Not to be a jerk, but The Cars didn’t obtain the sound you hear in this song until ’84 (you can maybe make an argument for ’82)...definitely not ’79. Listen to Candy-O to really be thrilled. Peace.
Love the latest Cars stuff!! It's sounds like their first couple of albums with the real spacy sounding keyboards. I hope they stay together and keep making great music!
Just read the lyrics. Fitting and lasting remarks on cell phone/internet/digital tech dependencies. If Marshall McLuhan were alive, what would he say? For this Gen-Xer, rock-on. Kids, I gotta say it...people get old and philosophical. Walking-n-talking, mile after mile, for over a half a century... we recognize/observe more than a few patterns. So, do things that make you feel genuine, true, and cool. "Life is too short to not be cool." - Grandpa "Remember my dear, I can smell a lie like a fart in a car." - Mark Hunter
Wow, heard this but wasn't told the band name. I told the people I was with that this sounds as good as something the Cars did in the eighties....duh, should have known something this good had to come from the Cars!
The only thing that I would have to say, which isn't a negative thing because I love ALL The Cars music is that this happened AFTER Ben's passing. I realize that his bass guitars were used in this production. A great album nonetheless.
This may not be the best Cars record, but it is probably the most consistent set of songs they've put together since the debut. And as for sounding thin, I disagree. Jacknife Lee does a GREAT job of pulling out the band's glam and bubblegum pop sensibilites while making an album that is both timely and timeless. It's really a stunning achivement that will no doubt be overlooked by radio and most of the media. Fuck 'em.
@JesusFreakJene yeah they certainly aren't because they get played on the Classic Rock Station in New York over here, even when WNEW used to do classic rock they played the CARS next to Kiss , the Doors, Led Zeppelin and Motley Crue. That's who they belong with. The CARS are going into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame soon!
Two years to this very day "Move Like This" was released. The tour was way to brief, and we have heard next to nothing about "The Cars"since then. If we have to wait another 22 years for the next album, I will wait. Their music is is well worth the wait, I will just listen to their existing library till then.
Sad Song was the only one I heard get some play...They were hoping this one was going to be the breakout song from the album, but it got even less play...
@JesusFreakJene Yes i think it is too. It all makes sense, Blue tip , sad song, the whole album maybe in reference to Benjamin Orr. And the album cover is unlike all the rest of their albums too.
Huge cars fan from back when they were new and I never even knew this existed!!!!! I want my MTV back and magazines!!! How the hell can I find out what's going on these days? This got zero radio play, how was I to know??? Am I the only older Gen Xer lost today?
Your first mistake is relying on the radio to drive your music listening... thats absurd. Theres something called the internet... itll open a new world to you. Quit relying on archaic conglomerates to dictate to you what music will be in your life.
Ok folks, yes Ben is greatly missed but the Cars ARE and always has been Ric Ocasek's baby, he has wrote EVERY single Cars song minus the few Greg Hawks cowrote. Ric is the heartbeat of the group, as long as he is alive and willing to continue they will, just look at the Todd Rundgren version, meh.......Good stuff here!
The only way to describe CARS music is that Its CARS music....They had a unique sound, They made it their own......They Were Innovators....Creative Genuiess's From the way that Elliott played his guitar to the way that Greg Hawkes inserted Interesting Keyboard sounds without it sounding like " Keyboard" Music....To Rick's Quirky and vague Lyrics and vocal Intonations and Rythym parts and songwriting and arrangements ....To Bens Vocal and Bass talents ....to The drummer incorporating TIGHT drums .....And very inventive style and one of the first to incorporate Electronic drum sounds that didnt sound Cheezy....Together they forged a sound that others tried to emulate but could never duplicate.......Did They pull from different musical influences and styles Of course they did...ALL bands Do that.....or at least other Great bands TRY to do that....They blended elements of Rock ..."DISCO"...New york Underground...punk.....And each one could play their Instruments incredibly well Very talented musicians in their own rights.....as they say them boys had Chops....But together they formed The CARS and we all love them or we wouldnt be here....The production quality was also a factor.....The mixes were spot on....And there was no FILLER Every song on every album is listenable....And Timeless...Still Sounds fresh Unlike some other BOSTON bands....LOL.Some songs better than others but Every song explored a new direction, was something we've never heard before and creative.....and the solos were well thought out.....They didn't try to play over each other ....They play as a group .....Each one was in the pocket and the instruments stood out on their own....They played to suit the song rather than play to be like " Look at me, I'm The star of the band" I think they realized what each guy brought to the table and genuinely LOVE each other as brothers they had musical chemistry with each other....No Egos....Every element was a part of the song and they seemed like normal everyday guys....And Even though Ben Was Incredibly handsome None of them tried to intentionally put on a rock star persona...Maybe Rick a lil but I think that was more or less a video image the record company wanted them to have...Its called Marketing and they definitely had ambitions and a Drive to be successful ...and when MTV came along they realized what a great marketing tool that could be for them...Little was written about their personal lives that i know of...I dont think they publically displayed their wealth which we all know they prob made a shit ton of money.....Im sure the each had a few CARS and other toys at their disposal....There first album a lone probally made them financially comfortable .Other than dating and or marrying models....They lived pretty normal private lives outside of the music spotlight. Not even sure if they made Mag covers like Rolling Stone?? Im sure they indulged in some Rock star Luxuries but who Wouldn't.....I've watched interviews suggesting that they were all rather introverted and shy.....Very Grounded and down to Earth U never heard of any drug use or bad press.....RIP Benjamin.....So sad that he passed away ...Not of a drug overdose .....but from pancreatic cancer.....They seem like good guys....And They rocked it live.....Got a chance to see them on their Heartbreak City Tour.....
@jrock2264 you don't know what your talking about, Lets go does not sound like a disco song, and no different then the others. If anything it destroyed disco, listen to the guitar rock in the back ground, the other thing you hear is keyboards.
@JesusFreakJene Actually, I was around in the 70's. I didn't say they were disco, I said Let's Go sounds like a disco song. I came out at the end of the disco period and has a disco sound to it. It's a crappy song. It's not like the rest of their songs.
@THECARS7879 Listen, Let's Go had disco overtones...it was not like the rest of their music. Was it a "disco' song? Maybe not, but it was influenced by the disco sound. Sorry, it's just not one of their better tunes. And virtually everybody will agree that thier first album was thier best.
@J0LEIGH Good, I hope it's cool, then maybe all the kids will stop buying all this new shitmusic that the record companies are putting out now, and we'll get some new good stuff instead!
Don't want to rag on the Cars but their first album was their best, hands down. They kind of went down hill after that. I mean, they were still good, but they never topped their first. And "Let's Go" is a terrible disco song...never liked it.
