i totally agree, it is the small, subtle oddities that we imagine we might see in real life that is terrifying. pitch black with only matches--someone clapping right next to your ear. quick glimpses of what you thought was a person in the room but aren't sure. that is what makes this movie creepy. and again, i agree that the windy bedsheet scene that flies to the window where the woman appears, is very well done--that, and the hanging woman's legs in the basement that slowly turn towards Lorraine.

9:28 #truestory I have a traumatizing childhood memory of something peering at me from the darkness like these sisters in this scene. I can't remember the exact age maybe I was 5. I was spending a night at my grandma's and I was in bed drifting off to sleep. Then my eyes opened because I felt like I was being watched. It was a small room, so the closet was probably several feet from the foot of the bed. Well I became fixated on the darkness inside the closet. Whatever was in the room was there. It's like I knew, I just knew, there was a pair of eyes somewhere inside the closet. I was frozen and the tension was real and it kept building and building. I couldn't move. I couldn't get up and run. I couldn't yell. Believe me when I tell you I was paralyzed. So I just started to cry and then slowly my voice got louder and louder until I was screaming and my grandma ran into the room. I never told her why I was crying. To be honest it's like I was too traumatized to vocalize what I just experienced. If I was an older child and had just watched some horror movie that would explain the experience, but at that age, my innocent little mind was filled with Sesame Street and Saturday morning cartoons.

This was the beginning of the best reaction series ever

Great review In real life it was a ragady Ann doll her mother found at a garage sale. They knew the owner who lived there Mr kennyon they visited the house a couple of times before purchase, he warned the dad to leave the lights on at night never said why. They knew the house had a basement and there was no music box Mrs Warren took the mothers book without permission, she had researched the entire history of the house the land and the Harrisville Mrs Warren believed that was part of the problem. Also the patrons believed that Mrs. Arnold was behind the abuse the mother endured from all their research.The was no possession but they did a sayonce the mom was thrown across the room and they thought she was dead. They had to live in that house for 7 more years after the Warren's left. House of darkness house of light is the true story written by Andrea Perron three volumes highly recommend it

It’s important to remember the Perron family always said when they moved in, it was jsut a family moving into a house , we watch the movie knowing it’s a paranormal horror but this is jsut a normal family but things started seemingly friendly and escalated fast.

I can confirm as an introvert and eldest child of 5 (G,G,B,B,B) it was truly a horror movie growing up, although at least I could throw the smallest one at any demons/ghosts if I had to 🤣😂 (I'm joking of course, it wasn't that bad. It was quite nice when we all got along.) 5 girls in a row would be a horror movie though. I had 1 sister and she caused enough drama by herself. My nan had 4 girls in a row, that's just too much drama.

First thing you need to know is the real Annabelle doll is actually a child sized rageddy Anne doll and looks nothing like that also the doll has nothing to do with the family exept that it's connected to the Warrens because they delt with both cases. Yes it's based on a true story because the Warrens were in fact real people trying to help others free of charge. The real Conjuring story is so much more scary then the movie was allowd to show so they actually toned it down on this one and the Warrens had nothing to do with helping the family they actually got kicked out by the husband eventually for doing something that almost got his wife killed plus Beth Shiva had nothing to do with the house just general knowlage. I consider this one of James Wan's best movies other than the Insidious movies which if you haven't seen you should check out. This movie is one of the rare ones that actually scared me when seeing it in the theaters and stayed with me for a while after that. The use of old fasioned scares was so effective here and the fact that you don't see the thing you are meant to be scared of until half way through makes it all the more creepy.
