Haas always knew it was in for a year to forget in the 2021 F1 season, given that it wrote the year off to focus all of its resources on the new rules for next year. So while its results at the back of the field are not a surprise, the rising tension between its two rookie drivers has become an unwelcome distraction. In this video Edd Straw explains how Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin have fallen out due to various incidents through the year, the latest flashpoints that have taken the rivalry up a notch, and how the team is trying to handle it.

If Giovinazzi doesn't return to Alfa Romeo for the 2022 season, it might be a good idea for Schumacher to join Alfa Romeo. I think the duo of Valterri and Mick could be a good pairing. Better car and a much better teammate. Edit: Mick has been confirmed for Haas 2022 F1 Season as of Sept 23, 2021. Unfortunate but hope he finds a better team in the future.

Two rookies, one being an over-entitled pay-driver and the other being an F2 champion, coming into F1 through a team with a car that was already way down on pace and getting no development; topped off with team management that was already infamously poor before one of their drivers was their chief beneficiary. It's no surprise that they're going to come to blows when they're left fighting for scraps over who can drive a tractor faster. Mick deserves better than this.

Mick isn't the stand out talent his dad was or he wouldn't be unfortunate enough to have Mazepin as a partner. Having said that I'm not sure anybody deserves Mazepin as a partner his massive entitled behaviour would be an issue for any team mate. If Ferrari really wanted to protect their investment in Mick they would indeed be wise to pull a few strings and get him to Alfa where he could actually learn some things from a veteran driver.

He is also a nice kid with a sensible head on his shoulder. - Maz's on and off track demeanour leaves a lot to be desired. Haas seems to have a recent history of issues with team mates…I see the common thread here as leadership - or lack thereof. Watching “Drive to survive”, shows that all teams have short term “team mate friction”, but it is always nipped in the bud…except at Haas, where it just goes on and on until Gene Haas hauls Guenther Steiner over the coals and Steiner passes it on to the drivers… Bottom line is that Steiner is not a proactive leader and just lets all this happen, until it is beyond saving. If I was Gene Haas, I would be searching high and low for another Toto Wolffe, Christian Horner or Zac Brown to replace Steiner, before I even thought about driver lineup…

Both Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher have had their own undoings, I can't blame any of them. I think they are both frustrated by being at the back week in week out. The Haas management is also to blame for a poor car and not being able to manage and control 2 rookies!
@matthewbarber13
@matthewbarber13 2 года назад
They can’t be frustrated being at the back of the grid when they both knew that this was exactly where they were going to be - a 2020 car with a basic modified 2021 floor - as the team has publicly stated that resources and focus would be on the 2022 car. It’s 90% Mazepin and 10% Schumacher- I totally agree that this is a total failure of management in not being able to control 2 rookies, considering 1 is on Ferraris books it would make sense mick would not want to put himself in a situation where Ferrari dump him for being unprofessional- Vettel is also mentoring him and you can see that by his attitude and approach- diplomatic and calm. On the other side of the garage we have Mazepin- I have never in 30 years of watching f1 seen a pay driver with such disrespect for the sport itself let alone his own team (as long as daddy is paying) and such a sense of utter entitlement to a seat he does not deserve. He holds zero respect from any other driver on the grid- that says it all. He does not belong in F1. I’m not a fan of pay drivers but for teams they serve a purpose financially so we have to accept it. In this case this becoming ridiculous, Steiner needs to grow a set and tell Nikita and his daddy thanks but no thanks- there are other drivers they can sign either with experience that’ll help them get up the grid or another pay driver that would show a little bit more respect and also have the added benefit of being a talented driver.

I would generally agree that Mazepin has the majority of the fault for the problems between the two drivers, but I would also say that Mazepin just isn't a talented enough driver to be in F1 to begin with. As far as I know, he has never won anything in the lower categories (in terms of championships), and never was really in contention to do so either. Mazepin also has struggled with just being able to follow instructions for changing modes/settings during some of the races, which seems to indicate that maybe he isn't the smartest driver as well. That's not a great combination, which probably is the reason that he exercises such poor judgement on track. I know Haas needed the money, but they should be working on getting the money into the team another way, so they can dump Mazepin.

Sounds to me like there is a section of team management that clearly favours Mick and only tolerate Nikita because of his sponsorship, judging by the claims that Nikita wasn't informed of the overtaking when Mick asked for permission despite the inter team rules.

I can't really blame Steiner. I get the feeling he's just treading water until Gene Haas sells the team, which will probably wind up in Mazepin Senior's lap.

I am *far* from Mazepin's biggest fan (I actually oppose his place in F1), but I think the blame for all of this lies on Steiner's shoulders. This is the second pairing of incompatible drivers he has had, and as team principal it is his job to keep the drivers in check and try to find ways for them to work together, or at least stop them physically confronting on track. The fact Romain and Kevin bickered for so long followed by this new unhealthy pairing, to me, suggests that Steiner is not capable of running a team and managing drivers.

Mazepin is the driver with a "reputation" in the paddock as a dangerous driver. Move Mick to Alpha please.

You must hate Alpha then because Bottas won't carry 200% for two drivers.

@@p0werfu11 nah, I think Bottas and Shummy could be good for each other, but don't take my comments so seriously. I'm new to F1, learning to love the sport. Sorry if I offended you.

@@xPolluxTroyx it's fine, I just really don't see how it'll help Alpha. Maybe Mick will convince me in the next season.

Who's to blame? Is it the driver who has run in's with most of the grid this year as well as half the F2 grid last year ... Or is it Schumacher? 🤔

A better question is: Who is blameless? Haas management are not sharing essential information with their drivers during races. The stewards are imposing penalties that are insignificant. (Lewis took a 5 second penalty for punting Max out of the race, but went on to win anyway; Valtteri got something similar for causing a crash that badly damaged both Red Bulls; same to Kimi when he wrecked Nikita in pit lane). Heck, I know how Max can secure this year's world championship: let Lewis get ahead and punt him into a wall; repeat as many times as possible within the demerit point limit. It's a bargain price to pay!
