See this is why you watch the cutscenes, they tend to give you important information like that so stuff like what you did doesn't happen. To be fair though I think that would have happened anyway just because these guys seem like the kind of people to do that as stress relief.

How to get the Halo 2 Laso Experience without an Xbox, a TV, Halo 2, or electricity: What you need: a box of toothpicks, a roll of duct tape, a hammer, a pair of needle nose pliers, and a bag of table salt. 1. Find a smooth, flat, dry surface, and flatten a piece of duct tape over it until it is completely stuck. 2. Wrap duct tape over the top of your head like a turban. This is a crucial step that will be important later on. 3. Insert 3 toothpicks under each finger nail, hammering each set of 3 in a horizontal line under each nail. 4. Using your new toothpick nails, pry the duct tape off of the flat surface and peel it off. This will be really difficult, you’ll need to shove your toothpicks under the tape and use leverage to pry it up. If you can’t get it right away, don’t worry. Eventually your blood will seep under the tape and make it come off easier. 5. Once the tape is off the wall, lay on the ground, in push-up position, with your fingers pointing perpendicular to the ground, and do 20 push-ups, only touching the ground with the tips of your toothpick fingers. 6. Use the pliers to remove the toothpicks. Your hands will likely be very wet with blood, so to dry them out, insert them into the bag of salt, which should suck up the moisture. 7. Finally, breathe a sigh of relief that your ordeal is over, only to realize that you still have a duct-tape turban on your head. Unravel the duct tape turban and behold your bald head. 8. The duct tape might have missed a spot, so get your pliers back out and pluck any remaining hair from your head. NOTE: if at any point you made a mistake, did not follow the instructions exactly, hesitated, etc, you must reset to step one and repeat the steps from the start. Curtesy of the Iron Skull. The sniper jackals will have you on your knees praying to everything you hold dear that you are smitten and freed from your wretched and neverending pain. Every death you suffer will feel like the full force of every nightmare you've ever had slowly crushing your already shattered soul. Every voice in your head will be screaming in constant blood-curdling agony. Everything you've ever known will slip away into the dark twisted hallways of high charity, and when the dust settles and the battle is won, you will emerge still a lesser man than you once were, with the only things to show for your indescribeable pain being the dark, endless chasm in your soul, barbarically covered and hidden by the Helioskrill armor. There is no god, no all-powerful deity to give you strength. There is no life after death. There is only a deep, terrible pain and at it's source, a figure with a beam rifle far off in the distance. This game will make you swear to all that is holy that there is no such thing as freedom or victory. The torment wrought by this experience will shake you to your core and you will know a pain beyond comprehension. There is no comparison to the horrid journey that must be fulfilled for the campaign to be beaten. May the lord have mercy on our souls.
