount of subs is gonna help you against an inkjet if youre something like a carbon, at least with missiles every weapon can move out, but inkjet just shuts down specific weapons while it gets shut down hard by others, its too polarizing imho.
@@johndelanie3649 Not a meta if most top-level teams aren't running the weapon (because Snipewritter 5H is factually better), and it has multiple counters. If you want a better example, look at Splatoon 2 from 5.0.0 to 5.5.5.
I personally think the best splatoon3 meta was when there wasn’t one, between the inkjet meta and the cooler/zooka meta. It provided players and teams more variants but now it’s just plain bold 1 zooka 1 cooler and 2 random weapons.
Sadly the truth is that “no meta” times are transitional points. They never last forever. We're lucky that we have had a few of those transitional periods due to the speed of patches/the level of buffs and nerfs, unlike S2 where the moment mid range MPU ended quad shooter began

People who truly love a thing criticize it because they want to see it get better and improve. We've objectively been underserved in many departments compared to the first two games. That being said, things did in fact improve somewhat, which is what this video is celebrating.
I too love defending a game with zero design philosophy for maps where the floors are 1/4th unpaintable for no reason and walls 6/7ths unpaintable for no reason while being smaller than a third of the training room. Problem is, this game has blob/slosher deco, my beloved. I will do anything to defend her, no matter what game she’s in. 500 hrs on both /hj /pos
Ok nintendo, it took you 3 games to fix the meta. Now can you please realize that splatoon 1 maps were the best and make better maps in the future? 😁 All jokes aside, I really love splatoon 3 compared to 1 and 2. In my opinion, pretty much its only weekness compared to its predecessors are the maps. (And the net code but we don’t talk about that)

I feel like a meta where people used so many different weapons would create a very unique viewing experience for new players. Seeing other players using everything could encourage them to try lots of weapons rather than 2 or 3 to main
We needed this video for quite a while, amazing video and well explained,, a lot of ppl, specially those who left comp, still has this image of Splatoon comp in their head from back when playing midline was a pain and you had to constantly deal with special bomb spam and rat shooters, and I'm constantly convincing them how satisfying it is to play midline rn
My idea for how to handle Trizooka would be to double its startup lag, but give it back the 60 damage, since 53 is just a very unsatisfying number, and seems very random.
I suppose they had to settle for a balance between not recovering too fast or two slow, and threw away a damage synergy combo in the process (I'm thinking Wave Breaker)

Its a little sad that Tri-stringers, one if the brand new weapon classes and hero of Splat3 rarely even gets mentioned in any meta videos. Its a shame, they really need some love to be viable in comp, hey?
Loving the more positive vids! Overall this meta is really pretty good imo. Yes there are some concerns, a few things that dominate it way too much - though I love cooler as a special and what it means for the game pace, it being a requirement on teams probably isn't the best... and pencil is a fantastic weapon, but just dominates too much rn... and zooka is zooka- BUT there's so much good stuff right now too. The games FEEL good to play and watch. I would much rather be here than, say, crab stall meta. There's an emphasis on action and fighting that Splatoon has always wanted to have. It would still be great to see some bad weapons get some buffs, without nerfing the weapons that are currently good and well balanced - but I think the weapon balance is in a good state rn
Nintendo really could have made bigger buffs at the start of the game for some weapons that never see competitive play like undercover and clash blaster. After that they would have had a lot of time to observe the effects on gameplay and fine tune the balance accurately so that some weapons don't become too overpowered in casual play. With maybe only two patches left, it is much more risky to make big changes. Same with map reworks.
Chara, can we get a video explaining different ways to improve with different weapons? Or explaining if some abilities on your clothes improve your weapons capabilities. For example, will having a lot movement speed increase my running with a brush?
You're better off finding content creators that play those specific weapons. That's a lot of weapons for one creator. Anyway run/movement speed does absolutely nothing on brushes and rollers, sadly 😭
Looking at the direction the previous patches were going in i think other cooler weapons will be safe, i just think its clear the devs like the game as it is for better and for worse, but we see them targeting pencil and shot at the very least and hey they seem to want people to play these other cooler options given the buffs things like hedit, zap, dynamo, and h3 have gotten over the last few months, hopefully they tune pencil, zooka and shot down a bit and we’ll be able to squeeze more options into the meta as other small buffs roll out (which is the most likely while still being ideal scenario)
I think that the existence of strong mid range weapons is important, because it adds a middleman between the two range types, allowing for more counterplay between all 3 that goes beyond the map that is played on.

It's interesting how 2-line space has 5 essentially interchngeable shooters (SD included) that only differ in their kits (and sometimes not even that, see Ttek and Neo Splash), while shooter-likes in 3-line space are both more plentiful and all unique.
Recently picked shot back up just for the funnies, and in casual play, this thing feels nice, sometimes TOO nice, mostly with how busted Zooka can be. I also have been enjoying playing the Heavy Edit, and I've not had this much fun in quite some time.
Based on that chart, it's hard to call wiper and jr 1 trick material, those are weps you see many comp players pocketing that they can't use all the time not only bc they aren't meta, but bc they just won't work in every situation (map, comp,etc...) and forces you flex

Its playstyles is very straightforwardszh, but again its also pretty shtraightforwardkrtrdzszh in its approach so youre not wrong lol. Yeah I think basically if the pencil's paint and zooka's radius got nerfed a bit the meta should be good. I not sure about the balance of other competitive pvp games, but from my experience, players always complain about the balance of every pvp game. IMO at least in s3, current meta is one of the most balanced meta.
I want only 1 buff for douser’s and that’s fall off damage needs to be increased. Landing 8 slow hits on an opponent and having them not die just seems unfair
I just hope the meta ends on a high note by the end of Sizzle season. I wouldn't mind if pencil got nerfed a bit, but not too much. That's coming from a guy who doesn't play competitively at all.

@prochara i want to ask something. Splat 2 plaza posts will be gone soon, which may follow up with splat 2 lobbies being gone too. Just so more people play splatoon 3. Can you convince your audience to come and write a complaint email to nintendo to let splat 2 live. Its better than splat 3. More weapons, better kits, specials and salmon run maps.
