I would recommend upgraded engine mounts as well, because that will also affect how the shifter feels. Excess engine movement contributes to the rubbery, sloppy feeling of the stock shifter, especially under hard acceleration. The billet base bushings you installed may actually make some things a little worse since all of those movements transfer to the shifter instead of being damped by the soft stock rubber bushings. If you want to dive deeper, the Dieselgeek Sigma 6 is an amazing short shifter and will really kick it up to the next level.

Thank you so much for the advice! I currently have a Powerflex upper engine mount insert and ECS dogbone insert. So there's SOME stiffening going on. Definitely going to be upgrading in the future. And how does that Dieselgeek short shifter compare to the DAP "Holy Shift" shifter? Seen very good reviews for both.

@@TheParkingLotMechanic The "Holy Shift!" looks almost identical in design to the older style Sigma 6 from Dieselgeek, however I've never used that particular one before so I don't want to assume it is exactly the same. I have the Dieselgeek old style on my MK5 and the new style on my MK6 and they both feel solid and mechanical like a rifle bolt. I love the engagement. The Sigma uses the stock side-to-side shifter cable end but uses a delrin bushing insert whereas the old style replaced both cable ends with billet spherical ends like the DAP version. The side-to-side doesn't flex as much or have as much stress so the stock end is fine. The new style also uses a nut bar which makes install a gazillion times easier.

After reading the Dieselgeek's description on their short shifter, I might have to go that route. Seems like they really care about their product more than just performance. The fact they updated parts for easier install and adjustment sold me almost instantly.
