The Craziest Marathon I've Ever Seen || The 2022 Valencia Marathon 

I just came home from this Valencia Marathon. Official time 4h 03' 50". Atmosphere, weather, public... Everything was just perfect

To clarify, Gidey’s coach said she could run 2:10 in the future, not for Valencia. Her coach predicted a 2:13-2:15 for Valencia. But she missed that mark a bit, but not too surprising considering it’s her first race and the marathon is extremely difficult. Nothing is a certainty

Kelvin Kiptum's performance today is just............ too good to be truth..? I mean, debut winning setting the 3rd fastest time of all time? really? Eliud & Bekele spent almost 10 years building up the engine to set their records, while this new kid just comes out of nowhere with such mind bending performance? it is just too much of a fairy tale TBH

from what I've heard gidey's coach didn't say she could break 2:10 in this race, just that it wasn't impossible in the future. he said that this race she would most likely be between 2:13:30 and 2:15:00

Letesenbet Gidey has such a beautiful stride, very smooth, rhythmic and clean.

We are used to such surprises from East Africa. When it appears that a veteran is getting old, someone comes with a crazy debut, and another one is unimaginably training hard in the slopes of Ethiopian Highlands in Ethiopia, In the Rift Valley of Kenya, or in the Slopes of Mt. Elgon in Kenya and Uganda. Go my Africa go... congrats Gidey, and congrats Kiptum.

Watched some of the marathon live and saw gidey really struggling in the late late stages of her run. Loved the recap, very exiting to see all the story lines retold

If the pacers had stayed with Amane Beriso, she would have been seriously close to the current world record. She ran the last 20 minutes mostly alone. I actually don't like that the pacers stayed with Gidey, although that was probably what they were told to do. Pacers should go with the fastest athlete on that day in my opinion.

Sun and Mediterranean. A Wonder to live. 800,000 inhabitants. Gidey runs like a machine - same form, same stride, same cadence for 15k continuous kilometres (15:47 for each of the 5k splits between 15k and 30k). Insane!

Beriso's Mexico City marathon = 2:13:55 (Tinman altitude calculator) and 2:16:15 (Jack Daniel's calculator). We should have expected this time! Most winners of the Mexico City marathon are in the 2:35 - 2:40 range, despite being full of 2:20-2:28 runners attempting it.

Don't really know why people think he must be dopping....he has the body and lungs...and likely had been incorporating training strategies that were only made available in the last decade....whereas the other guys had bring those strategies to their system later in their years

At a buffet, I personally sneak corn into the buffet so others can enjoy them. I hide 6 boiled corn ears in my jacket pockets. It is a joy for me to see other patrons of the establishment eat my corn thinking they were part of the buffet

I will not surprise if Kiptum will have a problems with WADA . Last year Julien Wonders almost died on his marathon debut in Paris. But here 23 year old runner just do impossible

IDK and I hate to bring it up, but some guy no one ever really heard of running a sub 2:01 marathon in his first attempt and at only 23..................I watched track in the 70's and 80's and I remember the athletes from what was then called the Easter Bloc nations, Poland, East Germany, Russia, etc., and those athletes doing crazy time, like the women's 400M which is still the record of Tatyana Kazankina running what was then a crazy time for 1500m of 3:52.47 which stayed the record for 13 years until another suspicious athlete broke it in 1993, and stayed the record until it was legitimately broken in 2015. Sebastian Coe said of Kenya, they have a long journey to restore trust after the many, many, many drug cheats. To me, this feels like the 70's and 80's again except Kenya has replaced those eastern bloc nations. I hope I'm wrong but it feels the same to me as someone who lived through that era!

kiptum must get tested. anyone who breaks world records or achives insane performances out of nowhere should be tested i think. new shoes are getting faster and efficient but still for 23yo. running that fast for FIRST marathon is just insane and creates some thoughts. he might be just super talented and hardworker who knows. would be nice still to be 100 sure.

Don't suspect the runners because of the crazy fast times. The Valencia course must be remeasured to see if it is indeed exact marathon distance . Or maybe Kipchoge inspired everybody that they can break 2 minutes.
