The strangling thing has 2 things she didn't mention. Hibbert mentions broken tracheal bones that homer blamed on a tight bow tie and that in homerland (or one of the episodes where homer becomes calm) Bart mentions he can finally sing because of the aforementioned calm and non-strangling homer

Homer killing Edna is technically non canon as it happened in a Future Timeline episode which were officially said to not be considered as canon. She was killed off only because of Marcia Wallace’s Death much like Lionel Hutz and Troy McClure being killed off because of Phil Hartman’s death.

Idk if it’s canon or not but in the simpsons tapped out game, he destroyed Springfield at the start of the game because he ignored the warnings that were going of before the nuclear plant exploded

Personally I think one of the worst things homer ever did was letting manipulated margin being with him she didn’t want to even be there she was ready to leave and he twisted it so that she fell back end with him I honestly think he might’ve baby tractor I know that’s some thing we normally hear women doing to men but men can do it to women as well and I think homer is calculated manipulative and extremely abusive

Jesus christ I never realised how dark Homers character truly is

I think this just further highlights how sad it is that Homer evolved into a brainless, relatively charmless slob in later seasons. In earlier years Homer did plenty of bad things, but he also had something of a conscience and definitely had heart.

This is more of an honorable mention. Advocating for deportation. Homer advocated for the law to deportation unregistered immigrants. Affecting Apu, Moe, and groundskeeper Willie. While he did change his mind about immigrants, Willie (if I remember right) was still deported.

One thing that’s always made me especially hate homer is the effect his antics has on his children. We see Bart, not only physically abused, but emotionally and verbally too. Homer strangles him, demeans him, and shows no real love to the kid. Reminder: Bart is *ten*, these are extremely important years in his life, and this trauma will go on to affect him for a long, long time. We see some of this trauma in the Simpsons Movie with Bart seeing what it would be like to have a real father with Flanders. We see him flinch as Flanders pats him on the back only to find it a completely foreign feeling and ask again for Flanders to show him that minimal praise. Homer has definitely got problems with his entire family, but he has, and will, effect Bart the most. And that is why I have an extremely difficult time liking him.

Two things. One, I when I watched the series I personally immediately realized what was wrong with these actions (mainly the strangling) and as a result, I’ve always had the unpopular opinion of (call me Frank Grimes) disliking him. Two, there’s something I’ve especially disliked about the strangling gag: they can’t pick a lane between it being serious or pure slapstick. As you pointed out, some days it shows Bart to be badly affected by it. Other episodes, Bart isn’t even slightly affected by it and the abuse is strictly laughable.

Homer was right though about Football in the Groin though, he was the only one who saw it for the masterpiece it was

His day dreaming is pretty dark too I always remember that dream he had where he takes joy in killing grampa his own father that seemed so out of place for him and something he would never do but then again he joked about how he put abe in a home after three weeks when his own father gave him a place to live. He also dreamed of ned flanders in a burning building after ned saved his ass from his own house fire.

As a kid I loved that car he designed for his brother. I never understood why nobody was happy with it😂

I think a good spin on a "dark side" video would be a video on the times Bart's pranks went too far they tend to fall more into the dark pile in later seasons.

One thing from the car that Homer made did eventually become a standard in modern cars: bigger cup holders. So yeah, that car did have one thing that people would want.

I always saw Homer strangling Bart as commentary on spanking your child. In the world of the simpsons all the violence of real life is turned up to 11 as a way to hold a mirror up to society. Homer strangling Bart is the show saying "well if you're willing to spank your child to punish them, why not strangle them? How are the two things really that different? They're both physical punishments." Idk at least that's how I always saw it.

Homer is a lot like my dad. Well intentioned, and often tries to be the good guy and even capable of being really affectionate but, because of his own past, and underlying conditions undiagnosed like bi-polar, and a definite need for therapy (which was abismal at best in the 80s and expensive) which results in bad decisions, aggressive behavior (that is forgotten as quickly as it happens), and other things but, none of things make him a bad person just someone who's had a rough life, and shouldn't be taken seriously. As a kid the phrase "Blow up, walk away, calm down and forget" was basically the process for my dad and the thing my dad and I bonded over was The Simpsons because my mom and dad always saw my dad in Homer for better or worse. That said. I'm 22 and despite my dads less than perfect nature I do still love him and I wouldn't stand for anyone thinking him a bad person even if he can be an asshole and an idiot he still means well. I feel homer is very similar or emulating the writers own flawed but still loved family.

Homer even tried to frame marge for the auto dialer and stealing cable but flanders isn't that great either he also using fear of god to control them but this video is about homer I guess

It’s true Homer tends to “strangle “ Bart but.. You never see him do that to Lisa or Maggie.( thank goodness he won’t strangle a baby) Not Peter on the other hand. You can see the crap he does to Meg. You gotta wonder both Meg and Bart are the oldest child in respected family . But it’s a weird gag to abuse or crap on the oldest child . After ~30 years of watching this show, I'm finally realizing how evil Homer really is. Omg!

You made some good points but Homer can't be reasonably blamed for tanking his brother's company. Herb trusted his company with someone with no experience. Homer is a scapegoat for mismanagement.

A lot of this is due to the Simpsons running in part on comedic sociopathy and having a tendency to default to it (case in point: the nonchalant tone about parking in the ambulance spot, which I would still put down to negligence). And stuff like the dodgy car design wasn't malicious - Homer genuinely thought people would love it. At the end of the day, Homer really does care about his family and really is trying. Hell, in the movie the way Marge calls him out is by taping over their wedding video because she knows that's the one thing that would sting the worst. As for Homer's hatred of Ned Flanders... It was originally supposed to be because of jealousy. The original conceit of the Flanders family is that they were everything the Simpsons weren't. Polite, morally upstanding, healthy relationships, generally having their shit together... A model family. Even Ned's religious side originates from this - it started as a show of him being sincerely faithful (per the '50s ideals the "model family" idea comes from) vs. just being a Sunday Christian. And so Homer's attitude originally stemmed from resenting Ned for having the model household he could only dream of.

How To Make Bad Extremely Good 1. Invent time machine. 2. Travel to 22nd century. 3. Invent a machine that can change probability to make probability certain that Bad is Extremely Good Forever.

Plz do neddys dark side because in the canon he legitimately killed multiple children, doesn’t like homosexuals to an extent that it’s one of the reasons why Carl (lennys best friend who may or not be gay himself )sang nobody likes Flanders, he’s insulted Lisa’s believes in front of Lisa and homer and possibly has gone on a few occasions to the state prison most times by accident but sometimes for good reasons like the fact he went to las vegas and nearly killed a tiger and the trainers when drunk (ps some may or not be exact but has implications of factors to provide information for the vid in case you decide to.)

Remove the laugh tracks from any show, you've bin laughing at phycotic behaviors, your whole life.

Homer helped Ned with the store, not hurt. Ned was the only person to blame for his store going under. It was Homer that single right handedly saved that store. Ned was the one that FAILED to do any marketing at all and used his money on services that didn't earn him any business.

I'm surprised you didn't mention some of the other fatal car accidents he caused. There are probably more, but these are the ones I remember. Homie the Clown - Homer slams on his brakes so he can see the new billboards, causing a multi-vehicle accident that bursts into flames. The Trouble With Trillions - He runs a red light trying to get to the post office, causing 2 cars at the intersection to crash with one of them getting completely flattened. Pray Anything - He closes his eyes and starts praying while driving causing a truck carrying bacon to crash into an over turned truck carrying fudge.

Aha! Found the incident to top them all! Almost starting a war with the United States, Mexico, Japan, and Antarctica. Homer after enlisting with the naval reserves gets assigned to a nuclear submarine, identity unknown, for his one weekend of work. The captain taking a liking to homer is willing to fast track him up through the ranks. During dinner, the captain places homer in command as the captain gets called to the torpedo room and crawls into a torpedo tube getting trapped with the trash. Upon an unknown sonar contact, in Russian waters, homer orders to fire all torpedoes, firing the captain into an us submarine. Russia taking responsibility and retconning back into the soviet union. A multinational task force is assembled and sent to bring homer in. After roughly 24 hours of pursuit, homer is forced to surface and surrounded by the task force. The commander asked homer what he has to say for him self. He said in four languages it's my first day. Homer j. Simpson Serial number: ************** (military Serial number unknown) Charges: long list of charges Punishment: dishonorable discharge
