RU-vid is full of mindless little twits obsessed with talking about themselves. Then there's people like you on here genuinely helping people with good, informative ways to improve there bodies and their lives. Thank you for that.
I've never been so shocked before, before when I tried to touch my toes it was so painful and tight it was embarrassing now I can touch them! Anyone who sees this comment and is watching the video put in the work and do what he says before when I didn't do the full 2 minutes and reps I didn't work but when I did and was dedicated it worked ! It may hurt but keep at it
Why did I just now find this video? Omg, I've been dealing with hamstring tightness and muscle pain for over a year. Dr couldn't find anything wrong. I did these stretches and had immediate pain relief. I can't fully bend my knee yet, but I'm positive this is going to help. I also think I'm going to invest in a standing desk.
Thank you for this video!! I live with degenerative disc and while I'm very active my back had gotten worse lately, so I kept doing back stretches, which wasn't working. It was my hamstrings, I never would have guessed. I can actually move today. I could seriously cry.
I have had tight hamstrings for as long as I can remember and have always complained about it. My tight hamstrings was starting to become a huge issue for me in the gym as I continue to lift heavier - until I found this video. I'm about 4 weeks in from doing these stretches consistently and the difference has been legit life-changing. Thanks so much man.
I was just running down the stairs when my left hamstring pulled and became progressively worse over the next hour. This video took care of this tissue issue immediately upon completing. Thank you so much for all you do Blake. You make the world a better place. PS I have gone through your Intelligence Training Program three times over in a row. It's changed my world and those of so many others. My form has never been better, my physique has never looked or felt better, and I've been training for over 30 years. Please be sure to continue providing more workout programs. I will be purchasing every one of them.
I didn’t sleep at all last night because my hamstrings were so tight. I just did these exercises and I feel so much better!! I’m sharing this with everyone I know.
this works wonders. ive never been flexible but it definitely helps. (I clicked the only video thumbnail that didn't have a super flexible yoga instructor talking about tightness). thanks for sharing!
I'm really amazed, and grateful. Have been struggling with a super-tight right hamstring for two months, felt it getting worse not matter how many stretches I tried. Was ready to go see a doctor of some kind for relief and then found this video. Did this sequence this afternoon and the relief is PROFOUND. I'm now a subscriber and a fan and just had my husband do the whole sequence too. Will also start getting up from my desk every 20 mins or so to avoid this coming back. THANK YOU!
I've watched about 10 videos about tight ham therapy/release and this is the best one of them all! You are the only one so far that taught the active release technique. I was already using a tennis ball under my hams for about 3 days now but this made it more impactful. Trying to deal with low back tightness (that causes major issues sometimes) and I'm pretty sure it's due to tight hamstrings - those puppies are reeeeaaalllly tight lol. Thank you!!!
+P A N I C . Holy. Shit. You weren't exaggerating!!! I haven't been able to touch my toes since I was 10!! Just did this and i can touch them again no problem..
I've been experiencing leg pain in my left leg that has been getting progressively worse over the past year, and it is now to the point where I feel almost as though my leg is totally stiff, like I have to swing it like a peg leg when I walk, and bending at the knee hurts so badly I avoid kneeling down. I've been massaging my calves and it helps a little bit but nothing helps like this fascial release technique. I think my hammies are the number one culprit. I've learned this technique in another video but seeing it again on yours and trying it and just enduring the terrible pain and my leg feels much more flexible now! Thanks man!
Thank you. I tried the stretch on my back with my fingers behind my calf. After 3 weeks of feeling like my hamstring was going to snap, it released !!! Wow! Nothing else was working.
Hey man I really appreciate the advice and even the scientific justification of each stretch/ excersize. I have a track meet tomorrow and my hamstrings were so tight I couldn’t walk. I feel like a new person with these recently loosened hamstrings! 😂
Thank you for simply explaining the "why" of tight hamstrings. I learned sitting all day is the problem for me. Getting the standing desk and working on these stretches too. Thanks again.
best hamstring video ever!!! within minutes I was able to release tightness in my muscles allowing for so much more range of motion that stretching alone never improved.
These stretches and advice really help! I'm a swimmer, and I have been experiencing a swollen and sore knee caused by tight hamstrings on my right side. Really helpful thank you!
The first stretch with the ball seems to work amazingly well. It's like an acupressure release I guess. After a few swings of the leg, which are extremely painful at first, the pain fades to nothing after 5-10 swings. Then the 2nd stretch is great also. I have yet to master the 3rd movement, but I've already noticed a reduction in the sitting pain I was experiencing. I ride horses and do dressage which seems to be resulting in contracted hamstrings, plus requires you to sit on both seatbones to influence the horse's movements. This might help me get rid of the pain near my ischial tuberosity which has made it painful to sit for long periods of time, especially when driving.
A few questions on the first part: 1. Does the 2-3 minutes you refer to mean each position with the ball? 2. Is it OK to alternate legs before moving the ball down or is it better to do one leg at a time? 3. If I have a second ball, is it OK to do both legs at the same time?
Thank you so much for this! I'm so un-sporty that the only ball in the house I had to try this with belongs to the dog! But oh my god, the difference! Thank you for the anatomical explanations as well, it makes a big difference in understanding what I'm supposed to be aiming for. Dog will forgive me for stealing his ball once he realises that this means we can go out and run about more!
Could I use a tennis ball instead of the softball? Thx for the video, haven't tried it yet, but great explanation and I'm really keen to give it a go :)
thank you man!!! i ve been suffered this problem for one year. i had massaged my hamstrings with foam roller. i realized after your videos foam roller is very thick for hams the other reasons are hams are sectional muscle and arent close to fascia and leg's flat because of it roller didnt works :). i applied tennis ball under my hams when i was sitting it really worked. thank youu so much mann
love your videos, i am very prone to overuse injuries in general and every video you make is pure gold for me. very informative and entertaining videos, it´s crazy that you don´t get more views than you do. keep up the good work i love learning from your videos!!!
tore my left hamstring once doing deadlift and now looking back I see it was not because of the weight. I used to remain sit for long hours so my hams got tight just like you said in the beggining.
This looks very useful, especially the sequence it's in. I'd love to try it right now but I have already pulled/strained my hamstrings 5 days ago. Should I wait until it heals or get at it? I know you weren't expecting a question, but I would really appreciate an answer, especially because I felt comfortable with your video. Thank you.
I am constantly stretching for my splits and I got them. The next morning I woke up with soreness, as per usual but then I stretched and I couldn't get my splits no matter what. I couldn't go down no matter how hard I pushed, it didn't hurt but I felt like that was my limit. After doing this i got my splits back smoothly. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for this video! I have been experiencing bad lower back pain for the past few days. After watching your video and trying the stretches I feel an immediate, noticeable relief. I will be doing these stretches again.
Excellent video .. so informative.. first time to know that these moves releases tight hamstrings as I'm used to other common exercises for hamstrings. Thank you so much
A mention or another video on neural tension, adhesions and what not would probably be a useful addition to this video. Lots of people fight tight 'hamstrings' not knowing they are fighting an adhesion / tight sciatic nerve. You can do a lot of damage if you are stretching the sciatic, at very least it is super frustrating. Secondly there are hamstring stretches that don't stretch the sciatic and avoid any damage in this area in the first place.
+GuerrillaZen Fitness Also any tips on how we can tell what we may be hitting if we have a restriction, what types of restrictions there are (other than plain tightness). I have basic knowledge of how to spot neural tension but don't know now if I am hitting a muscular adhesion or I have a muscle injury (and what to do if I have either). I know it may be a little outside your sphere (no offence dude) but a lot people over 30 or so would thank you.
Gr8 tutorial and easy to understand while learning. I can't do all exercises but hammys feeling so much better. I use a 30" wide Foam Roller 6" tall instead of a ball. It enables me to do stretches otherwise couldn't do. Thx again...Knowledge is power.
Great video . I used the ball on the back near top of hamstring and hey presto that certainly needs releasing on myself . I felt every symptom right down the back of my leg when I compressed the area . So , it follows , I believe , this is the area that is giving me problems stretching right down into my foot , even causing some numbness . Great help , now I must not overdo the practices in the video .
Hi. I tried my best to do the stretches but my hamstring hurts really bad and it affected my walking. Do you think that I should get another steroid injection just to help me get through the pain and be able to perform the exercises? I was administered a Piriformis steroid 3 weeks ago but pain in the hamstring is still hurting. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I've done these exercises just once now and I must say that I'm still not able to touch my toes. I don't think I got much further after this but the tightness did shift to my lower back and not in my sciatic nerve anymore so it does seem to help for this purpose. I'm very tight in a lot of spots so I still have a lot of work before I'm going to be able to touch my toes.
Awesome videos! I have plantar fasciitis and have been experiencing tightness from my foot all the way up to my hamstring. So this video helps. Have you done a video on P.F.? You may offer exercises that I haven't tried yet.
Wow this was so helpful my hamstrings were so tight from riding my bike so much the thing that helped me the most was the calf grab exercise thank you so much I feel a lot better now god bless you buddy 🙏
Hi. My hamstrings feel very tight in my left leg, so much so that it has csused knee pain and I am unable to bend my knee. I can feel some pain in the middle of my hamstrings. Most of the exercizes here involved bending the knee which I cant do, what do you recommend to get my knee to where i can bend it?
I just want to say I enjoyed hearing the medical breakdown and how thoroughly you explained yourself keep it up! what is your channel I'd love to follow
My right hamstring is too tight. The first thing u mentioned helped somewhat. The second not as much. The last thing I couldn’t really move my right leg past the first movement.
Thanks for the tip picked up ball from the store worked it in really good and did all the other stretches as well. Today during my workout out I really felt some pain start to develop in my hamstrings.
I struggled to find an exercise to stretch one of my hamstring muscles. I had tried the usual stretches which we do during football training but it only stretches certain part of my hamstring. If you feel pain while your stretching then you know you are stretching the right muscle. This exercise is what I needed. The cause of the tightness in my hamstring is definitely due to driving over 10 hours a day whilst sitting in leaned back position. Good advise. Many thanks
Dude, I haven't been able to touch my toes since I was a kid.. just did all the exercises here and I touched them NO PROBLEM! You sir, you know your shit. Thank you.
Nice tips! I just have one question: should i do these stretchs every day or just before exercises? I'm having a LOT of trouble doing squats because of tight hamstrings!
I got a question, I'm really sore, I did leg press and squats with the barbell. Do you recommend the technique inside this video to stretch the hamstring?
Thank you so much you are one of the few who actually has food information and things that really work, I finally got my splits down after almost 2 months of trying and never fully getting it and after this video I could do it 🤗🤗
I’m a catcher in baseball and I’m constantly in a crouch with my back bent. I know it’s awful for the hamstrings but is there anything I can do to help?
This video just saved my life, I️ could not run earlier this week due to my tight hamstring and that was horrible because I️ was not allowed to play basketball, which was even worse because I️ just got put up on varsity basketball. After a week of this I️ feel brand new thanks you so much
I used to be a dancer, and I could never so the splits my hips can go into the splits but when it comes to straightening my leg it always hurts, I've done so many stretches and none of them have helped that much when it comes to splits could you make a video on how to stretch them for splits ?
I love PNF stretches! This is definitely my favorite for the hamstrings, and I usually have a partner help! Great video, and thanks for discussing the pelvis debacle.
one thing I noticed during massages is the area right between the medial and lateral hamstrings (middle of the back of the thigh) about 1/2 to 2/3 to the knee... the best way I can get this is with a lacrosse ball and then do the knee flex/ext... get such a good release from this sometimes!
