Yip caution should not hamper youthful enthusiasm, but silence on basic safety would also be a bad thing. I recall commenting on a channel called Untie the lines, stating that a solar powered electric motor at least needed a gasoline tender back up. Well they did not listen. 3 months later, the coast guard had to rescue them.

They are on an intercoastal Adventure, a big tall mast would be a setback, access under bridges exploring other areas limitations waiting on bridges that can open so many things but having a couple 10 ft 4 inch PVC poles that can quickly be configured into a simple gaffrig wood allow the dynamic abilities of Both Worlds and convenient ability to raise and lower that combined with some good solar and batteries and a couple big trolling motors like Anthony had the water shark would go a long ways, we borrowed Anthony water shark for a couple weeks and we're able to motor back and forth to the same Mirena out here in the channel as transportation we got a Max of 3.6 knots out of that motor that's pretty good it would push that sailboat along just fine that's a thought if anybody was up to donating them a couple of the saltwater version of the water sharks, we did some testing on the 100 amp hour batteries around the marina and actually move several large 40 ft + Cruisers around to the launch in the breeze with that and the Livingston so it has the thrust it's just not made for speed but that with the solar could run all day in the sun easily and have enough to charge up for their other conveniences fans small water maker Refrigeration and lights

I don't know why I am addicted to watching your adventure. Maybe it is because you are both crazy as hell, and don't know what you are doing, and yet that doesn't stop you. You just do it! You two are awesome! Fortune favors the bold, but be careful! It makes me nervous just watching you guys. Since you don't have a sail, maybe get a backup motor, like a trolling motor? or a dinghy with a little motor, or even a kayak. Think redundancy and backup systems for all the things you have no idea will happen. Know how to get in touch with the Coast Guard.

You should have gotten some big channel lock pliers for the oil filter. Oil filter wrenches only do one job while channel locks would be useful for hundreds of different jobs. Makes no sense to give a mast away, but hey, it's your boat. If you decide to remast it later that decision will probably cost you around $3500 plus to get a new mast sails and rigging. going to Florida while hanging off the back of the boat to work the outboard is going to be a problem... you can extend that tiller handle using heavy PVC pipe get a piece that will fit over the handle and split it lengthwise so that you can clamp it tight, then glue the next smaller size that will fit inside of the first piece. Cut the second piece to size for length. You may need to go down another size at the end so that you can glue a motorcycle grip to the end. If it were me I would get a bit more fancy so that I could put a few bends into the extension and still work the throttle, but the straight PVC will work.

For the life of me I cannot understand why you did not try and get a decent rudder system in place. Has to be the most uncomfortable way I have ever seen someone try and steer a boat.... for hours and hours. Oh did I mention the minimal maneuverability? 😳 I would have suggested checking the impeller too but no time for that....git goin’. Have fun and be safe.....

1:18 Well said that man! ....wait a minute, you gave your mast away??? I've been desperately trying to keep my comments and support really positive but come on guys... ffs... not only did you pay $5500 more than the boat was worth (it looked prepped to be scuttled) but I'm pretty sure giving the mast away was a costly decision... probably getting on as much as the boat cost. Also I've noticed those "smart" battery chargers are only any good if your battery is good - If your battery is a little dodgy you need an old style basic "dumb" charger and it'll usually take a charge - but I'd only use that battery for things like internal LED lights and to top up the charge on your phone / radio *whispers* that you still aint got!
@c4sken
@c4sken 4 года назад
Well said, I've wanted to be positive but there's a big difference in being optimistic and realistic. You guys are way out of your league in this trainwreck of a boat. You're half-assed repairs are comical but cringeworthy. Below the water line will not be fixed by bottom paint. The boat has potential but not at a starting cost of 5500. Hope you guy really learn from this without getting physically hurt. Pay for the top level Towing membership since you'll need it. Good luck, I'll look for you on the ICW in Soflo.

The hull needs serious fiberglass patching, it should have been cut out, sanded down. and the cracked and split fiberglass removed, and built up completely, then sanded and coated again. These repairs you have done will be undone in three weeks or less. Ditching the mast on a sailboat ???? More than sails attach to a mast. things like weather instruments, radio antennas and navigation lights.
@TheRattyBiker
@TheRattyBiker 4 года назад
They actually paid 6k for it fully stripped out, no hatches, rudders and a clattering old outboard ....then wondered why the guy jumped off the back of it. I've been trying for weeks to stay positive for them and I believe for the most part that criticism should only be given constructively but with every upload I worry more, I really admire the enthusiasm these guys have, which, kind of makes it worse as I really don't want to see them fail but.... I dunno, we'll just have to hope for the best and see how it unfolds.

The only time there was any reference to the mast was when the mast was being picked up. They said 'the mast is going to a good home'... Was there a reference to it being stored in a previous video? If so, which one and the time reference please... As it sounds like they just gave it away from the current video. * - UPDATE: If you watch the next video in this series 'We Motor The CATAMARAN To SALT PONDS MARINA - Hook-Up Solar Panel - Install Trampoline - 19' he does actually say 'Well here we are at Salt Ponds marina, were doing some judging here, oh, and this is also where we are storing our mast for whenever we want to come and pick it up, we didnt sell it'.... Man screw you people , haven't you ever taken a chance in life . that's what they're doing, they're taking a chance they're going forward with it and I praise them for that .. I've done it my whole life I jumped on my bike and went to Wisconsin for no reason at all. I've got on my motorcycle and went to New York... I done the same thing all over the United States, I rode my motorcycle to places on the map where the dime fell ..... I would flip a dime wherever it fell that's where I would go .... I think it's great that they're willing to take the chance . they will have a good life and a lot of stories to tell ... they already told you in the beginning if you watch the videos that they didn't take the chance to hit open water in the sea .. they took the back canals and rivers so they weren't in Open Water. God people live a little, and for god sakes quit trying to make these people think they are going to die .. they do need to buy an extra motor and put it on the boat just in case that one dies ... and I wouldn't never have taken the mask off either, that sale is your lifeline if you're in the ocean... but maybe they never have any intentions of hitting the wide open ocean . we'll just have to wait and see . I don't think they're that stupid they seem to be pretty intelligent. either way they're enjoying life, stop put putting them down for it just because you're too scared to go for it...

All you've done is given that old engine an oil change it at least should have had a proper service the boat has had a bit of Bondo and paint . I'm not a religious man at all but I'm praying that you get through this unharmed without putting anyone else in danger having to come to your rescue.

To many people spend there whole lives preparing for the "big adventure" that never comes. They are going down the ICW. Not crossing the Atlantic. You're rarely more than a few yards from shore. Another aspect is that there is a lot to be said for simplicity. Even simple systems are unnecessary on the icw. And yes I have been down the icw.

@@gillejohn9 I'm not saying dont ever go on an adventure what I'm saying is do things right that engine most people would scrap never mind being able to reach a bank what if it got stuck on and smashed into another boat or it cut out when another boat was heading towards them boats dont stop on a dime or turn as quickly as a car , it's fine risking your own life but most of us think about other peoples safety . Instead of a couple of days applying paint and bodging up holes take some time to do things properly if not for your own sake do it for for everyones sake

There are inherent dangers in everything a person does. Driving to the grocery store has its dangers. Yet millions of people do it everyday. Do we condemn the driver for injuries to rescue services(assuming drugs and alcohol aren't involved) after an accident? Of course we don't. They and everyone else who got out of the planning stage and are out enjoying there own adventure are not idiot's. I strongly disagree with that comment. It's your prerogative to not leave your living room. Don't condemn somebody who does.

If its a sailboat, why give away the mast. Even if you don't use it, consider that your boat is rare, someone might want to sail your boat some day. Keeping the mast seems like the right choice. Even if not rigged. If you are gonna be on the water alot. please take the time for the both of you to learn navigation and safety at sea, EPIRB, VHF setup and use, and required lights and emergency equipment. Its not a bumper car or a toy dinghy. And please dont rely on Google.

They are venturing along and intercoastal Canal which is nothing more than an overgrown pond with title running water and invest a narrow channel acrossed it in many spots oh, no big thread of getting sucked out to sea are washed up on the Shoals however I think now that they have a radio at least they can Yelp for help since they'll be in such a short distance of other traffic, but I hear your plight about water rations and the essentials, being on that cat without an aluminum Master some metal object bypassing lightning potential between a higher point and down to the water they now literally become the lightning rods if they are Outdoors during a thunderstorm, hobbling and the cabin won't provide much more than Shelter From the pelting hail rain and when elements but they have the heart and the adventure so therefore they go forward and will learn many things along their way, as we wish them well I'm not seeing them head out of here just recently and down out the chute of this Bay only relying on that small outboard into the larger Bay of the Chesapeake was a little nerve-wracking but they successfully made it with a little guidance from Anthony around the corner and down to Salt Pond safely now they will shoot down the intercoastal in the safety a protective barriers and shorelines and begin an inland Waterway Adventure, I'm surprised they didn't grab a couple decent size solar cells and batteries since I have all that flat surface and maybe a couple 10 ft 4 in PVC sections of pipe and rig up a very simple gaffrig you an audible decent used car for old piece of sale to really help them along the way and yes with no tillers it will be interesting at times but they could really make so much Headway quietly and save field but they'll probably figure out things as they go they have the spirit of Adventure so we wish them well how to hear from them along their Journey as we check in places on our adventure South oh, who knows maybe we'll see them down below the cape find the last Crossroads to our paths at possibility yet remains but depends on how fast they skirt the inner canal and how aggressive they are at their Adventure oh, mostly be safe keep an eye to the sky for the weather and hopefully they make some sort of simple Warframe inside the main bulkhead of the cabin and guy that down to a low point with some sort of grounding plate even if it's a few bolts on a old piece of brass outside the bottom of one of the cat hull creating a bypass point to something metallic that sticks up awfully at least 6 to 8 in above the roof of the cabin structure and hopefully bypass the discharge around them safely down to the water and that grounding plate, that would be a wise decision plenty weather ahead big plastic floating Target and big Open Water and thunderheads really increases statistical odds, at least one could sit confidently inside know if there was a big bang you wouldn't be the one in the bug zapper the Faraday would take it around to the water safely

Man I would have taken the time to get a larger used outboard and controls rigged up on that boat. You probably could have even taken the 50hp off the houseboat and used that or traded it. Just a simple cable with a lever would be better than what you got. Ya'll had a hell of a time seeing where you were going using that setup. You could have also taken the 15hp and bought a dingy and put it on that

Always start your sander with it resting on your work piece. Don't start it in the air then bring it to the work piece. Less chance of gouging.

Psychosis Media Search for “silent yachts” here on YT. Also all circumnavigatiors have solar panels with a (sometimes huge) batterie pack. So what’s wrong with electric and water?
@0PsychosisMedia0
@0PsychosisMedia0 4 года назад
They are not reliable, easy to corrode, they are not reliable!!!!, the batteries are just as heavy as a diesel, charging the batteries is not reliable, Working on then/fixing them usually means you need to replace them after a year or two, Depending on conditions battery drainage is a nightmare. Battery prices are so high then you have to replace them after a year or 2 You cannot replace a tried and true diesel engine. The output of constant power and reliability and onboard fixes for diesel are better than electric. I watch and researched electric motors for boats, they just do not work and is not worth the hassle or price.
