The Conning and Drowning Lori Isenberg

That Chapter

Lori and Larry Isenberg were living the good life in Coeur d'Alene, until an accident led Larry Isenberg to the bottom of the lake. They were out in the boat, when he suddenly went over, and they wouldn't find him for almost a month. Was it an accident? Well, Lori would soon be arrested, but for a completely different reason, but perhaps the two were linked in ways no one could have seen.

@MarkoLomovic

I don't think it falls apart because there is very little motive to murder him. She already stole and gave her children the money, and if you change the will and then kill him then that will is not going to pan out because you don't want everyone to look into it. Events of getting fired and realising that she is going to get arrested aligns more with suicide then murder. So we have weak motive, so it is possible that truth is somewhere in between. Like for example she planned to kill him and her self but she chickned. On the other had if she was so willing to die why she didn't do it when situation went from bad(5 years in prison and fucked up relationships) to worse(life in prison). It just feels like we are missing whole story here.

@@MarkoLomovic Somebody who cares so little for other people that she was willing to steal a massive amount of money from their relief funds probably cares more about herself than she cared about her family, too. No one that selfish is going to take their own life...... they think they can find a way out of their troubles. If she was going to kill herself, she would have drank the Benadryl BEFORE she took a nap. The will-changing maneuver was just one more way for her to steal, which she seemed adept at doing.

It'll never cease to shock me how people can be together for so long, in this case almost 2 decades, and the one partner might as well be a stranger to the other because even after all this time, her husband never really knew her or what she was capable of. I'm sure he never would've thought she could do this to him, his kids, or the people she signed on to help. It's just sad. I feel so bad for all her victims.

Glad he grew into his skin and let go of feeling the need to be somber in delivery, without giving up his respect for victims, etc. That's the most notable change. Edit: Many misinterpret the gallows humor and sarcasm as disrespect for the victims and subject matter, couldn't be further from reality. People that think this, from my exp talking to them, usually don't watch full videos, and ones that do seem to want to hate any hint of humor to alleviate the weight of the subject matter. Blows my mind, as it's the main reason he's my #1 for general True Crime coverage.

In fact it bothered the first time I heard it and ever since. He's saying "I love you" to 1.5 million people who would have to MEET him just to move up from "unknown individual" to qualify as a stranger. To him I'm a number. In no way am I a human to him. I might not even be human. Maybe I'm a bot. How could he "love" me-- he's never met me! He doesn't know I exist. If I die tonight he'd never know-- or care. Is he Jesus, extolling his love for all mankind? Or is it just a phrase with no meaning, impact or consequence? Because it has no meaning, impact or consequence. Mike gives me the impression of being a genuine guy. But that is the most disingenuous thing I've ever heard anyone say, and a sad cheapening of the power of the phrase "I love you" said with genuine emotion to an actual human. I find it sad.

What makes this channel kind of perfect is the fact that Mike is just…imperfect? That’s a praise, not a criticism. I’ll elaborate. What I mean by imperfect is, it seems that Mike has a loosely written script that he goes by; talking points, even. But his delivery is not always perfect. A word gets stumbled over here and there. His reaction to certain details of the story seems to be real world, rather than one that’s been predetermined. Like he’s almost just shooting from the hip as he tells the story. Those little idiosyncrasies kept in, not edited over, are what keep bringing me back. Like, there are pauses after a sentence while he searches for the right word to use. I love the loose edges. It doesn’t have to be so clean cut. His personality is conveyed through the storytelling. Which, in turn, gives the channel personality. So again, nothing but praise. Edit: Tree

Her initial story of how he went to look at the engine, got a horrible look on his face, and he went over the side of the boat was 100% the truth. hey mike, i love true crime. i have an immense fascination in trying to understand all the paths in life us humans can take both due to our free will and due to being products of our environment and circumstances. i'm always trying to put myself in others shoes and imagine what lead them to making certain choices and i find it to create some of the most raw feelings within myself- i assume because it's a way to deeper my connection to humans who have lived the millions of types of lives i'll never live, and to be able to empathize better with actions i personally haven't taken. true crime is so interesting to me due to this. i've always been deeply intrigued in diving into these cases and discovering where it all goes wrong for these people's lives. the whole nurture/nature argument. all this being said i struggle with a lot of mental health issues... my depression has taken so many years of my life from me that i genuinely think that by my late twenties i've easily spent 70% of my life in bed lol. ANYWAYS, I say all this because with all the true crime I watch, I've found your channel is one of the few that uplifts me simultaneously. normally I have to detach after awhile because it makes me feel numb. humans can do so many cruel, awful, disgusting things and seeing all the innocent lives that are needlessly taken is extremely overwhelming when consumed consistently. I've also recently left a very abusive relationship which furthers that fear of people being horrible. So, anyways, you do an amazing job at juxtaposing the feelings of despair these stories cause with feelings of love and care from yourself. after watching other channels i normally feel sad and want to log off, and they oftentimes end up making cycles of my depression feel worse, but you somehow have stayed relentlessly refreshing and I can enjoy your content, mourn for the victims, and learn about the crimes taking place no matter my current state of being. I know I overexplained and over shared, I'm not very good at articulating how I feel in few words... I never feel like I can find the right words to convey things in the gravity I wish to... unless I use ALL the words, haha. So that's all. I just wanted to leave a message wishing you well here alongside my own little perspective as to how your content works so well :) keep being you! hope you're enjoying yourself and never feel too overworked. always take care of yourself first before anything!

Have you read Free Will by Sam Harris? He argues that free will is an illusion. It’s only 96 pages but I’d say you’d enjoy it.

I am so glad you said all this because I feel the same way! I am always so intrigued by why people are the way they are, specifically with crime involved. you explained it way better than i ever could!

“Turfed out on her hole” - another Irish gem. You should do an episode using just Irish slang and colloquialisms and put on a thick accent, as well. I would love to decipher that.

Mike is so funny! Love the way he tells the story. He’s the best. You know you’re good when other RU-vidrs try to imitate you and fail miserably.💕 Keep ‘em coming, Mike.

This needs to be the tag line on some Mike-merch. "Where true crime feels like a warm hug." It's so true though. I'm always smiling at his witty delivery.

With the exception of children being harmed or murdered. I will actually pass on them as much as I hate to miss an episode. I just can't stomach it.
