Honestly one of the most unsettling designs in a game full of it. The bloodied pregnant belly, the piercing damage she's doing to herself to attack you, the correlation to birth overhaul. And what an amazing boss she was honestly, it would have been great to see her in the main story.
Poor Yharnam. Though we don't know much about her character, her design holds some very tragic implications, namely the bloody wound over her womb, the handcuffs, her face contorted with grief...
I always felt her design was based off of Lucy from Coppola’s Dracula film. Specifically when she has turned into a vampire and is wearing that ghastly white wedding dress. She had also stolen a child that she was either going to keep or feed from.
The best part is how easy she is once you reach her on NG+2 at level 150, lmao. So much suffering through Cursed Pthumeru and all the rest and all it amounted to was putting this old girl out of her misery
In a way it's probably on purpose as a funny joke like the poison swamps (which in this game in particular happens to be optional and pretty small, equivalent exchange and all that)
What a regal face; she must've been pregnant with Mergo late in life. It fits, for Annalise's and Arianna's predecessor; only one strain of blood can be so poisonous. She is to the Vilebloods what Laurence is to the Church; a foundation. That blade, though... How strangely shaped. Sinous; coiling. Was this what ripped Mergo out the womb? It need not have been by her hand; she is bound, after all. Still, for a queen to carry such a vile looking thing... Where's a knight when you need one?
Wait wait wait. What blood does she and Annalise share? Whats the difference between the blood the healing church uses and that which Laurence gave the Vilebloods and that which connects the Vilebloods to Queen Yharnam?
@@Liam-pi9vi OK, so; If you've used the Chikage and fought alot of it's wielders in the Chalice Dungeons( also, Bloody Crow Of Cainhurst) , you'll have noticed something; When imbued with blood, the Chikage induces what is possibly the strongest strain of poison in the entire game. It builds up faster, and eats through your health faster. It's part of why fighting Bloody Crow is such a nightmare( aside from, well, the damage) This fits in with Annalise's description of her Blood, as well as the nature of the Corruption Rune. "Pledgers to this oath are Cainhurst Vilebloods, hunters of blood who find dregs for their Queen in coldblood, particularly in that of hunters. Yet the corrupt are heretics in the eyes of the Church, and thus subject to the wrath of the Executioners." " Prithee, partake of my rotted blood." This is not mere Church propaganda; the Vilebloods are named so because their blood is literally vile. It's filled to the brim with poison. Now, go fight Yharnam for a sec... What do you notice? 1. She has the same boss theme as Logarius, named " Queen Of Vilebloods ". 2. Her blood attacks induce the exact same strain of poison as the Chikage. The difference between the blood given to the Vilebloods and that used by the Church is very simple; the latter is purified using multiple Blood Saints. The former was not only not purified, but had it's corruption cultivated on purpose. "The Vilebloods of Cainhurst, blood-lusting hunters, see these frightful things in coldblood. They often appear in the blood of echo fiends, that is to say, the blood of hunters. Queen Annalise partakes in these blood dreg offerings, so that she may one day bear the Child of Blood, the next Vileblood heir." The Blood Dregs' name in Japanese explains it more clearly, I think; they're accumulated impurities found within those who have gathered large amounts of Echoes. Ergo, Hunters. In contrast, the Blood used by the Church seems purified to hold heal properties even when solidified outside the body, such as with Amelia's Pendant; the reasons are obvious. Laurence built the Church to cure disease, not spread new corruption. This, along with the Vilebloods' focus on Hunters, would've been his reason for.. Dealing with them.
Nvm I remembered and did some research. Laurence and scholars at Byrgenworth discovered Great One’s blood in the tombs of the Pthumerians, and this caused the split between Laurence and Master Willhelm, who wanted to obstain from using it. Laurence gave this blood to the Vilebloods and it is also the SAME blood that the Healing Church utilizes.
@@alyseleem2692 There is no difference in their blood, Arianna the prostitute gives us blood that can heal us as well, and the description of her blood, along with wearing a royal dress that can be found Cainhurst, very much suggests that she has Vileblood running through her veins. Her blood does not corrupt us, it heals just like Adella’s who was herself groomed to be a vessel for healing blood.
@@Liam-pi9vi Yes, but the difference lies in use and production. As I said earlier, Laurence created the Church and the system of the Blood Saints to purify the Blood to be used en masse. In contrast, the Vilebloods cultivated it's impurities, resulting in the " rotted blood" of their Queen and their own blood being the strongest poison in the game. Queen Yharnam is the only other being to produce this strain of poison, and her boss theme is " Queen Of Vilebloods ". I don't think it can be more obvious, but she's their predecessor.
Her look is obviously (at least in my opinion) inspired by vampire Lucy in Coppola's Dracula. Similarly Pthumerian Elder/Descendant was inspired (once again, in my opinion) by old version of Dracula from same movie. Especially in final scenes. Adding to that, big chunk of sountrack in Bloodborne is inspired by Wojciech Kilar's sountrack to the same movie. Similarities are quite big, and even one of Bloodborne composers in a way confirmed that in interview.
Absolutely, getting the reference certainly made Lucy's scene in the 1992 adap more bearable; I most certainly recognize the passion that went into that movie, but, honestly, I highly dislike the tone shift of the characters and overall story tone, that went from friends gathering to defeat a mysterious paranormal entity to a bunch of weirdos fighting the king of demons
Yharnam Bridge has fallen down, fallen down, fallen down and the Queen now needs a clean new gown, my fair Lady... Stabbed inside her palms all day, palms all day, palms all day spiky blood scares all Hunters away, my fair Lady... Through blood magic she shows her might, shows her might, shows her might makes us drown in old blood tonight, my fair Lady... And as she goes, the child still shrieks, Child still shrieks, Child still shrieks it´s the nightmare newborn that she seeks, my fair Lady... Mensis Scholars, took him away, him away, him away on the cosmic Quest they went astray, my fair Lady sought out a Medium towards the Skies, towards the skies, towards the skies messed it up now everyone dies, my fair Lady Red Moon tonight it hangs low, it hangs low, it hangs low the Ptumeru Queen has willed it so, my fair Lady... And so the Hunt goes on until dawn, on until dawn, on until dawn Hunt and kill so it won´t be born, My fair Lady...
I wish you'd examined the differences between the models more in-depth. Asides from the obvious pregnant belly, there looks to be some other differences in the latter two variations. I've always wanted to see her up close, and I am FLABBERGASTED that she's not barefoot XD
"Goodbye my dear It's time to leave Underneath the light pink sky I have to say goodbye I love you I'll never be able to forget you Words run inside me Without me being able to say them to you It's raining on us Petals of our love And in the air the song accompanies us The clear pink sky makes The departure be in peace It's my way of saying goodbye This is how I say goodbye"
K, hear me out: what if Rom the vacuous spider is Yharnam? Her main theme is giving birth to many spiderlings, so could it be a hint, that this queen was mb a lady of the night, like Arianna? Or somewhat of an unfaithful woman, who though, that she can give birth to many children, even from the Great one? Also Rom is covered in white dainty flowers from behind, like a bride's veil. And also we see Yharnam appear, when we kill Rom, so yeah, that's just my comment theory
Nope. They have nothing in common. Rom was a human who was turned into a Great One by Kos and was used by the Church to hide their rituals and the Red Moon.
@@user-hs9jx6wj9d it's kind of difficult to guess. Kos arrived around the time of The Old Hunters, but Yharnam was found in the Pthumeru chalices wich kind of have a medieval look to theme, so I think she is older than Rom. But given that we can also find Rom in Lower Pthumeru, it is not clear wether Kos transformed the spider before the Fishing Hamlet events.
It's an open question; by the time we meet her, she's a ghost. Our boss battle is not a fight with her present self; she's been dead. For a while, now. What Mensis likely did we secure her and Mergo's remains, which are explicitly stated to still hold her consciousness, in her case. The item wouldn't need to make that distinction if we are to believe Yharnam is actually alive ingame at any point.
In premodern Japan people believed that dying in childbirth was a sin. Soul of such a woman would end tortured by demons, shackled and forced to drink blood. Go check the BB Wiki (second one, not the Fextralife), then search for Original Japanese Item Index and click Lore Translation Guide.

Does she actually stab her hand in the fight for one of her attack animations. That fight is so cheap with that stupid baby crying making you freeze up no matter what you do. I beat her first try but it was so annoying.
